    2. Who iseligible?

    - - Any person who at anytime held an IndianPassport; or he or eitherof his parents or grandparents was born in or

    was permanently residentin India as defined inGovernment of India Act,1935 and other territoriesthat became part of Indiathereafter providedneither was at any time acitizen of Afghanistan,Bhutan, China, Nepal,Pakistan and Sri Lanka;or who is a spouse of acitizen of India or aperson of Indian origin asmentioned above.

    A foreign national, whowas eligible to becomecitizen of India on26.01.1950 or was acitizen of India on or at

    anytime after 26.01.1950or belonged to a territorythat became part of Indiaafter 15.08.1947 andhis/her children andgrand children, providedhis/her country ofcitizenship allows dualcitizenship in some formor other under the locallaws, is eligible forregistration as OverseasCitizen of India (OCI).Minor children of suchperson are also eligiblefor OCI. However, if theapplicant had ever been acitizen of Pakistan orBangladesh, he/she willnot be eligible for OCI.

    3.Howcan oneget ?

    4. Whereto apply?

    - - To the IndianMission/Post in thecountry where theapplicant is ordinarilyresident; If in India onlong term visa(more thanone year), to the FRRO,Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta,Amritsar, CHIO, Chennai

    or to the JointSecretary(Foreigners),MHA.

    To the IndianMission/Post of thecountry of applicantscitizenship or wherehe/she is not in thecountry of citizenship, tothe Indian Mission/Postof the country in whichhe/she is ordinarily

    resident. If the applicantis in India, he/she canapply to the FRRO atDelhi, Mumbai, Kolkota,Amritsar, CHIO, Chennaior to the UnderSecretary, OCI Cell,Citizenship Section,Foreigners Division,Ministry of HomeAffairs, NDCC-II

    Building, Jai SinghRoad, New Delhi-110001.

    5. Fees? - - Rs. 15,000/- orequivalent in localcurrency for adults. Forthe children upto the ageof 18 years, the fee isRs. 7500/- or equivalentin local currency.

    US $ 275 or equivalent inlocal currency. In case ofPIO card holders, it is US$ 25 or equivalent inlocal currency.

    6.Whichnationalsareeligible?

    - - PIOs of all countriesexcept Afghanistan,Bangladesh, Bhutan,China, Nepal, Pakistanand Sri Lanka

    7.Whatbenefitsone isentitledto?

    All benefitsas availableto Indiancitizensubject to

    notificationsissued bytheGovernmentfrom time totime

    (i)Shall not require aseparate visa to visitIndia.(ii) Will be exempt fromthe requirements of

    registration if his/her stayon any single visit inIndia does not exceed180 days.(iii) In the event ofcontinuous stay in Indiaexceeding 180 days,he/she shall have to gethimself/herself registeredwithin 30 days of theexpiry of 180 days with

    the concernedFRRO/FRO.(iv) Parity with NRIs inrespect of all facilitiesavailable to the later inthe economic, financialand educational fieldsexcept in maters relatingto the acquisition ofagricultural/ plantationproperties. No parity

    shall be allowed in thesphere of political rights.

    (i) A multiple entrymulti-purpose life longvisa for visiting India.(ii)Exemption fromregistration with local

    police authority for anylength of stay in India.(iii) Parity with Nonresident Indians (NRIs)in respect of economic,financial and educationalfields except in relationto acquisition ofagricultural or plantationproperties. No parityshall be allowed in the

    sphere of political rights.

    Any other benefits toOCIs will be notified bythe Ministry of OverseasIndian Affairs (MOIA)under Section 7B(1) ofthe Citizenship Act,1955.
