Capital Metro ordered six GTW low-floor diesel articulated multiple units from Stadler in September 2005. In September 2015,
Capital Metro ordered four additional GTWs in order to ensure sufficient capacity for the increasing numbers of passengers on
the route between Austin and Leander. The trains are designed to reach a maximum speed of 120 km/h and comply with European
Standard EN 15227. They are equipped with 108 seats and standing room for 92, meaning they can transport 200 passengers.
The wheelchair and bicycle areas are AD-compliant. Thanks to their lightweight design and the two diesel-electric drives,
the trains are extremely energy efficient and capable of rapid acceleration and braking. The design of the GTWs allows Capital
Metro to operate a mixed fleet including freight trains, with the GTW meeting the new AVT requirements of the Federal Railroad
Administration.
