DIAT LADIES PARTICIPATION IN LAVASA WOMEN’S DRIVE-2012 Ladies play different roles in their lifetime. Born as darling daughters they go on to become sister, wife, daughter-in-law, mother-in-law and grandmother. In this journey, they sacrifice a lot for their near and dear ones and more often than not, neglect their own health while looking after the others. Cervical cancer is one such evil that plagues ladies. There is a necessity for ladies to educate themselves on such issues and spread the awareness in a unique manner that will catch the attention of a larger population. The ladies have a desire to do something out of the ordinary and at the same time spread the message. Lavasa Women’s Drive (LWD) recognizes this desire in women and has been wholeheartedly supporting it for the past four years. The LWD 2012 was organized on 26 Feb in two parts- a set of 350 cars from Mumbai and another set of 150 cars from Pune were flagged off to converge at Lavasa. The rally was a Time – Distance – Speed format, where the cars carried slogans through villages and streets to spread the awareness on cervical cancer. It was important to maintain the time taken for the drive as well as time between transit points. It was also necessary to maintain speed and cover the distance as prescribed. The following DIAT ladies successfully participated in the drive and completed the relay in the given format. i)Mrs Poornima Santusht (TSOC–Air Force)-Drive, ii)Mrs Anu Adhikari (Staff–Air Force)-Navigator iii) Mrs Swati Vaidya (Staff – Air Force) - Passenger.

The route followed was Balewadi Vits hotel (Flag Off) – Hinjewadi – Mumbai Pune Highway – Chandni Chowk – Warje – NDA mandir (Peacock bay) – Villages – Mutha _ Mutha Dam _ Lavasa. Total Distance is 96Km.

INSTALLATION OF FIBER OPTIC CABLE IN THE DIAT(DU) CAMPUS

The DIAT (DU) has taken initiative for installation of Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) from Telephone Exchange DIAT(DU) to New Major quarters (Panchgani Apartments). The trenching, Pipeline laying and the Cable work for around 2 k.m., length was completed on 4

th April 2012. The OFC is installed to

This OFC communication link will be used to provide the telephone connectivity to the New Major quarters as a future communication expansion. This work was completed under the supervision of Dr. S.S. Sirurmath, Chairman, Communication Advisory Committee and Shri KK Sawant, Assistant Professor and OiC, Telphone Exchange, DIAT(DU).
