Ashoka Arab World Terms of Reference Diaspora Intern Background: Ashoka’s mission is to create a competitive, entrepreneurial, and globally integrated citizen sector and to develop the profession of social entrepreneurship. Since 1981, Ashoka has identified, invested, and brought together more than 3000 leading social entrepreneurs in more than 64 countries around the world. In the present political and social state in many of the countries of the Arab World, Ashoka is well placed to help leading social entrepreneurs step forward with leadership and ideas for a more open, developed, and promising future. Ashoka’s roll-out plan in Egypt and the Arab world has built on the methodology we have developed and refined while launching 70 other countries, including the Arab World Regional Office in 2003. Position Title: Diaspora Intern Reports To: Ashoka Regional Director and Diaspora Assistant Internship: Full time Office hours: 9 am to 5 pm (unless assigned to stay later fulfilling work requirements) Working days: Five working days from Sunday till Thursday where Friday and Saturday are off (unless assigned to attend on weekends fulfilling work requirements) Tasks: General tasks: The Diaspora Intern provides continuous unconditional support to the Regional Director (RD) and Diaspora Assistant in helping develop and implement the Diaspora Strategy for Ashoka. This post calls for flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, data entry, research, and strategy building experience, and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside partners. Specific tasks: 1. Research and Evaluation: Review past Diaspora research briefs and partnerships for engagement learning and evaluation. Research and update Diaspora Resources with demographic and donor information related to Ashoka’s work. Prepare Diaspora research briefs on potential investors and partners under the direction of the Regional Director and Diaspora Assistant as requested. Map out potential Diaspora leads and partners. 2. Filing: Organize and update the Diaspora files in hard and soft copies. 3. Data Entry: Organize and enter contact information into Diaspora Database. 4. Strategy Building: Assist in the brainstorming and execution of Diaspora Strategy in coordination with the Diaspora Assistant. Coordinate the distribution of regular email updates to our Diaspora contacts via Ashoka newsletter as requested. 5. Perform any other tasks assigned by the Regional Director and Diaspora Assistant related to Diaspora leads and partners. Staff member will send a monthly report with all activities executed during the month; to be sent to Operations Manager, Financial Manager and Regional Director on the 25 th of each month. Qualifications:

Education: B.A. in a relevant field Experience: Research and data entry; strategy building

Language: Native fluency in written and spoken English Proficiency in written and spoken Arabic a plus

Required Skills:

Excellent writing skills

Excellent communication (written and oral) skills

Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, etc

Strong conceptual and analytical skills

Excellent organization and problem-solving skills

Ability to multitask

Great attention to detail The Person:

Work Conditions:

We work normal office hours (9 a.m. until 5 p.m., five days a week) 50-60% of the time.

We work until 6 or 7 p.m. at least 20 % of the time.

During major events, we work until 8 or 9 p.m. (25 % of the time).

Sometimes, we work during holidays, if necessary. (10% of the time).
