Use a clean glove or tissue to apply diaper cream if needed. Slide a clean diaper under child and fasten, then dress child.

Use soap and water at a sink if possible.

Diaper Changing Procedure

Wash your hands and bring supplies to the diaper changing area. Put on disposable gloves.

Keep soiled clothing away from you and any surfaces you cannot easily clean and sanitize. *Always keep hand on child.

Unfasten diaper but leave diaper under child. Remove stool and urine by wiping front to back. Place soiled wipes into soiled diaper.

Fold surface of soiled diaper inward and remove gloves. Place soiled diaper and gloves in a covered, plastic-lined, hands-free can. Use a fresh wipe to wipe your hands and the child’s hands. Place wipes into a covered, plastic-lined, hands-free can.

Put a clean diaper on and dress child

5 Wash child’s hands and return child to supervised area

Dispose paper liner if used. Remove any visible soil with detergent, then rinse. Wet entire surface with disinfectant and follow manufacturer’s direction for use.
