The Peaceful Home for Children, Kianyaga, Kenyaglobalstridescharity.comResponding to the ever present need to provide a non-institutional, safe and nurturing environment for orphans, The Peaceful Home for Children, a private institution, was built. It is run as a family structure by Joe Njogo, who operates as the director, and his wife Agnes, the manager and matron in charge. They have been looking after orphans for the past 20 years, treating each child with love and dedication, raising them as their own.

By living in our home the children are not only offered a safe and nurturing environment but also an education. A child cannot attend grade school in Kenya without a uniform, which means many children go uneducated as the families can’t afford the cost. Each child within the Peaceful Home for Children will be given a uniform and will attend grade school.

In Kenya students must pay to school. The cost is $1,500

USD per year for elementary school and $3,000 USD per year, a cost that is prohibitive to most.In 2014 with our first fundraiser we started an education fund to ensure all of our children are able to continue their education. Attending high school will solidify their future as educated individuals, thus opening up a world of possibilities. To ensure all fourteen children are able to attend high school we need to raise $225,000 USD. We will think about university after this goal has been met.

With the help of your generous donation, The Peaceful Home for Children will continue to provide a loving atmosphere for orphaned children, feeding their body and nourishing their minds.

As our children grow and become contributing citizens it is our prayer they will spread the love, contribute and support the next generation.

In 2009, I went to Kenya and fell in love with a wonderful family. I met Agnes and Joe Njogo, who had started an orphanage in 2007, supporting eight children. Today our orphanage has expanded to 14 children. Agnes is a wonderful, warm lady in her late 60s and her husband Joe is a very kind soul; both have amazing infectious smiles. I wondered how they could take this on at this stage in their lives. When I asked Agnes she said, “I told God I will do this, if you send me someone to help.” I knew in that moment, I would take this journey with them. I came home, started raising funds for food and basic needs and was amazed at the support I received from family, friends and perfect strangers. The generosity of so many encouraged me to think bigger and explore the possibility of becoming a Registered Canadian Charity. In 2010, with the support of my dear friend John Carbone, Global Strides Charity was registered. With the loving support of family and friends, our work began.
