Aquino (Adviser-Political Science Academic Society) together with their students at the 6th Annual National Convention of PSSAP, Inc. held in Cagayan De Oro City on February 6-9, 2014. They brought home the following awards: 1. Gracia Mae Beronilla and Rhobee Jyn Benan - 6th place and 8th place, Ten Outstanding Political Science Students of the Philippines; 2. The SLU-Center for Culture and the Arts represented by Dr. Noel De Leon, VP for Academic Affairs, and Mrs. Rebecca Nulud, Director of SLU-CCA, signed an agreement with Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). The program called “Kaisa sa Sinining: The CCP Regional Art Centers and University Art Associates,” aims to strengthen a dynamic partnership between the organizations and universities in promoting arts and culture.

As a result of the MOU signed in Thailand between the SLU-School of Teacher Education and Chiang Rai Rajabhat University (CRRU) in August 2013, our Thai partners came over to SLU on January 29, 2014 to discuss collaborative programs. Renewal of the MOU signed between the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii (FCCH) and SLU was done on February 15, 2014, exactly two years after the first MOU was signed, also in SLU. This year, FCCH President-Elect and SLU alumnus Mr. Paul G. Alimbuyao signed the MOU for FCCH while Atty. Arnulfo S. Soriano, SLU VP for Administration, signed on behalf of the SLU President. Dr. Noel Pabalan (3rd from left), researcher, was invited by the Royal Thai Government with support of the World Health Organization (WHO) to the Prince Mahidol Award Conference from 27-31 January 2014 in Pattaya, Thailand. Dr Pabalan represented Saint Louis University as plenary panelist along with the Dean of the Harvard School of Public Health and the WHO Director-General of Health Systems and Innovation. Dr Pabalan presented his case of integrating the meta-analytical approach in Transformative Learning for Health Equity, which was the conference theme. His conference paper, titled, “Transformative Learning in Health Education with the Meta-Analysis Approach” is currently considered by the WHO as one innovation to implementing health equity.

Louisians are concerned for the environment. Louisians know how to cooperate with others.

Both of these truths were illustrated last February 17 and 18 during the Free Smoke Emission Testing for vehicles, as a part of the SLU

Clean Air Campaign. This was a joint initiative of SSC-KASAMA, LEMAC and NSTP, together with the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO). It was the onset of a policy to ban

smoke-belching vehicles from entering campus.
