The Legend of Princess Roro Jonggrang

Once upon a time in Java Island, especially in Prambanan, there were two Hindu kingdoms, they were Pengging and Kraton Boko. Pengging kingdom was a prosperous and wealthy kingdom led by a wise king named Prabu Damar Moyo who had a son named Raden Bandung Bondowoso.

Kraton Boko was a part of Pengging kingdom jurisdiction led by a cruel king that was not a man but a giant who was a man eater named Prabu Boko. However, Prabu Boko had a very beautiful daughter named Princess Roro Jonggrang and also had step daughter named Roro Anteng.

One day, Roro Anteng heard her father talk to one of his soldier. Prabu Boko had a desire to revolt and had control over Pengging kingdom. Then, Roro Anteng told to her step sister.

Anteng : jonggrang, I’ve got a news for you.Jonggrang : Really? What’s the news?Anteng : when I passed the palace hall, I overheard our father

talking to one of the soldiers.Jonggrang: what are they talking about?Anteng: you know? Father wants to attack Pengging kingdom.Jonggrang: are you serious?Anteng: of course.

Suddenly, their father arrived.

Prabu Boko : my daughter, dad want to explain something. I will fight for the freedom of our country from Pengging.

Jonggrang : nice, daddy. I think on what father did.Prabu Boko : yeah. I don’t want our kingdom ruled by Damar

Moyo. You’ll support your father, right?Jonggrang: yes we will, dad. Prabu Boko: thanks my daughter. (then, he walked out)Anteng : is it the best decision? I don’t sure dad will be the

winner. Jonggrang : what did you say? Of course, he will wins the battle.Anteng : (with the face of doubt and fear) maybe. Lets we pray.

scene 2After having enough preparation, Prabu Boko and all soldiers

went to Pengging kingdom to revolt.

A lot of soldiers died from both sides and people of Pengging became poor and suffered from starvation. Knowing its situation, Prabu Damar Moyo was very anxious.

Prabu Damar : damn you Prabu Boko. He has made our people suffer. This battle has been too many casualties.

Bandung : father, allow me to go forward into battle! I must fight for our kingdom.

Bandung Bondowoso saw Roro Anteng and chased her.

scene 3After she arrived at Kraton Boko, Roro Anteng reported to

Princess Roro Jonggrang.

Jonggrang : why you come so haste, Anteng?Anteng : I'd just go to the dad’s battleJonggrang : what for you go there? You don’t need to go to there.

Anteng : Dad was killed by a prince of Pengging. His named Bandung Bondowoso. I've been trying to help our father, but Bandung Bondowoso had previously killed our father.

revenge for dad.Jonggrang : no one is allowed to kill my father. Bandung

Bondowoso will get the revenge.

There was crashed door.

Bandung : you are so beautiful. would you marry me?Jonggrang : who is he, Anteng?Anteng : he is Bandung Bondowoso. he has been murdered our

father.Bandung : princess, I talk to you. Would you marry me?Anteng : it’s not easy for you to marry my sister Roro Jonggrang,

well.

Jonggrang : Anteng, when Bandung Bondowoso success to build that well, we must kill him.

yourself how we are going to kill the killer's father

Bandung Bondowoso arrived..

Raden Bandung Bondowoso was angry..

Bandung : Roro Jonggrang , there is only 1 temple left, let you be the souvenir to make it complete

It was a miracle that suddenly Princess Roro Jonggrang transformed to the souvenir.Then, Raden Bandung Bondowoso cursed the girls around Prambanan area to become old virgins and sent Roro Anteng to the Bromo Mountain because they helped Princess Roro Jonggrang.

Until today, the souvenir of Princess Roro Jonggrang is still sell in Candi Prambanan.
