A self-guided walking tour of Dale Chihuly’s art in tacoma’s Museum District.

AboUt DALeDale Chihuly, born in Tacoma in 1941, has become one of the most recognized artists of his generation. He studied at the University of Puget Sound (then the College of Puget Sound) and received a BA from the University of Washington. He earned an MFA from both the Uni-

versity of Wisconsin–Madison and the Rhode Island School of Design. Since co-founding the Pilchuck Glass School north of Seattle with Anne Gould Hauberg and John Hauberg in 1971, Chihuly has gained both national and international acclaim for his leadership in the studio glass community.

Attracted to Tacoma’s historic buildings, industrial setting, and the natural beauty of its location on Puget Sound, Dale Chihuly retains close ties to his hometown. Tacoma Art Museum features the most comprehensive retrospective of Dale Chihuly’s artwork on public long-term display. Chihuly’s art is exhibited worldwide in museums, galleries, and pub-lic spaces. Tacoma boasts more installations of Dale Chihuly’s artwork than any other city in the world.
