The Hall of Fame was founded in 2005 by Steve Ward (Athletic Director at that time) and

got off the ground because of a generous $5,000 donation by Russ & Carolyn Anderson

(Lehmer’s Pontiac/GMC of Concord). Since that time, numerous individuals and businesses

have given generously which has made this an annual February event. The entire HOF Ex-

ecutive Committee would like to thank all who have donated in the past, which enables us to

honor and remember the rich tradition of Intercollegiate Athletics at Diablo Valley College

(formerly East Contra Costa College). Four display cases in the Physical Education building

are solely designated to the Hall of Fame and many artifacts are on display year-round.

Special thanks go out to Cindy Goga (DVC Foundation Director), Glen Abrams of Devil’s

Mountain Awards and the entire Norseman Restaurant Staff & DVC students.

CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE

The life lessons that athletic competition teaches you… such as work ethic, disci-

pline, dealing with adversity, social skills, working with peers and goal setting are all

evident by the distinguished group of men and women who are members of our

Athletic Hall of Fame.

DVC’s Athletic Hall of Fame has inducted former NFL players and Major League

Baseball players amongst other sport greats. Just as important, is that DVC has in-

ducted former student-athletes who became college graduates, teachers, coaches,

business owners, fire department captains, military and government personnel,

health professionals and even a college Chancellor.

From East Contra Costa College (athletics commenced in the Fall 1950 semester)

to present day Diablo Valley College, the Vikings have a storied history which con-

tinues to be written every year.

Since I have founded the HOF in 2005, I have been blessed by many who have

given money and their time to make this HOF a success. I am especially grateful

for my Executive Committee who helped rediscover our past.

An athletic Trust Account has been established for the DVC Hall of Fame for

those wanting to contribute.

Congratulations to these well deserved inductees and GO VIKINGS!
