Diabetes and Obesity are increasing our Health Care
Costs
According to the American Diabetes Association, nearly 24 million children and adults living in the United States are living with diabetes, and every 20 seconds, someone is newly diagnosed with diabetes -- that's more than 4,300 of our students, friends, neighbors, co-workers or family members every day.
Diabetes is a condition that occurs when the body can't use glucose (a type of sugar) normally.
In diabetes, the pancreas does not make enough insulin: type 1 diabetes
or
the body can't respond normally to the insulin that is made: type 2 diabetes
