Gone home…..Forever!Standing at the cemetery, with two fresh tombs, I was reckoned by the harsh reality of life- the next moment is not ours! Before even the flowers withered on one tomb, another person too has gone! December 2018, was the one of the indelible months of the year for INE. Two of our sisters have gone to eternity, putting us all into deep sorrow by going much earlier than we would all like them to go. Sr. Genevia, 1950-2018 (Sr. Gene)and Sr. Vandhana 1953-2018 (Sr. Vandhu), who are batch mates, were called back Home in a gap of seventeen days. Sr. Geneviva suffered a massive heart attack and died on the spot, while Sr. Vandhana battled her Cancer for a brief period of time. Sr. Gene, was a Formator and Teacher, who won the hearts of her students. She was known for her disciplined life and punctuality. Sr. Vandhana, a nurse by profession, also had worked in Botswana for few years. Prayerfulness, simplicity and total commitment made her unique. What we become depends on the trust we receive from our authorities. Sr. Gene was my first Superior. My two years in Amarvani School, under her leadership tenure was excellent. Soon after formation coming to the community, it was a scary thing as to how to adjust with ‘Senior Sisters’. I was the only junior there. The very first day itself I felt I am coming to a home than a community. The air was so open, that I didn’t have any ap-prehension to give myself totally for the mission. ‘Nos’ and ‘don’ts’ were very rare, she would always appreciate and encourage me. I think those two years were the fertile soil of initiation to religious life. Perhaps all my talents I discovered there. Thanks to my first superior, who made me feel confident and competent to go ahead in life. For Sr. Vandhana I was the naughty girl. Although she would get irritated with my tomboy-ness, with a sweet smile on her face and bit reluctant she would join me in playing pranks. She was a praying Sister. There would be always a prayer on her lips. One assurance any-one who talks to her would get was- pray; I will pray for you! When the sickness returned unexpectedly, even in her semiconscious state of mind, she would constantly call the aid of Mother Mary. The hymn “Vandhana karthe he…” would automatically surpass my mind the instant I see her. Both of our sisters had something in common. They were very simple in their life style and dedicated to their mission totally. They didn’t accomplish anything great. Nor they had any offices to head. They literally worked for the poorest of the poor. Sr. Gene had maximum of her life spent in the mission station of Kahupani, taking care of the education of poor girls. And Sr. Vandhana was in Amlikhaman, yet another interior Mission station, caring for the poor. Both of them had found joy in doing simple things. When death beckons, who can ask for more time? Its just- that’s it. Sr. Gene went before even she could complete the sentence she was speaking. Sr. Vandhu, had to pack up her-self even when the medical science had guaranteed total cure from her sickness. They were ‘active members’. And today they are not with us. The vacuum cannot be filled. But their memories will be cherished forever. When you go through the pages of “Dhwani”, I am sure you would re-live them. May these veteran Missionaries of INE, intercede for us.

Faithful Servants of Holy Spirit- Adieu dear SistersThe Lord created human beings out of earth, and makes them return to it again. He gave them a fixed number of days (Sir: 17: 1-2)

Two angels have just gone from us to home. They have completed their mission and were beckoned back by the Master. It pains me to accept the reality that Srs. Geneviva and Vandhana are not with us here on earth. They are now angels in the kingdom of God!As pioneer missionaries of INE, both of them have contributed much to the Mission. They were faithful and dedicated Servants of the Holy Spirit. They have joyfully walked the roads less travelled, faced so many challenges and difficulties and have given their best to the people whom they served. Sr. Geneviva comes to me as a person who is so simple, punctual and totally dedicat-ed woman. As a teacher, she had great devotion towards her duty. Her long years as teacher in Kahupani and again as Vice Principal cum teacher in Amarvani School, she gave her whole self. She was meticulous and very systematic. Punctuality, dedication and prayerfulness are the legacies she has left behind. Her last moment is the witness of her life on earth. She received greatest reward for her faithfulness- a peaceful death, with complete preparation. Her simplicity is a model for us. As her name- She was a gentle woman. Very calm and composed, who loved to be with minimum words. Sr. Vandhana could be called as a praying sister. Prayer was her greatest weapon. I can’t forget her last days, whenever I would call her and assure my prayers, she would respond “I am also praying for you”. Sr. Vandhana was a woman without guile. Very unassuming and straight forward. She loved to care for the patients. She loved to do, even though very little, but with much care and love. Whomever she has touched, she left an imprint in their life. She was a committed woman, who also took up leadership responsibilities and was faithful to it. When she was slipping into the merciless hands of the cureless disease, we could only stand with her helplessly. She suffered a lot. But God was kind enough to take her back without prolonged suffering. Losing two of our members within a short duration was very painful. Both of them were batch mates. Time spend on earth, they utilized for mission. When they suddenly departed from us, they have entrusted their unfinished task with us. I am sure; they were worth servants of God, who now are enjoying the presence of Jesus in the com-pany of Angels. Simple souls are the favorite persons of God. Dear Srs. Gene and Vandhu, May you enjoy eternal bliss. We the SSpS family, your own dear siblings, relatives and friends and all whom you have touched with your gentle care pay the homage for you. In the company of Angels, intercede for us. We Miss you. Eternal rest Grand unto them O lord, And Let Perpetual Light Shine upon them.

Sr. Regina George SSpS Provincial Leader.

As Gentle As Silence…………..!Sister Geneviva Toppo.,

Imlu Geneviva Toppo is the first vocation to the SSpS family received from the state of Jharkhand, the then Bihar state. The child, who was born in the cradle of the Gang-pur Mission, grew up in a loving family, lavished with Church relatedness, faith and education. No surprise that she heard the call to religious life as a grown up after her graduation. My association with Sr. Geneviva began in 1974-75 in the Novitiate. Her’ was the ju-nior group. In 1983 we had the Tertiate in Mumbai and Perpetual vows in Bengaluru together. After a gap of a few years, in 1988 we worked together in formation – she the directress of candidates and I, assisting her in the work.Later in 2001 again we worked in Amarvani School, Angul for a few years. She was a great support in the official work that got the school affiliated to the ICSE Board, Delhi. Many were the anxious moments faced together. Without counting the cost she supported the march towards the goal and objectives of the school. The first batch of Class X students of Amarvani received all help and encouragement to face the Board Examination successfully by her tireless efforts. The school was fortunate to have her presence with the students at the first excursion organized for them to visit Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. The first exhibition organized in Amarvani in various aspects – Science, Arts, Ecology and children’s effort in making useful things from discarded materials etc received her experience and insight to make it a praiseworthy event. At homeliness, caring discipline and inclusiveness made her more than a teacher making the children to feel at ease with her, seek for her help in acquiring knowledge and in need to settle differences between companions. Teachers too received her guidance and learned to be a better teacher in companioning students.Sr. Genevieve’s presence was as that of a gentle breeze…..Much needed and welcomed. She passed away as gentle as silence! We could only experience it in the depth of our hearts. We miss her! May her presence linger on in the communion of saints!

Shalom!

Sr. Genevia , a peace loving person . By profession she was teacher. She joined teaching as a teacher in Vidhya Jyoti Girl’s High School, Kahupani in the year 1995 until 2012. During the year I got chance to live with her closely. Internal and external discipline was outstanding in her. She was always punctual in everything. In the morning she was the first one to open the chapel, the first one to reach the church for Holy Eucharist, the first one to reach for all the community exercises and the first one to reach to her work-ing place, the school. I never saw her being late anywhere. By seeing her life going on in this way, I used to wonder sometimes, how Sr. Genevieve could be on time everywhere. I used to listened to her family stories whenever we had light moments. She was the first child of her parents. After her, nine more siblings came in her family- five girls and five boys. Her mother, Dorothy, was a professional nurse, and her father was an officer in military. Little Imlu- pet name of Sr. Genevive, stayed with her father in Ranchi, from Monday to Saturday for her schooling and also to help out her father in her own little ways. She went to church with her father every day with-out fail, and also was a regular student to school. On every Saturdays, she would come to Gumla, where the rest of the family was living. They stayed on Sundays at home and on Monday went back to Ranchi for work and school. Sr. Gene, being the eldest one had to be an example for her younger siblings. She kept up her time table and followed them faithfully. Her mother being a nurse was very committed to be on time for duty. It was her grandmother, one uncle and two aunties, who helped her to look after the children. Her Grandmother was an educated lady , who was appointed as a teacher in the primary school in their village. She saw to that all her grand children should study well. Imlu Geneviva completed her graduation in St. Xavier’s college, Ranchi. Recognizing her call to be a missionary in Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit, she joined the congre-gation and remained faithful to her call till the end. As a community member and a teacher in Kahupani, she was an example to all the sisters, staff and the students. She was punctual, disciplined, committed, faithful, loyal, loving, caring and very hard working. Her attendance in the school was cent percent-age! She was never absent, neither got any major sickness. In fact she was very careful about her health. She loved and cared for the students, specially the weaker ones. She would take extra classes for them. Besides her teaching, she was also the in-charge of the school hostel. She loved them much. Besides food and shelter she would teach them the use of country medicines. It is interesting to notice that during her tenure, very few cases of sickness was recorded

A faithful, and Loyal Servant of Holy Spirit

among the students. Sr. Geneviva was a very good community member too. Her participation in the com-munity was complete. She was always ready to give herself to the community. She was loyal to the sisters and also straight forward when anything went wrong in the community. She voiced her concern to rectify the matter and also tried to bring back the unity. I used to appreciate her love, care, concern and encouragement for her sis-ters to keep them united. She always stood for her sisters and was loyal to them. Her actions were louder than voice. She was an inspiration to me to be faithful and loyal. And be a support to my sisters, to stand with them and help them in their trials and difficulties, and avoid any kind of distractive criticisms and cultivate constructive feed backs. May the good spirit of Sr. Geneviva remain with us!May she enjoy eternal bliss.

Years we travelled together… now she is gone alone

My first meeting with Sr. Geneviva was in the month of April 1974 in Holy Spirit Hos-pital Mumbai. She had completed the candidacy and was waiting to go to Bangalore to join Postulancy and I joined as a candidate. Though I did not know her earlier she took care of me very well. Since I was coming from the village set up and did not know English I felt home sick and wanted to come back home. But to make me feel at home he took me to her aunt’s house. Since she was born and brought up in a loving family of 5 sisters and 5 brothers she had learned to take care of others, to live together with love and understanding and share whatever things she had. Her way of behavior was very simple. She never showed that her family was rich. She lived very simple life. This is my own experience of her. She loved me and shared many things spiritual and material and helped to be-come an SSpS. She loved me like her own sister though we were not together except in Gomardihi and Pallarha. We have learned from each other many things. In Gomardihi she was sewing centre in charge and when she had doubt she used to ask her mother and we used to teach the girls. She was very generous person. She was able to adjust with any person and in any place. She was very hard working, straight for-ward and honest. Though she had completed her studies to teach in the Oriya medium she wrote 7th standard Oriya exam and passed and was teaching with less pay. She has helped poor and weak students and they have come up in life. She had learned from home itself to work in the garden so whenever she got time she used to cultivate vegetables in the garden so that the hostel children could have vegetables. This I have seen and experienced while we lived together in Pallarha and Gomardihi. She was a lover of flowers and nature. Whenever she found some plants of different kind she used to bring even if it was difficult to carry. She used to say ‘I enjoy doing gardening’. I thank Sr.Geneviva for what she was to me and she will be remembered till we meet again. May her soul rest in peace.

In remembrance of Sr. Genevieve, by batch mate

Sr. Geneviva has given a shock and a surprise to everyone who is known to her, through her sudden and unexpected death. Her demise made me to reflect on our life which is very short on earth. Being one of her batch mate I began to recall, our journey to-gether on earth- from Aspirancy to Juniorate in Bangalore and thereafter as professed Members. But ultimately Sr. Geneviva was too quick to complete her journey and has reached back her destination. I recall and cherish our days being together. As a person Sr. Geneviva was simple, modest, punctual, systematic, prayerful and dis-ciplinary. She had come from an educated and prayerful family. She used to share a lot about her family. Being the eldest child of the family, she had great concern and care for her other siblings. Since her younger days, she had made it a practice to wake up very early in the morning and go for Holy mass daily. This practice she kept up until the day she bid farewell. She was very faithful in her spiritual practice. This specialty of hers’ inspired me from formation years onwards. Another specialty of Sr. Geneviva was that, she considered ‘health as wealth’! Her mother being a nurse trained her to keep fit, and be in good health always. She had learnt the health benefits of mustard oil from her mother. Every day before going to bed she would apply a drop of mustard oil on the palms and feet to keep her warm. This prevented cold and cough. She hardly had any sickness. She kept up her health regime seriously with self discipline. One of her outstanding personality was punctuality. In the community, for any sort of activities- prayer, meeting, work etc, she would be the first to arrive. She was a friend to all, and gave priority to Jesus. I can recall many more instances. She is very fresh in my memories, with her love, care, commitment and dedication towards mission. She was a good teacher, and a mentor of young generation. Her concern towards students was so much so, she would even spend her personal allowance for their welfare. Thanks Gene, you have inspired me through your life. May your Soul Rest in Peace!

I have come that you may have life; Life to the full

These words of Jesus was lived by Sr.Geneviva. Sr.Geniviva came across to me a very committed SSpS. She loved the Lord and was connected with Him. Very faithful in her prayer life. My experience of sister is that she always saw the will of God. When any task or appointment given, she willingly accepted and gave her best. She loved the poor and the needy .She was very simple and patiently accomplished her task in this earth.Sr.Geniviva’s passing away from this Earth was sudden which brought shock and loss but She had wonderful journey to heaven accompanied by angels and saints in heaven.May Sr.Genivia intercede for us to be faithful to God and to His Mission. May her life inspire us I thank God for her wonderful contributions to the Church to the congrega-tion and to the province of INE and to each of us.May she enjoy Eternal Peace in Heaven.

“The LORD is my portion; I will wait for him.” The LORD is good to those who hope in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.-Lamentations 3:24 - 26

As I fondly remember Sr. Genevive, My memory flashes back to my Postu-lancy and the recent short time of get together with my group mates in Gomardhi, on December 2nd, 2018 where I had the chance of encountering Sr. Gene's love and care. She rendered her loving service in the formation with lot of enthusiasm and affection. She was exemplary in her way of living and the life style. She had an amicable persona for young and old. She looked into every detail of religious formation of the young postulants. She was down - to - earth in her instruction to the postulants as she walked the talk. She had a convivial heart for everyone. She had a deep desire for each one of us in our growth and in forming the postulants for the future SSpS way of life. She always took us along the path towards God. My recent meeting with her is ever bright in my vision. As we all her, past postulants reached Gomardhi, when we went for seeing around the communities, she was delighted to see us after many years. As the community had prepared a sumptuous dinner, She fed us with lot of love and care. Although I had a short time of sharing with her.... it makes me say that Sr. Gene has truly left a legacy in the history of our congregation. I am happy that I got an opportunity to have shared my life with her. May the Lord who has taken her back to his glory keep her soul ever in eternal bliss.

As I was recalling regarding life of Sr. Geneviva above sentence surfaced in my mind. She was deeply attuned to God’s voice so acted accordingly. She was serene and calm within. She was contented and joyful. Sr. Geneviva as I know was a person of well-disciplined in her daily routine, in personal life as well as food intake. She exer-cised regularly and kept herself fit.As a vice principal and teacher she was in her best to shoulder the given responsibili-ties. Due to her punctuality she completed her tasks on time so there were no anxieties shown on her face. She was in-charge of all co-curricular activities and examination controller along with full time teaching yet she did her work persistently.Superior ship was another added responsibility as she was already heading heavy load. Yet she carried forward her job diligently. Being a religious person she dealt every bit of work carefully. She was loving and caring towards her community members. Sr. Geneviva was curious to learn new things. Her thirst for gaining more knowledge led her to study and write some exams even after her 55 years of age.Sr. Genevia May you enjoy eternal bliss and intercede for your sisters.

Sr. Geneviva was my formator for one year in Bangalore, when I was a student Aspi-rant. She appeared rather serious and disciplined, but in reality she was very humorous and friendly with the young ones. We felt well at home with her. Being a teacher, she helped the Aspirants to excel in studies. After those formation years, I never had lived with her, although we are in the same Province. When I went to Pallhara community, a place Sr. Geneviva had served for three years recently, one day I happened to look at the Pastoral Ministry report which was written by her. It drew my attention. She had written so beautifully about her mission activities. I was curious to know more about her ventures and initiatives. Pallhara, as we all know is not an easy land for Mission; and all the more for pastoral activities. She was all alone going around visiting the families, praying for them and motivating the children to aim higher in life. I realized she had tremendous commitment towards the faith formation of HO people. Even after three years people fondly remember her and her activities. Truly she believed in ‘doing small thing with great love’. She had done both great things as well as small things with great love. I gratefully remember her, and pray that may her rest in peace. And also may she be the intercessor for the People of Pallhara.

I was privileged to live with Sr. Genevieve in two different communities for pried of one year. In Kahupani for one year , and again in Pallhara for one year as she was in- charge of hostel and I was appointed as assistant hostel in-charge. We were staying in the same room for few months. What is my experience is that she was very disciplined person. She kept up her rising time at 4 am without fail. She had a sched-ule of the day. As she got up fi rst prayer then reading the Word of God and after getting ready she was the fi rst person in the chapel. Also she used to spend long time seating in the chapel. I felt she was a prayerful and God fearing person. Life in Pallhara, she was the hostel in-charge. Here again I had experienced her prayer life, discipline and punctuality, regular in all yoga exercises and rising at the same time-4 am. The morning schedule remained same even after many years. After fi nishing her exercise personal prayer, reading the Word of God and fi rst to reach chapel. And if it is her kitchen turn she used to be the fi rst one in the kitchen helping the cook. She was person who never complained regarding her health. She strongly believed in nat-ural and herbal medicine. Whatever she could make and be used for her she had great faith in it. Any leaf found to be medicinal without hesitation she eats she convinced others too to eat. She was not much interested in allopathic medicine and hospital we have forced her to go to hospital or see a doctor. Regarding mission she had great zeal and interest to teach poor children also helping poor people. She was a catechist. During her home visit few catholic poor people she brought to our dispensary and treated them with concession, or even gave them her personal al-lowance. As a catechist sister in an interior mission area, she had to do much work manu-ally in the church. She would clean the church without any hesitation. She did it joyfully. In community it was very pleasant to live with her. With young and elder she behaved ac-cordingly. She knew how to adjust. She was a caring person, who cared for the person in the community and things without any problem. She was ever willing and lived a simple life style. Walking far distance she was not used to but in Pallhara she was appointed as a catechist and she walked miles and visited people and prayed with them. After a tiring and long walk, her medicine and remedies for pain were just hot water bath and apply mus-tarded oil on whole body. She used to say, after this I feel good and my tiredness is gone. She was generous and compassionate to the poor children and poor folks. She had deep faith in herbal medicine. During her tenure as hostel in charge she provided hostel chil-dren with herbal medicine for malaria treatment. Her sudden departure was a painful one. Sr. Veronica TirkeyPallhara

The real meaning of education has changed forms in recent years. Now, is it for the better or worse, let the time decide. I feel blessed to be a part of this journey of creat-ing the internal army of my nation, the youth, lacks direction.

I am a student of Sr. Geneviva, from Amarvani School, Angul. Although I have a very faint memory of my childhood still I can easily recall her. Things were differ-ent in those days. Not a single mistake of ours went unnoticed and not a single effort was left unpraised. Today notebooks fell dry of correction, everything these tender hands write is overlooked. We don’t take time to form them, to correct them, because it becomes an added responsibility which asks time beyond regular classes. Are we ready to put this effort? The aspiration of nation building is substituted by the hunger of home building.

We were lucky!!! I remember someone holding my hand correcting my “M” & “N”, my “U” & “W”, I remember someone going that extra mile, taking that extra effort, identifying who needs tweaking, who needs twisting of ears, who needs some guid-ance!!! Not easy, Isn’t it? But I write this in her memory. The lady who took that extra effort, not only for me but for who so ever needed one. Geography was never a nice learning experience for me but I liked chaos, I mean I would create chaos. Try it today, you will be the bull’s eye for the teacher, who will hit you every possible chance he/she gets with his/her ego. But I remember she was different, I never was a bull’s eye for her, but a half molded clay ready to be shaped.

Thank you Sr. Geneviva, I am not wiping in tears, coz there in heaven those unmold-ed clay need shaping.

With Love

Sr. Geneviva Toppo who was called to eternal rest all on a sudden on 10 December 2018 was really a torch bearer of education. Coming from a remote tribal area of Jharkhand she was one of the first members to join in the religious congregation of the Holy Spirit. Eldest in the family she had a mature and intuitive approach to realities of life. That she kept up all through her life. At first she was in the undivided Province placed in Indore. Later when the new provinces were formed she opted for the Eastern India Province. Obedient to her Superiors Sr. Geneviva qualified herself for the ministry of education, She remained faithful to her mission until her last breath. Hailing from a remote tribal family of mixed cultural milieu she had to struggle a lot to be in par with the chal-lenging life of the nuns. Everything was quite new - the language, customs, discipline, traditions of religious congregation. She managed all these successfully and inserted herself into the community cherishing the divine call received from God. Her self-ed-ucation and identification with the religious community of the Holy Spirit Sisters have paved the way for her standing in good stead at all times. Once qualified well she was fully involved in the educational field to impart her knowledge and skills to others. She dedicated herself for the betterment of the young ones and formed them in a noble way - be they students of the school or boarding children. There was a total commitment and utmost dedication in whatever she did. She helped out the boarding children with tuition and formation of good character, taught them also to do vegetable farming and the dignity of labour. The boarding stu-dents were always found to be happy and joyful under her leadership. She had good command over them as well as respect. It is the apostolate of presence. Be with the students at all time – in their study, in their meals, at play. At work, at prayer and at sleep. When one surrounds the children with a homely atmosphere where they would receive loving affectionate care and directive assistance essential for their growth as mature persons. She managed to maintain good relationship with the parents of the wards and they were ever grateful to her. She looked after them as the apple of her eyes. Students of Kahupani, Angul, Bethia and Gomardih cherished her tender care, affection and guidance.

Sr. Geneviva had understood the transforming power of education. As Nelson Man-dela had mentioned, “ Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. Education is the key to eliminating gender inequality, to reducing poverty, to creating a sustainable planet, to preventing needless deaths and illness, and to fostering peace.Along with the educational activities she was also keen in rendering pastoral services as and when needed by the respective parish priests. Her contribution in the field of active participation in liturgy, catechetical training, celebrations of all hues and colors are remarkable. She helped them all for a meaningful celebration of the events and occasions. On the second of November all souls day she sent a message quoting Abdul Kalam’s words, “ One day , we all will depart on a journey free of cost. Don’t worry about seat reservation, it is confirmed. The flight is always on time. Our good deeds will be our luggage. Humanity will be our passport. Love will be our visa. Make sure we do our best to travel to Heaven in business class”. Surprisingly this message was quoted and sent twice. It was something unusual. As she was called to eternal rest soon, one may wonder whether it was intuitive, intentional or not. May her noble soul rest in peace and enjoy the heavenly bliss with the Risen Lord. May she intercede for us all.

We are profoundly saddened at the demise of our beloved former Vice Principal Sr. Geneviva, a member of our Amarvani Family. She passed away in Jharsuguda on 10th of December, 2018 after the morning prayer because of a massive cardiac arrest .It was a great loss not only to our school but also to all those who knew her closely. Her death has greatly shattered our hearts. She was a humble, noble as well as very honest person towards her duty. She served our school for a long time and had been an eminent part of life of many students who have carved their prosperous future from our school. She always had a motherly smile when any one greeted her in person. It was a rich expe-rience working with her as a colleague. She was with me in both good and bad times helping me through all circumstances to utmost power. She was active and influential in raising the talent of the students and discipline of our educational institution. With heavy heart and condolence to SSpS I pray to almighty that her soul may rest in peace. With condolence from,

“Everybody dies but great souls are resurrected in our memories forever”_ and such a great soul was Sr Geneviva, the former vice principal of AVS. In the journey of life I met her in the year 2004, a good friend, mentor, and guide for all of us. She was neither found rich nor famous but served as a teacher and was proud to have done that. She never let other men down and fulfilled every task assigned to her successfully. She was a teacher of all things. Her methods are simple. She taught by example and rationalisation especially when face with an ethical dilemma. She was strong in body, mind, spirit and commitment. She respected everyone and was honestly respected by everyone who regarded her as a wonderful provider of knowledge. Her contribution to education is really remarkable. Her hard work was beyond the comprehension of our generation. She worked tremendously hard till the last breathe of her life and desired a better life for her children. Sr. Geneviva used her skills with all kind of tools- from chalks to blackboards, to books and pens. She was conscientious and determined to help many unprivileged. I never once found her utter a racial or ethnic slur nor did she treat anyone with anything other than respect and supportive kindness, encouraging them to succeed in life. She never treated anyone in the name of cast, creed and color.…..But we are all bound to the bitter truth, to sleep in the lap of death, the inevitable end of life. We are here in this universal theatre performing our roles only and we need to leave the stage after accomplishing our tasks. On 10th December, such an unwanted call came to our lovely sister. After completing her morning prayer, while sitting with other sisters, she lost her life due to a severe car-diac arrest. She is no more with us but her unflagging support for personal development in education will really help us to bring changes in imparting quality education. I am really proud to work with her, because she was a person with a difference. I really loved and admired her a lot. She was a person whose legacies were worth commendation and open emulation. And while it is natural for us to be sorry at her demise- it is infinitely more important for us to be happy that she lived, and that we were privileged to share with her a part of her life. Though she is no more among us she will remain in our heart for ever.

Long live sister, Amarvani remember you!Long live sister, Amarvani honours you!Long live sister, Amarvani celebrates you!Long live sister, we all love you!

I am sure Sr.Vandhana heard these words from the Lord when she met the Him in Heaven.I can still see Sr.Vandhana with her sweet smile on her face though suffered long there was sadness as well as cheer on her face.I was privileged to serve her shortly and comfort her in her illness. When she travelled to Bhubaneswar from Jharsuguda in her pain suffering She was overjoyed to greet me saying ‘my Flory’, just before she got in to the train. And when I accompanied her to airport in Bhubaneswar She told me Pray and ‘pray’ ‘pray’ more and more and so on Sr.Vandhana journeyed to heaven praying..All the sisters around her accompanied her to the Lord with their prayers.I thank God for the gift of life of Sr.Vandhana to her dear parents to the congregation to the province of INE and to each one of us. I thank God for all her selfless service to the people in Africa and to the people of Odisha .I admire her endurance in so much of pain and suffering still always connected with the Lord. May Sr.Vandhana continue to pray for us from heaven. May her departed soul rest in Peace.

Our life is a journey of hope and love, to be lived and to be able to give back to the cre-ator. As I pen down these lines about Sr. Vandana, I am sure that she lived a life of hope and love. She shared her love and showed her concern for the other. She worked whole hearty for her mission and loved her own till the end so tenderly, at the same note she peacefully handed over her life to the creator.Accompanying her in her last months was a blessing and time for me to refl ect on life. It was a phase for me to love and respect her and in a way be grateful to her and almighty for the gift of life. Never know how the end comes to each of us but each day is another opportunity to make up.Life is God's most treasurable gift. But it is how we choose to live this gift that gives us full meaning and appreciation of what is truly vital. Many will come and go in our lives, leaving imprints on our souls and memories that intense our hearts. But with each lasting imprint, we receive some of life's greatest lessons. They are the people we never forget, the ones who signifi cantly changed our lives, and it is forever that we are grateful. Sr.Vandhana, you understood life, you must have fully lived life. You cared for the other even in your sick bed, dear Patricia. When the staff used to give you to eat, you always asked whether we gave to the other some. Of course not the coffee given to you, you loved it till the last drop.Sr. Vandhana, like any other wanted to live longer; Our lifespan is a time which the Lord gives to individuals. He has determined the preappointed times and the boundaries of our dwellings. She always was concerned and wanted to be part of the congregation, after a meeting when we returned to Loyola Hospital, she asked and reminded that ‘my dear I too am SSpS and need to know what is happening in the meetings, tell me!’Sr. Vandhu, loved to pray the mercy rosary and sing Marion hymns. She called Mary our mother: ammemathave: anyone who listened to her could tell of it. We could accompany her with the rosary and the songs till the last moment. May she intercede for us through mother Mary. There is another aspect of “life” that is praiseworthy of contemplation. It is the reality that one lives this earthly life only once, and would be wise to make it count. Life is so uncertain. The aged Isaac once expressed a sentiment that is applicable to most of us: “I know not the day of my death” (Gen. 27:2). None of us know our time/ hour. It comes unannounced.

Will you also come with me my dear? Will you also come with me my dear?

Jesus never stands aloof when the storms come knock our lives. On the contrary, he walks through ‘fire’ and ‘water’ to get to us. However, just as it was difficult for the disciples to identify Him,sometimes it is difficult to determine the presence of Jesus in our lives. He cries out to each one of us, “Courage, it is I; do not be afraid” (Mark 6:50).As Jesus saw the disciples in their moment of difficulty, the Lord is aware of every trial or difficulty that comes our way. If we give Jesus a chance in our boats, the buffeting wind would cease.Sr.Vanadhana was afraid to go; she asked me many times while in Loyola Hospital whether I will go with her. I believe Jesus joins us in our “boat” He doesn’t just tell us not to be afraid; He enters into our situation and promises to remain with us every step of the way. This might not mean an immediate healing of any sickness or a surprise. But it may well entail the Lord offering His help just when one most need it. Or maybe nothing appears to happen at all, but experience a sense of peace in the midst of turmoil. Whatever happens, Jesus wants to show us that He is with us for the long haul. He has no intention of abandoning us. This means we can trust in Him, even in the most terrifying of storms. We never know when is our expected time, no matter who, when, where, with whom or any other question, we have to go or we just go leaving behind some memories. Let us try to make therefore some good ones. Lord Jesus Christ, open my eyes this day to see you present in my stormy state. As I beg for your grace, may I be liberated and carried securely to shore.

I have beautiful memories of Sr. Vanadhana, living with her in Bhubaneswar for three years. In the first year of our stay she taught me the virtue of forgiveness. We had made a decision that whatever differences or negative feelings that we had towards each other, we need to settle them before sun goes down. This practice had made a big difference in our lives and we had built up good relationship with each other. As a nurse she rendered personal and quality service t the patients who came across to her. She believed in the bed side patient care- no matter whether it is day or night. The young staff who experienced her loving care in the Hospital always addressed her as ‘Aunty’. In whatever she did, she believed in being faithful. It is wonderful to recall the beautiful life that she lived on earth. She was an Angel in her own way. May God grand her eternal reward.

I have not lived with Sr. Vandhana as a community member but had enough opportu-nity to interact with her, spend time in light conversation and to have personal sharing and casual talks. According to my experience she was a person who was very simple at heart and in life style. She was very caring and loving. She was a personification of perfection in all what she did. I have heard from the Province treasurers that her account used to be accurate. Another quality which I liked in her was her punctuality and doing things on time. Her policy was to finish things ahead of time rather than hurrying at the last moment. She had an order in life that she used to keep her belonging very neat and tidy. She was a peace loving person and believed in it and used to take initiative to ask for forgiveness reconcile in times of conflict and misunderstanding. Mission oriented. Loyalty and faithfulness to the community as well as to the congregation was her prior-ity and confidential too. She was a person who was respectful to superiors and persons in authority. Whenever I met her especially during sickness she used to share about her sickness, treatment and her feelings. My last visit to her was when she was in Loyola hospital, BBSR. She could see no more. So I told her that I am Selin do you remember me? Pinnille was her answer means yes. I consider that was my good bye to her and that Pinnille still echoes in my ear.

Sr. Vandana’s life had been a kind of ‘Sibling Experience” for me. I have experienced her as a loving and caring elder sister, for whom I was and will be a ‘Thangachi’ (Young-er sister). There is a very strong belief in me that behind every beautiful thing, there is some kind of pain, this is what I feel right now missing those beautiful moments of her echoing in love Thangachi. She has taught me and showed me live life as human; wrapped in respect, humility, concern and love.

My journey as an SSpS with her seem to be short, but she has enthused me enough to stand tall. Her lost few months of grip between human and Divine has awakened me to live life as precious and worth for mission and people. Definitely I miss her physi-cal presence but I will hold high her memories and lessons for life. Dear Sr, Vandana, intercede for us your sisters. We need your angelic support for our mission. May you enjoy the rest of your life in the heavenly abode. Your Lovingly,Thangachi Vimala

When I recall my past experiences with Sr. Vandana, the first though comes to my mind is, she had strong faith in God and trusting in God’s providence she had began her mis-sion in Orissa. Her life here was very interesting and challenging yet , she appeared in midst of humanity , was shown to be right by the spirit and was seen by angels , she had spread her goodness among many to recall, finally she was taken up to heaven.

We were together in Amlikhaman community in the year 1993-95. She was my com-munity leader. She was a person very much committed to her responsibility, and always trying to be perfectionist. During her work she would only concentrate her own task not anything else. She worked for the mother child health (MCH) in collaboration with social service society at Jharsuduga for three years. There were three animators to assist her in all her project activities. I can say that she is a very unique person; she is open and transparent in her dealing with finance.

She always encouraged others for the good work. The inspiring lived experience of her life in this mission is interesting. She was able to adjust with anyone and the food. Another good quality of she is that anything happens between two first steps she takes to reconcile with the other. Not keeping the hurt. She loved the poor persons and the children. She has given her time and energy for the poor patients. Especially when the hostel children were sick, she has given her time for them. As it is said that in the Bible the people were amazed as they saw when the patients get alright, same way she has helped the patients to get alright. She was wise in the way she acted towards those who are not believers. She cared loved every one. Today we miss her, but we hope that she will pray for us in heavenMay your Soul Rest in Peace!

Memories become experiences, and experiences become new insights to live by. Every person who passes through our life, leaves behind something’s of them to be cherished and to remember forever.I have lived with Sr. Vandhana. She was the dispensary in charge cum Community Leader in Amlikhaman. She was unique. And there was something so special about her. Sr. Vandhana outshined in her prayerfulness and simplicity. Her simplicity was well reflected in her clothing, food habits and life style. She was quite conscious about using materials. She tried to minimize the usage and always preferred recycling. She never discarded her clothes because they were out of fashion. She would mend it till the end. Sometimes I would feel bit embarrassed to see her wearing old clothes, I would buy for her new dresses on special occasion as a sign of gratitude for her service to the hostel. She cared for persons individually. She didn’t believe in having many people around. But she valued who ever came to her. She would wait for me come for lunch from school. Often I would be late; but she would wait there with hot lunch in Tiffin. She was a prayerful woman. Due to my commitment in the Hostel those days, I would get late in coming for prayers. Being a Superior, she neither expressed anger nor made any remarks. She was more understanding. She would say “If you are busy we will pray for you”. She would be often found with Rosary. Perhaps the serene nature of the jungles of Amlikhaman, made her feel closer to God. Another notable character of Sr. Vandhu is straightforwardness. She was sincere and honest. Therefore she could speak without malice. Appreciating people for their good work, she never showed any difficult. She was an unseen hand of support for me. Today she would be enjoying the place with God in heaven. In her ways, she lived like a Saint. More over her committed life is a witness to be faithful May Sr. Vandhana rest in peace.

Time and tide wait for none. Time and tide reveals their truth, that both wait never for none. Life is priceless, and can only be pass by us. When time comes for the cal to eter-nity, w can’t stop it or wait longer!

When God looked around His garden, he found an empty place. Then he looked around and down to the earth, there he found the tired face of Vandhana. He was glad to fill His empty place in His garden. He puts His arms carefully around her, and uprooted so lovingly and re planted her in His garden. He thought, now my garden is beautiful, with the best plant he has taken from the earth.

He knew that you were suffering. You were in pain. And he knew you will never get well on earth again. He saw that the road was getting rough, and the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eye lids and whispered come to my garden Dear Vand-hana.

It broke our hearts to lose you. But we assured we must meet again in God’s garden when we come to fill the empty place again. We wait for that day!Till then, good bye to you Vandhu. May you rest in His arms.

I had gone for the community experience as Aspirant, to Holy Spirit community Bhu-baneswar. Sr. Vandhana was there, battling the painful disease. Although my heart ached to see her condition, when I knew my presence was a comfort to her, I felt happy to be with Sister. Though very short time, I was happy to care for her, in her final days on earth. My days with her were special experience for me. I saw her smiling through pain. Some-times she was disoriented in her speech, yet she would talk a lot. When I talk to her she would listen to me eagerly, as if to a close friend. Her smile through pain, I think that was one of the most beautiful things on earth I ever saw. I didn’t know how to take care of her. She needed more medical and physical attention. However she was so understand-ing to me and never lost cool at me. I built a special bound with her. I saw a big sister in her. At her death I knew, SSpS family has lost a good member. I used to pray, Lord heal her, and give her back to us. At her funeral when we bid good bye to her, her beautiful smiling face flashing before me. I am sure she is enjoying the company of Jesus. No more pain and no more discomfort!Dear Sr. Vandhana, you will be ever in my heart. Please intercede for us, that I too may be like you a committed and faithful Servant of Holy Spirit.

I have known Sr. Vandhana very little. Those little memories of her is enough of a trea-sure to carry on. She will remain in my heart as a praying Sister.I was in Bhubaneswar community for my community experience as Aspirant. As I reached there I realized, that she is admitted in the hospital and I have the chance to meet her again. Next day morning, I rushed to meet her in the hospital. When I entered she whispered to me something in Malayalam, which I didn’t understand. However I guessed that she was uttering a prayer. I have heard about the missionary life of Sr. Vandhana. She was a missionary to Bo-tswana and as a nurse, was very faithful in her profession. She offered prayerful support to the patients. For me she was a joyful sister, who even endured her painful days with prayer on the lips. Her painful days were hard to stand. My companion and I would sit with her and pray. She would be constantly saying “pray” “Pray”. She is no more with us. But I am sure, she has found a better place in heaven. Sr. Vandhana, you were an inspiration for me even those few days. You lived by prayer, and you have imparted in me the power of prayer. Remember me, when you meet Jesus.“Night is the promise of morning; night holds the key to dawn. Hope is a moment, em-bedded with stars that shine when one beloved is gone from us”

Life is the most precious gift! Our life is the gift from God to ourselves. This become an exchange of gift with God when we share this gift with others or even offer it entirely for others. In fact that is what God intends when He creates or gives life to each one of us.

When I think of the life of our Elsamma/Sr Vandana SSpS, this can be seen as a real fact, not just a wishful thinking or a theological or philosophical concept. I remember the words of St Irenaeus bishop of Lyons and one of the fathers of the Church from the sec-ond century, ‘the glory of God is in human’s being fully alive.’ The purpose of the whole creation is for the glory of God and the good or welfare of the whole creation especially of the whole humanity which is the crown of all creation. It is the humanity who has to protect, preserve and take care of the whole creation. Hence we bring glory to God when we love, serve and bring joy to others especially to the poor and needy.

I can surely say that Sr Vandana completely dedicated her life to bring joy and hope to the people entrusted to her care and all those came across her weather children, young or old. For her serving and bringing joy to them was equal to bringing glory to God. She was able to see God in and through their lives. In that case she was also an advocate of justice and truth and very much committed for that cause. She was full of kindness, compassion and love. Sr Vandana was a person of order and perfection. She always loved to see things done in time.

She didn’t believe in doing big things to achieve worldly fame and name. But just like St Theresa of Calcutta said: “God doesn’t care about how great things you did, but how you did even the little things with great love”. Exactly that was Sr Vandana. She tried to do everything with complete dedication. All the responsibilities and duties as a religious that was entrusted to her she did with at-most care and love.

She was a person of prayer. All her life was inspired by her close relationship with God in prayer. She used a lot of time in praying for others especially for those sick, suffering, broken and troubled in different ways. Even when she was seriously sick and in pain she used to pray for others and enquire about the wellbeing of others. During the last few months of her life when she lost her eye sight she never complained about it on the other hand she found the inner light through the presence of God and praying for the problems of others. During her sufferings she found peace and comfort in listening to the hymns and preaching of the word of God.

Remembering her life - all the good she did, the unselfish love with which she loved

everyone, the faith and the prayer life with which she was motivated in her life and kept her connected with God, and her love and commitment to her religious community and to the religious life - we can surely say together with St Paul, that She, “I poured out my life as a libation ..., kept up my faith, fought a good fight, finished my race, and now I am worthy to receive the crown the Lord has prepared for me.”(2Tim. 4 : 6 - 8)

Let us pray that the Good Lord will crown Sr Vandana with the crown of glory prepared for her from/for all eternity!

I am Ansamma, the younger sister of Sr.Vandana.SSpS. We were nine years apart in age, having two of our brothers ,Augutine and Fr.Jose in between us. As far as my memory could reach back in the past, Chechi was holding my hand and leading me to Church, school, playground, brookside and wherever I had gone. Who was Chechi to me? Of course she was a good friend and a watchful guardian in all walk of my life. She knew all my likes and dislikes. I missed her a lot when she left home to offer her life to God and joined Holy Spirit Convent. But she never forgot the important days in my life like Birthdays, Anniversaries, or festive days. She was always the first one to call and greet me and pray for me. Every time she wrote letters and mailed when we had no access to phone or modern communication systems. She was the one and only sister to me, who knew nothing but love. I was very much attached to her. She joined us in our joy and sorrows. She had a pleasing and graceful appearance, with a smile affixed to her lips. She sustained in prayers. She dedicated her life to pray for others. God Almighty had given her life as a gift to us. She endeavored to share her life as a gift to others. There were some qualities in her which fascinated me. Punctuality was the one she kept as her fourth vow in her life. Perfection and cleanliness gave added color to her personality. In her ministry of service she was compassionate to patients, poor and downtrodden. She strived hard to see the face of God in all of them. Love, compassion and mercy were the preface of her service. She loved and respected her parents. She led a life of gratitude to God and fellow beings. I think the words of St.Paul are quite apt in this context. "Be joyful always, pray at all times, be thankful in all circumstances ". (Thes.5:16-18)Hope in Almighty God lead her in the life. In her sickbed she found joy in praying for others. Even during her last days she took the burden of praying for all."Consider that what we suffer at this present time cannot be compared at all with the glory that is going to be revealed to us. "(Rom.8.18)These words enlightened her in her final hours and she entrusted her soul in the hands of God without any complaint.I earnestly pray that she may enjoy the eternal bliss seeing God face to face in Heaven. "Rajuooo....."Whenever chechi addressed me by name I felt as if she had much more to express than her comprehensive dialogues. Her voice was double dynamic and a metallic sound smear as if a piece of gold fell on the floor. Her smile was incredibly beautiful. Even in her sickbed when she recognized me, her outshining smile washed away my anxiety at Layola Hospital, Kalinga vihar on 9th November 2018.When I recollect my personal experience with Chechi ,I would like to highlight her trilateral attitudes. First of all her fidelity towards faith and prayer. She always found strength in prayers. I recall that whenever our family took a long ride, Chechi was very particular in asking us to inform her so that she could pray ardenly for safe journey and come back home. I had been working as a Government Official and once there was an audit which I felt exhaustive. I requested for prayer and Chechi began to pray for the successful completion of audit. The audit was closed within 4 days without any hitch and I relaxed ever before. But after a fortnight Chechi enquired me whether the audit was over so that she could subrogate her prayer for my another specific intention. On that occasion I really felt guilty of not informing the closure of the audit and for prolonged sacrifice she endured. In every instance whether it was exam, sickness or life challenge every time Chechi insisted to pray." pray, pray and again you pray".The secondary attitude Chechi followed throughout her life was her thanksgiving behaviour. Her dignified character always textures with thanks giving. For even small favours she expressed gratitude and obliged to benefactors. From such attitude, I learned from her most of the names of religious sisters of SSpS lived with her in Jharsuguda, Bombay and Bhubaneswer. Finally she had never shown discomfort in any situation and was happy always to under-take any task that her vow demanded. Obedience, Poverty and Chastity were carried out successfully in her life. She was happy to refrain from any comfort that might challenge her vows. After the detection of her ailments, when she had come for holidays once, we had tried to persuade her to return by flight and the expense could well be met by family

but she refused it and told that they were not supposed to do so.The three things Chechi hated to experience were segregation, opaque and living behind closed doors unattended. After the funeral when I had stood beside her Tomb ,helplessly and tears rolling down a logical question arose in my mind. How would Che-chi face those three dreadful situations there? But suddenly Holy Spirit enlightened me and I could feel that even though Chechi had entered in long asleep, she is in the eternal light of Jesus and on voyage to receive the crown of glory. The vacuum in the place of Chechi to pray for us every day is the biggest loss we feel now. But the fiery hope that Chechi is in heaven to intercede for us brings happiness. When I offer this write-up as a tribute to my beloved Chehi the passion persists in me to listen to the resounding of her call,"Rajuooo. .....".

Sr.Vandana needs no introduction, she was beloved of everyone. Her lovely smile was not less than medicine, healing the pain and filled everyone’s heart with love and happi-ness. She was a lady with golden heart. Each of her heartbeat was dedicated to help the needy and serve the Lord. Her hands have cured many and have saved many precious lives in her mission. She had taught us the true meaning of selfless service to God and humankind. I feel very lucky to spend some of the best moments with her. Her ideolo-gy and thinking has inspired me to be a better person. She has given metrue reason for living a good and meaningful life. I thank you dear Sr. Vandhu, from the bottom of my heart for making me a better person. Dear Sr. Vandana, wherever you, are you will be always be in my prayers. I pray to the Almighty to give you the reward. May you rest in Peace.

Yours well-wisher- Tulsinath Behera

Nursing staffs- she was a beautiful person in mind and body. I admired her beauty al-ways. She was a jovial person. Though sometime she got upset but she was fine with us in the very next moment. From her behavior here with us, I imagine that she was a very pleasant person where ever she was. She loved to drink coffee.

Sr. Marcella Lakra DC- Sr. Vandana accepted her suffering. I consider myself lucky to be with her in her last moments. She passed into eternity peacefully. She always called me “my friend” and greeted me with a beautiful smile. She was a loving sister.

Bidding farewell to Geneviva and Vandhana, in the same month of December, was and is still unbelievable and like a dream for me. But it is TRUE and REAL ! The fulfill-ment of Jesus’ promise - “…I am going to prepare a place for you. I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (Jn 14,2-3) This is the new dwelling for each of us and towards which we too travel.

We began our journey together in Holy Spirit Hospital, Mumbai as candidates in the SSpS family. After the first year of juniorate we parted our ways to different missions/studies. Looking back from those initial years until now, one thing common in both sis-ters is their SINGLE-MINDED ATTENTION TO GOD’S UNIQUE CALL. One could sense their fidelity to the entrusted responsibilities and rootedness in prayer, enveloped by a deep faith in the loving providence of God.Both of them came from traditional Christian families who radiated the Christian spirit of sharing, caring for one another and reaching out to the poor and marginalized with compassionate love.

As a candidate, my first impression of Geni was – an elder sister, mature, steady, self-con-fident and one who knew what she was up to. There was neatness and perfection in all what she was, mirroring her inner person. She generously helped us with our difficul-ties in Hindi language. As a tertian she was assigned to teach catechism in Don Bosco School, adjacent to Holy Spirit Hospital, while the rest of us worked in the hospital and convent. The message of the passing away of Geni in the morning of 10th December came as a shock; but to be at her side within 2 hours of her passing away into eternity, to touch the still warm body and to witness the peaceful smiling face, was indeed a privilege granted me. In a moment she was taken to the embrace of the loving Father in Heaven. Thank you Lord for the life lived in your name!

During a two weeks stay in Amlikhaman with Sr. Vandhana I could see and experience her spirit of dedication to mission as a nurse, letting go off her comforts. She was punc-tually present in the dispensary, instructing each patient with love and interest in their well-being. Most of them were hostel children who came for her loving and gentle touch which took away their aches and pains easily. She was firm and strict, grounded in the reality of life, living up to her principles but funny and humorous too with laughter and joy.

I had also the opportunity to meet Vandhana at several moments during her treatment. She tried her best to be faithful to the different levels of treatments in deep trust in the Divine, listening to the Spirit at each stage. From early October I could sense an urgency in Vandu to reach the Lord, her Master. She used to literally call Him and tell “come fast”.Amidst pain and restlessness, devotional music brought calm and peace to her. She used to comment while listening to the hymn, ‘Jesus’ love is flowing to us….let us remain in that love….’.While talking to her over the phone or on a visit to her if I men-tioned earlier events or persons, she would immediately tell me, “Shanti , give them my thanks’with a beautiful smile. Her expression of gratitude was so spontaneous and quick, and I wondered how she could speak so fast... She rejoiced in the goodness of the Lord even amidst pain and discomfort.Dear Sisters Geneviva and Vandhana, you have fulfilled the mission entrusted to you and the Lord has called you back to His Abode to be with Him. May your life be an inspiration to us !

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.” Helen Keller

This is a quote from an awe-inspiring woman named Hellen Keller, who regardless of-her inability to see, hear or even speak, felt the beauty of the world and lived on to make this world a better place to live.Everyone in this world has a different interpretation of beauty. Different things evoke different emotions in different people. Some might con-sider the sky filled with vibrant colours at the time of sunset as a miracle of nature- as if the God himself has painted the sky, at the same time for some this might be another natural phenomenon which occurs every day and therefore see no beauty in it. So beau-tycan be defined according to each ones experience.

Yes our life is beautiful, precious and a gift from God which cannot be described in words. Our life on earth is momentary and within the fraction of time it comes and goes. But what remains ultimately is life that we lived on earth leaves a mark in the life of others. We may not be able to see the person after they leave this world but the magnif-icence of life, the good memories and their love leaves footprints in our hearts.

It is very much true in the case of our beloved Srs. Genevive and Vandhana. They have created a vacuum in our midst but at the same they have filled our hearts with love. They are gone but their spirit lives on. The beautiful thing that once existed in the world now cannot be seen or even touched butwe feel with the heart.

Their life reminds us that we are here for a short time, with a special mission to com-plete. We are called by God tobe His ambassadors to bring the beauty of life, to radiate out His love and to send out the energy of peace of harmony.

Dear Srs. Genevive and Vandhana we miss you. You will live forever in our hearts. May you enjoy eternal bliss!

Death! Oh !I had no plan to write anything on this theme. In fact, I had ignored the reminders thinking I am not ready for it now. However, today as I had some free time thoughts of death peeped in me. Very often, when someone tells me of death of a person I ask how old is she or he? If the person is in the ripe age I feel consoled, with unconscious response I hear within me for example, it is time for him or her, it is law of the nature, one day all of has to go etc, in other words death of elderly or sick person is justified. Nevertheless, if it happens to be a child or young person, my reactions are very different. Why did God call him so early, why did it happen? What good comes from this untimely demise? There is no end for the question. I forget the fact that nobody has given me the right to judge the death of one person on time and another untimely. The day I am born, I begin the count down. My days on earth are fixed by the author of my life, though I don’t really think of it, and I can do nothing to change it. All that I can do is to be aware that I need to leave this world one day and prepare for it every day. It is not sufficient think of it when the liturgical readings reminds of it. What if God calls me home today? What will I take with me? Although I do not say it verbally at the subconscious level I feel that certain that death is not in the immediate future. What gives me this certainty? Is it denial of death? My unpreparedness to leave this world? I have not found the answer although I have posed this question a number of times. What stops me from living my each day as if it were the last day of my life? The quality of my life would have tremendously changed if I were to live each day with this conscious thought. When I heard the sudden demise of Sr.Genevive, I was taken aback. My dream of living eternally came crashing down. Our life is short and so often we make it shorter for silly reasons. “Our ego is our bur-den”, recently this phrase with very apt sculpture was posted in Whatsapp. Our ego cannot fight death, however superior it may be when death comes ego has to bend and surrender. The chances for making those around happy and loved are gone. The oppor-tunities to make our committed life meaningful through selfless giving would not repeat. Let us make it to live each day as if it were the last day of our live, sharing, loving and giving oneself and empting ourselves. Then our Lord to whom we have committed our lives, who have emptied Himself, totally for us on the cross will receive us to His King-dom with outstretched arms. Then we do not need to be afraid if on the last day for He would tell us “come blessed of my father, take possession of the kingdom prepared for you from the beginning of the world”.

LIFe! A mYsTerY UnToLD

Life is a treasure prized beyond measure! How can we repay the Lord for His Goodness to us? Our gift to the Lord could be!The best of that we can make of oneself.

We come into the world, not just to add a number; And pass out in slumber. We come for a reason,To make the world a better place. And become a person, who no one else can replace!

Our dear sisters, who have gone before us;Have taught us thus, that we must live life with a goal; And live each day, with full sway. When we follow the path of life which is narrow,Others will miss us in sorrow.

We are precious, since the Lord is gracious. We are not a lost memory,But a burning light,Whose wick shines ever bright!
