Feed the Future Bangladesh Nutrition Activity (BNA) Project

DAM- COVID-19 related activity report on July-Sep 2020 Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) is implementing a project named Feed the Future Bangladesh

Nutrition Activity at Patuakhali District. This project has been designed to empower and

support market and community actors to address underlying causes of malnutrition in the ZOI.

By the end of BNA, children under 5, pregnant and lactating women, and adolescents (girls and

boys) in the ZOI will be better able to meet their nutritional needs and practice healthier

behaviors. Mainly, optimal nutrition is fundamental to achieving USAID’s wider mission to end

extreme poverty and to promote resilient, democratic societies while advancing our national

security and prosperity.

The BNA will contribute to improvements in nutrition outcomes for children under 5, pregnant

and lactating women, and adolescents (girls and boys) in the country’s Feed the Future (FTF)

zone of influence (ZOI), which comprises 21 districts in Barisal, Dhaka, and Khulna Divisions.

Three results underwrite this goal: 1) consumption of nutritious, diverse, and safe diets by rural

households; 2) social and economic empowerment of women and adolescents; and 3) adoption

of improved water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). Achievement of improvements in all three

result areas is required to ultimately positively affect nutritional outcomes.

Dhaka Ahsania Mission works as an implantation Partner of Feed the Future Bangladesh

Nutrition Activity (BNA) project and during the COVID-19 pandemic situation, different

initiatives have been taken in different level. During the pandemic situation of COVID-19 related

and due to the pandemic situation; people are

facing a critical moment. BNA project has

the implemented areas in Patuakhali Sadar upazila, Mirzagonj Upazila and Kalapara Upazila.

situation in Bangladesh and Dhaka Ahsania Mission is working for implementation in the root

level of Patuakhali District. As, Growth center is the target area of BNA project and Corona virus

can be spread up easily in the mass gathering like growth center, so BNA may focus to ensure of

the safety in the Growth centers and it’s stake holders. Public transmission would be occurred if

the proper safety can’t be ensured. In consideration this issue, BNA has taken the initiative for

marking in front of the shops at 9 Growth centers which may ensure the social distance among

the customers, vendors and other people who come at market in different purposes. Minimum

3 feet distance had been ensured in the different parts of the growth centers and the vendors

Page 15: Dhaka Ahsania Mission Health Sector House: 152, Block: Ka

are influenced to maintain and ensure the social distance for safety among the customers as

well. The Market Management committee as well as other stake holders appreciated such kind
