YouandIwouldprobablynotweardirtysocksoverandoveragain,especiallyifcleanoneswereavailable! Kidsmightnotminditforadayortwobuteventheyhavetheirlimits! Thesameistruefordirtydishes. Canyouimagineservingdinnerondishesthatstillhaveremnantsofyesterdaysmaindishcoatingit?GodspeoplearetotallycleanbecauseofJesuspaymentonthecross,butmanywakeupeverydayandputonold,sinfulhabitsthatrobthemofjoyandfreedom. Thisactivitywillhelpyourchildrenexperiencehowcrazyitistobetotallycleanandyetclothedinfilth.

Preparation:Choosewhichactivityyouwanttodo,DirtySocksorDirtyDishes. Youcandobothifyoudlike! Makesureyouhavedirtysocksordishesreadyfortheactivity. Muddysocksfromlastweeksactivitywillworkreallywell!!Youwillneed:

1. Dirtydishesfromapreviousmeal.2. Dirtysocksforeachperson. Itsimportantthattheyreverydirty! Ifyouneedto

enhancetheirfilthfeelfree!3. Oneortwotubsofwarmsoapywaterandacoupletowels. ThisisfortheDirtySocks

activity. Ifbothparentsareparticipating,eachshouldhaveatub.4. PrintthestoryofTommyandtheSkunksoyoucanreadittothekids.

Gettingstarted: Ifyouredoingbothactivities,dotheDirtySocksActivityafterdinner.

Dirty DishesSetthedinnertablewithdishesfromlastnightsmeal. Callthefamilyfordinnerandwaitfortheirreaction! Playalongbyactingshockedthattheyhaveaproblemwitheatingondirtydishes.Eventuallygiveinandbringsomecleanplates.Overdinnertalkabouttheproblemofdirtydishes:

1. Whatswrongwithit?2. Whydonttheywanttoeatondirtyplates?3. Whatharmcoulditdo?

Dirty SocksMomandDadgoaroundtheroomwiththetubsofsoapywaterandtowelsandwasheveryonesfeet.Asyouredoingit,talkabouthowJesuswashedhisdisciplesfeet.Jesuswasshowingthemtheimportanceofservingothers,butitalsobecameareminderofhowJesuspaymentonthecrosswashesawayoursin.Bringoutthedirtysocks. Haveeveryonefindtheirsocksinthepile. Theyprobablywontwanttotouchtheirownsocksletalonesomeoneelses! Tellthemtheycanwashtheirhandsafterward!Askthemtoputthesockson. Somewillgoballisticoverthis. MydaughterwouldthrowafitifIforcedit! Thepointistotakethemtotheplacewheretheyfeelhowdisgustingitis(orwouldbe)towearfilthysocksoveracleanfoot.Asyouretalkingaboutputtingthesocksonask:

OverdessertreadthestoryofTommyandtheSkunk.Tommy and the Skunk

Tommywaseightyearsoldwhenhisfamilypackedthevananddrovefromthecitytohisgrandpasfarmforthesummer. Hethoughthedbeboredwithouthisfriendsorcomputergamesbutitturnedoutthatthefarmwastotallyawesome! Heplayedinthebarn,fishedinthepond,andexploredthewoodsbesidethepasture.

Tommylovedtheanimalsmostofall. Therewerehorses,cowsandchickensonthefarmandallsortsofcreatureswaitingtobediscoveredinthewoods! Oneday,however,hemetananimalhellneverforget.Thecreaturewasn'tverytall,butatthesightofitsblackfurandwhitestripefromthetipofitsnosetothetipofitsbushytail,mostpeopleturnandrun!Haveyouguessedwhatitwas?Askunk!!Tommydidn'tknowaboutskunks.Whenhestumbleduponthelittleblackandwhitecreatureallhesawwasacuteanimalthatlookedlikeapotentialpet.Hewalkedslowlytowardtheskunk,andsuddenly,youguessedit,Tommygotsprayed!ThatlittleskunkshotitsfowlsmellingspraydirectlyatTommy.Hiseyesbegantowaterandthesmellalmostmadehimsicktohisstomach.Heranawayfromtheskunkasfastashehislegswouldcarryhimbuthecouldnotrunawayfromthesmell.Hesmelledsobadlythathismomwouldn'tlethimanywherenearthefarmhouse!Theyfoundabigoldwashtubinthebarn,andshehelpedhimwashthesmelloffwithtomatojuiceandwater.Hismomtookhisclothesandthrewthemontheburnpilebehindthebarn.Ittookseveralbathswithlotsoftomatojuice,soap,andwaterbeforeTommyfeltcleanagainandthesmellwasfinallygone.

Whatwouldhavehappenedif,afterhewastotallyclean,Tommyhadpulledhisclothesofftheburnpileandputthembackon?Hewouldhavebeensmellyagain! Tommywasclean,buthisclothesweren't.Hewouldstillsmelllikeaskunkbecausehisclothessmelledlikeaskunk.Canyouimaginedoingsuchathing?AfterweacceptJesus'sacrificeforoursins,wearewashedcleanonceandforall.Butwhenwesinwefeeldirtyagain.
