As public servants, each of us supports the communities in which we live and work every day. It’s just the nature of our profession. The DFW Chapter of NIGP believes it is important to give back to our local communities and would like to kick off 2018 efforts with our April meeting in which we will be supporting N.E.E.D., North East Emergency Distribution.

Below you will find a wish list of items. Please bring items from the list (below) with you to the April Business meeting. We will be collecting the donated items and they will be delivered to N.E.E.D.

• North East Emergency Distribution is a Northeast Tarrant County faith-based non-profit organization whose sole mission is to provide short-term emergency assistance of food, clothing and financial support.

• Because their guidelines are flexible, they are in a position to give referrals, offer supplemental services for seniors, and display job postings for those out of work. In some cases, they can assist with work-related transportation needs. Donate money. All donations are tax deductible Donate food. Donate time and expertise.

For more information about N.E.E.D., check out http://www.need-tarrant.com/resources We are looking forward to growing this program and expanding beyond the quarterly monthly meetings, so we hope to hear your ideas.

Procurement Month 2018

It is that time of year again. Time to celebrate Purchasing Month. You still have plenty of time to implement some activities before the month is over. The month of March is set aside to recognize the important role of purchasing professionals. It is also a time to honor those individuals for the work they do for their governmental entities. The underlying theme for all activities during Procurement Month is the promotion and recognition of the field of Public Procurement. When we celebrate Procurement Month, we acknowledge an elite group of professionals that have made a difference in governmental efficiency and effectiveness. This month provides the opportunity to help educate elected officials, administrators, taxpayers and vendors about the procurement process and the admirable work you perform every day. Public purchasing professionals strive to provide efficient and effective use of taxpayer dollars. This month, we encourage you to recognize your entity's purchasing professionals by publicizing Purchasing Month within your agency. Invite end-users/departments to come by and meet the Purchasing Staff. Or hold a Meet and Greet. Invite departments to come by and meet the Purchasing Department, include a few refreshments or organize playful scavenger hunts, trivia games, networking games to a chocolate coined crash course in basic procurement. Enjoy…It’s all about you! Please send your photos/events to [email protected]

First Quarter 2018 Issue

A Message from the President I would like to thank the Chapter for giving me the opportunity to represent you as President of the DFW Chapter of NIGP for the next year. I have been part of the Executive Committee for a number of years, in many positions. I want to thank our past president Karen Bell for taking up the reins when Scott Aldridge had to step down due to a new job opportunity. Karen put in a lot of work in setting up the location/contract for our Chapter’s upcoming Lone Star Event and recruited our Chapter Secretary also. Her time and energy will lead to our chapter having a successful 2018 Lonestar Conference.

Just a bit of background for you. I have been in purchasing for the past 30 plus years. From working in the hospital warehouse to a Medical Buyer, to a State Purchaser, to a Buyer with City of Fort Worth, to my current position with the city of Arlington as a Purchasing Administrator. I love the job, but I know without continued seminars and education we facilitate with NIGP DFW Chapter my career would have been much different.

My goal in this position is to continue to encourage chapter member’s to attend the education seminars, our upcoming Lonestar Conference and continue to provide network opportunities needed to succeed within the profession of public procurement.

The Chapter does have a few committee vacancies in which we do not have help. The time commitment is very small, and many hands make light work. Please let myself, EJ, Mindy or Karen know if you can help us out.

All the Best to you all in 2018
