Understanding the Clinical Research Support navigation and PROTOCOL LIFECYCLE: The PROTOCOL LIFECYCLE visual on the Clinical Research Support landing page reflects the steps that researchers take to create, submit, have reviewed, activate, conduct, have overseen, publish, and closeout, a clinical trial through DF/HCC. The left-side menu reflects these steps, and expands to show needed policies, guidances, forms, templates, and other resources associated with each of these steps.

Using the “Search Clinical Research” function (vs. Using the Document Library) By entering keyword(s) into “Search Clinical Research” field, you will be searching not only the pages of the Clinical Research Support section, but results will also include documents associated with your search terms. NOTE: To search Clinical Research Support documents only (SOPs, forms, templates, etc.), click into the Document Library (instructions below).

This result will take you to a page where audit-related content can be found, including associated documents.

These results are PDF documents (there may also be Word, Excel, or PPT documents here). These will download or open in a window, depending on your computer settings.

Using the Document Library To locate specific documents using keywords and a filter-by-document-type menu, click the teal button titled “Document Library: Forms, SOPs, etc…” To view all SOP documents, all forms, all guidances, etc., leave the keyword field blank and select “DF/HCC SOPs,” “Forms,” “Guidances,” etc., respectively and click “Search.” To narrow your search, enter a keyword and/or select a document type and click “Search.” Selecting both a document type and entering a keyword may yield the best results. For example: To find the DF/HCC SOPs associated with multi-center clinical trials, enter “Multi Center” in the search field, select “DF/HCC SOPs” in the filter menu, and click “Search:”

SEARCH TIPS: • If your desired results are not showing, or the results are too vague, try expanding your search

terms to include additional keywords. • If you know the filename of your document, try entering the title. For example, you know the

filename is “2013_Institutional_DSMP.pdf,” type “2013 Institutional DSMP” into the search field and search.

• If you know the abbreviation of your SOP, try entering the abbreviation instead of entire words. For example: Search for “AUD-100” instead of “audit” for better results.

NOTE: The search capabilities on the DF/HCC website are superior to those of the previous DF/HCC website, allowing users to find pages and documents more efficiently. However, search results are not as targeted as those found in search engines such as Google, Bing, or Yahoo; there are limitations. If you are unable to find a document through the “Search Clinical Research” field, the Document Library, or by navigating pages, contact the Clinical Research Support Offices. Contact information is located in the “General Contact and Office Information” section:

You may add keywords and/or select a document type in the filter before clicking “Search” to narrow the results that show in the archive. Or, you may click “Search” and then use the keyword field and filter menu to narrow your results once in the Document Archive. NOTE: All archived documents will contain the word “Archived” in the filename. To return to the Document Library to search for active documents, click the “Return to Document Library” button in the Document Archive.
