summer program, camp, event, or club meeting.

the talents and creativity of the next generation while promoting the county’s largest positive youth development organization!

young person as a guest speaker or short-term instructor.
• Share your career path - invite a 4-H’er to shadow you for the day.
• Share your educational path / give a testimonial – how did you get to where you are?

10 Ways to Volunteer with 4-H No matter how much time you have, volunteer-ing with 4-H makes a difference by helping youth explore and discover skills they need to lead for a lifetime. There are lots of ways to get involved! Below are a few ideas. Contact your county extension office to get started! (580) 328-5351 1. HELP LEAD A CLUB • Assist a youth club leader with organizing
meetings, speakers, and other logistics. • Assist and/or mentor a 4-H volunteer who is
serving as a project leader. 2. TEACH A SKILL • Organize a club or share your skills by teaching
a club meeting workshop, devoted to your area of specialty.
3. JUDGE PROJECTS • Serve as a judge for 4-H exhibits, competitions,
or performances, providing encouragement and suggestions for improvement.
4. PLAN OR HELP AT AN EVENT • Volunteer at a county special event; from set-up
or clean-up to serving food or taking registra-tions, there are a lot of ways to get involved.
5. SERVE ON AN ADVISORY BOARD / COMMITTEE • Sit on a local advisory or county governing
board to help determine program priorities. 6. HELP WITH A SPECIFIC 4-H PROJECT • Advise a 4-H member in their project work:
help youth identify and set goals, create and im-plement a plan, and reflect on what they learned and would do differently next time.

County 4-H Food Show
The Food Show has been rescheduled for Friday, March 5th. Food items can be checked in Thursday afternoon or Friday morning (by 9:30 a.m.). Judging will begin at 10:30. See enclosed
flyer for specific classes and other information.
State Record books All 4-H members in grades 8-12 are encouraged to turn in a state record book. Several prizes and scholarships are awarded each year - based on state record books. There are new record book forms that must be used. Contact Jean at the county office for more infor-mation. Deadline to submit a book is April 19th.
Red Wheel Fundraiser
It’s time for the annual Dewey County Fund Raiser. The money raised provides sup-plies and awards for the county 4-H programs, events, and contests. It also help pay for Dew-ey County 4-H’ers to attend camp, leadership trainings and other 4-H trips plus, a percentage of all sales goes back to the local clubs. 100% of funds raised help Dewey County youth. Awards will be presented to the top three sales people and top sales club. Contact your local leader or the county ex-tension office to get your packet. All orders and money should be turned in by March 23rd
County 4-H Officers Meeting
March 8, 2021 The county 4-H officers meeting has been rescheduled for Monday, March 8 at the fair grounds, from 4:00 - 5:30. There will be snacks, team building/leadership activity, and a fun community service project. There will al-so be discussion about spring and summer events.
OYE Revised Gilt Show
OYE announced some changes in their hog show. The changes are briefly listed blow. Contact the extension office, your 4-H leader, or Ag teacher for more information. • Dates and show schedule for barrows remain the same. • Hog showmanship has been canceled. • Gilt show will be March 24-27. • Any gilts or exhibitors found in barns
6,7,8, 9 during the gilt show will automati-cally be disqualified.
• Refunds for gilts are available until March 5th.
• If you qualify for the sale, you must sell.

Note: Duds to Dazzle is a new contest: Teams of 2-3 members will receive a sack with a fab-ric item. Then the team will have about one hour to repurpose the item into a useful item. Sewing and construction skills will be helpful.

Guidelines
• Entries must be checked in by 9:30 a.m. on March 5th.
• All entries should be labeled on the bottom with name and class number.
• Individuals may enter one entry in each class.
• Each class will be awarded a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, place
• An overall champion and reserve champion will be selected in each age division.
• All items must be prepared by the exhibitor.
• Exhibits will be released at the conclusion of the food show.
Class of Cookie Description Examples
Drop Made from a soft dough and dropped by spoonfuls onto bak-ing sheets
Chocolate chip, oatmeal, macaroons
Rolled Made from a stiff dough that is rolled out using a rolling pin and cut into shapes with a cookie cutter
Gingerbread men, some sugar cookies
Shaped / hand molded A stiff dough is rolled between the hands to form a ball and/or shaped using a mold or other shape or tool (fork, cookie stamp, bottom of a glass)
Peanut butter, snicker-doodles, almond crescents, some biscotti cookies
Pressed A stiff dough is forced through a cookie press into decora-tive shapes
Spritz, spritzgeback
Refrigerator or icebox Made from stiff dough that is rolled into a log, chilled, sliced, and baked

Dewey County 4-H members are being challenged to stay active in 4-H as we progress through the year. Below are ten activities you can choose from. Members are encouraged to select a minimum of one 4-H activity per month. Fill out the chart and send it to the extension office by March 20th. Prizes will be awarded for the most points earned.

• Junior (3rd-5th grades) • Intermediate (6th-8th grades) • Senior (9th-12th grades)
(Fashion Revue has 4 grade divisions- 3rd & 4th/5th & 6th/7th & 8th/9th-12th) Entry forms and detailed contest information packets are available from the county extension office or your local club leader. The entry fee is $10 per member for the day (no matter how many events are entered) except there is a $10 team entry fee for Robotics. All entries are due to the Dewey County Extension Office by March 25, 2021.

Dr Ron and Linda Sholar Essay Contest
Oklahoma 4-H and the Oklahoma 4-H Foundation are pleased to announce the 2021 Dr. Ron and Linda Sholar 4-H Essay Contest. Who: 4-H members who are in 8th - 12th grade and ACTIVE in 4-H Online. What: Dr Ron and Linda Sholar Essay Contest When: Essays are due to the State 4-H Awards Data Base on April 26th, 2021 by NOON. All entries become property of Oklahoma 4-H. Application includes: Dr Ron and Linda Sholar Essay Contest application (must have all appropriate signatures), essays of 850-1,000 words on the topic “ How can Oklahoma 4-H Change a Community?” and a scanned headshot of the 4-H member. Prizes: First place cash prize of $500. Second place cash prize of $300. Third place cash prize of $200.
