Situation prior to 2001

- Approximatly 120 officers on 4-day in-house course annualy

- Total annual training costs US$252,000 (US$2,900 per vessel)

Situation today

- All officers onboard receive their own personal RAST CD.

- Only ’super-users’ are attending shore-based courses (Chief Engineer and 2nd Engineer)

- Annual Costs for shore-based courses is reduced to US$84,000 (US$1000 per vessel)

- (Initial development cost of the CBT: US$85,000

Annual saving each vessel: US$1,900
