We intend to show the development of new live line working tools, that we were forced to develop, when moving on live line working (LLW) from 13.2 kV. to 33 kV. systems. Some problems and security issues where found when moving to a higher voltage level, such as:

• The equipment available in the company was for distribution systems of 13.2 kV instead of 33 kV., exceptfor the insulated trucks,

• Increase of the safety level. Some crews were using tools originally designed for 13.2 kV., on 33 kVsystems,

• Customs tools, some crew developed his own custom tools.

• The economic factor, the company didn´t have enough budget for the acquisition of new tools.

• Aerial insulated bucket trucks, available in the company, didn´t have the auxiliary arm.

1. Temporary Conductor Support for Pin type insulators.

2. Temporary Conductor Support for suspensions.

3. Double insulated jumper hanger

Three tools were developed with the assistance and engineering of TYRCO

1. Temporary Conductor Support for Pin type insulators.

Problems The conductors cannot be hold to make the change of the insulators, because the insulated trucks did not have any auxiliary arm “plumin” that would allow them to the support the conductors while working.

Problems & considerationsThis tool was developed based on the standard insulator hanger When using the hanger, the linesman asks for the possibility to add another clamp at the end to hold the conductors or jumper cables giving the tool a wide range of application, adding safety and simplifying the tasks.

The purpose of this paper was to demonstrate how working together the users and the manufacturer, it

is possible to:

✓ Improve and simplify the work,

✓ Increasing safety

✓ Reducing time.

Usually we see in the crews some homemade tools that are useful at work but as a recommendation for

users who develop their own tools, we suggest always to consult with a manufacturer, who is the most

suitable to design and build this type of tools.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

We wish to thank to the working group of LLW of ENERSA, Javier Berasategui, Hugo Alasino,

Ambrosio Urrutia and Luis Garmendia, and the engineers from TYRCO S.A., that without their support

the development of these tools would not have been possible.
