CADE 325 BROADCAST SPEECH AND PERFORMANCE FOR COMMUNITY RADIO – 3 units (3 hours per week). Announcing, voicing, recording and directing techniques for community radio programs. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Community Broadcasting CADE 211 FUNDAMENTALS OF COMMUNITY BROADCASTING – 3 units (3 hours per week). Concepts of radio broadcasting, nature of the broadcast media, principles of broadcast writing, program planning and production. Prerequisite: Introduction to Multimedia Writing CADE 311 COMMUNICATION, CULTURE AND SOCIETY – 3 units (3 hours lecture per week). A critical analysis of how the communication media affect and shape the sociocultural, political and economic structures and systems and how these ecosystems also shape media structures and processes including their impact on media users/audiences. Prerequisite: Introduction to Development Communication CADE 331 COMMUNICATION INTERNSHIP – 3 units (3 hours per week). Practicum/on-the job training in development communication and its specializations (community broadcasting, development journalism, educational communication, science communication, health and environmental communication, and media ministry) in development-oriented or media organization/projects. Prerequisite: Junior Standing CADE 231 COMMUNICATION MEDIA LAWS AND ETHICS – 3 units (3 hours per week). Principles underlying freedom of expression, information, and of the press; statutes dealing with communication media and their operations; case studies, issues and problems on regulatory and self-regulatory mechanisms including professional codes of ethics. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Community Broadcasting CADE 321 INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNICATION RESEARCH – 3 units (3 hours per week). The course follows the large class mode of two-unit lecture and one-unit recitation. Hence, there are two hours of lecture and one hour of recitation per week. CADE 317 COMMUNICATIVE DEVELOPMENT – 3 units (3 hours per week). A course on human/community development through the concepts of synergistic communication theory, advocating human rights, human dignity, freedom of thought, and expression; improving people’s quality of life through communicative spirit of love, unity, an cooperation. Prerequisite: Introduction to Development Communication; Purposive Communication CADE 421 COMMUNICATION PROGRMAS AND CAMPAIGNS – 3 units (3 hours per week). Principles and strategies on how to develop evidence-based and results-oriented communication programs and campaigns. It covers the planning process, elements of communication plan, and measuring effects and impacts. Prerequisite: Senior Standing / Certification of Instructor CADE 323 CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION – 3 units (3 hours per week) Theories, conceptual and practical dimensions of communication within and between various cultures. Prerequisite: Communication, Culture and Society CADE 132 FUNDAMENTALS OF DEVELOPMENT JOURNALISM – 3 units (3 hours per week). Principles of gathering data/information and writing news and feature stories on development issues in various media platforms. Prerequisite: Introduction to Development Communication CADE 212 FUNDAMENTALS OF EDUCATIONAL COMMUNICATION AND TECHNOLOGY – 3 units (3 hours per week). Theories, principles and concepts of educational communication and technology; practice in planning and designing of media- based learning system. CADE 423 ENVIRONMENTAL COMMUNICATION – 3 units (3 hours per week). Application of development communication principles, methods and strategies to environment protection and management. It is designed to train students to become practitioners of communication for a sustained environmental advocacy, with the goal to change the public’s perception and behavior toward the environment. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Science Communication CADE 313 HEALTH COMMUNICATION – 3 units (3 hours per week). Designed to introduce students to communication as applied to health care. This covers concepts, principles and practice of health communication for the delivery of health care services, health promotion, risk communication and policy development. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Science Communication CADE 322 INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION AND PARTICIPATORY DEVELOPMENT – 3 units (3 hours per week). Theories, principles, concepts and processes of person-to-person communication and their application to participatory development work. Prerequisite: Intro to Development Communication

CADE 111 INTRODUCTION TO DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION – 3 units (3 hours lecture per week). Course Description: Introduction to concepts, theories, principles, and practice of communication in development. Prerequisite: None CADE 412 KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT – 3 units (3 hours per week). The course follows the large class mode of two-unit lecture and one-unit recitation. Hence, there are two hours of lecture and one hour of recitation per week. Principle, processes and strategies of capturing, analyzing, storing and sharing knowledge with an organization. These elements are facilitated by ICT. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Science Communication or COI CADE 324 MANAGEMENT AND PRODUCTION OF COMMUNITY NEWSPAPER – 3 units (3 hours per week). Principles and practice of managing and producing community newspaper. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Development Journalism CADE 314 MASS MEDIA EVANGELISM – 3 units (3 hours per week). Application of communication theories and skill to evangelism through mass media particular print, radio and television. Prerequisite: Introduction to Multimedia Writing CADE 122 INTRODUCTION TO MULTIMEDIA WRITING – 3 units (3 hours per week). Principles and practice preparing written materials for the print, broadcast and audio-visual media. Prerequisite: Introduction to Development Communication CADE 463 MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTION – 3 units (3 hours per week). Production audio-visual presentations and other multimedia projects using digital media and hypermedia, for different audiences and for different purposes. Prerequisite: Introduction to Multimedia Writing CADE 473 ORGANIZATIONAL COMMUNITY – 3 units (3 hours per week). Principles and practices of communicating within the organization; theoretical and empirical underpinnings of communication in organizations. Prerequisite: Communication, Culture and Society CADE 413 PHOTOGRAPHY IN DEVELOPMENT – 3 units (3 hours per week). The photograph as a communication medium; practice in photographic composition, techniques and digital processing. Prerequisite: Fundaments of Educational Communication and Technology CADE 442 PUBLICATION WRITING AND EDITING – 3 units (3 hours per week). Preparation and processing of extension and other informational publications, including the mechanics of layout, copy reading copy fitting and use of illustrations. Prerequisite: Introduction to Multimedia Writing CADE 312 FUNDAMENTALS OF PUBLIC INFORMATION – 3 units (3 hours per week). Theories, principles, concepts, and strategies in communicating public and government issues and programs on development. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Development Journalism CADE 424 RADIO DRAMA AND DOCUMENTARY - 3 units (3 hours per week). Prepares students to develop a pay structure that would determine the worth of the job so that an equitable rate of pay can be determined for each job to improve employee performance. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Community Broadcasting

CADE 315 RISK, DISASTER AND HUMANITARIAN COMMUNICATION – 3 units (3 hours per week). The process of communicating effectively with vulnerable stakeholders prior to, during, and after the onset of risk situations. It also seeks to familiarize students with communication strategies used in humanitarian aid operation which contribute to the protection of people and property in times of disasters or emergencies. Prerequisite: Introduction to Development Communication / COI CADE 222 FUNDAMENTALS OF SCIENCE COMMUNICATION – 3 units (3 hours per week). An introductory course on one of the domains of Development Communication, which is Science Communication. This covers concepts, principles of and practices in communicating science for development. Prerequisite: Fundaments of Educational Communication and Technology CADE 471 SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL INFORMATION PROCESSING – 3 units (3 hours per week). Study on processing and interpreting scientific and technical information for the utilization of scientists, science communication practitioners and its intended consumer. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Science Communication CADE 472 TECHNICAL WRITING AND EDITING – 3 units (3 hours per week). Principles and techniques of educational video production. Prerequisite: Fundaments of Educational Communication and Technology CADE 316 WEB JOURNALISM – 3 units (3 hours per week). Theory and practice of writing for and developing websites. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Development Journalism CADE 453 WRITING AND PROGRAM PLANNING FOR COMMUNITY RADIO – 3 units (3 hours per week). Principles and practices of writing and program planning for radio, from the technicalities of group brainstorming for the program theme to every detail of the program elements. CALA 211 INTRODUCTION TO ENGLISH LANGUAGE SYSTEM – 3 units (3 hours per week). This course is an introduction to the English language system. CALA 212 THORIES OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE ACQUISITION – 3 units (3 hours per week. This three-unit course, taught via teacher and student teaching demonstrations and observations, familiarizes the future English teacher with contemporary principles and strategies which facilitate and maximize language acquisition and use. CALA 213 HISTORY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE – 3 units (3 hours per week). This course explains the external (historical, political, cultural forces) and internal (changes in the language features) histories of the English language. CALA 221 ENGLISH PHONOLOGY AND MORPHOLOGY – 3 units (3 hours per week). This course is a study of English phonology and morphology. CALA 222 ENGLISH SYNTAX – 3 units (3 hours per week). This course deals with the study of English syntax. CALA 223 SEMANTICS OF ENGLISH – 3 units (3 hours per week). This course deals with the study of English semantics. CALA 311 ENGLISH DISCOURSE – 3 units (3 hours per week). This course deals with the unique and distinct qualities of English discourse. CALA 312 STYLISTICS – 3 units (3 hours per week). This course focuses on the study, description, and analysis of the styles of various sample literary and non-literary texts by the principles of literary criticism as well as the principles of linguistic analysis. CALA 322 COMPUTER-MEDIATED COMMUNICATION – 3 units (3 hours per week). This course deals with how knowledge and principles of computers affect and utilized in some communication situations. It also explains the language of computers. CALA 411 THESIS 1: METHODOLOGY – 3 units (3 hours per week). The course trains student to analyze and develop strategies needed in collecting, gathering information and writing a language research. CALA 421 THESIS 2: LANGUAGE RESEARCH – 3 units (3 hours per week). The course trains students to write a language research, particularly chapters 4 and 5. CALA 315 ELT APPROACHES AND METHODS – 3 units (3 hours per week). This three-unit course, taught via teacher and student teaching demonstrations and observations, familiarizes the future English teacher with contemporary principles and strategies which facilitate and maximize language acquisition and use. CALA 316 INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION – 3 units (3 hours per week). This course deals with the knowledge, principles and practice of instructional materials development and evaluation. CALA 323 BUSINESS COMMUNICATION – 3 units (3 hours per week). This course deals with the principles and practices of business communication to help the students develop a disciplined flow of thought in the writing of business letters. CALA 324 TECHNICAL WRITING – 3 units (3 hours per week). This course deals with the principles and practices of scientific writing to help the students develop a disciplined flow of thought in the writing of technical and scientific reports and essays. CALA 326 LANGUAGE AND JOURNALISM – 3 units (3 hours per week). This is an introductory course to the language of the various forms of mass media: newspapers, magazines, radio, television, advertising, public relations, and cinema. CALA 315 LITERARY CRITICISM – 3 units (3 hours per week). This course deals with the principles and practice of literary criticism with emphasis on the application of literary theories on selected literary texts. CALA 327 CONTEMPORARY PHILIPPINE LITERATURE IN ENGLISH – 3 units (3 hours per week). The course is a survey of the different types and genres of contemporary Philippine literature in English. CALA 412 ASIAN LITERATURE – 3 units (3 hours per week). This course is a survey of the literature of India, China, Japan and other countries of Asia with emphasis on the contemporary types.

CALA 413 LATIN –AMERICAN LITERATURE – 3 units (3 hours per week). This course is a survey of the literature of the Latin-American countries with emphasis on how such some literary texts shape the Latin-American psyche. CALA 414 BIBLICAL LITERATURE – 3 units (3 hours per week). This course deals with the study of the Bible as literature with its concord of devices and linguistics. COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

HIST 326 ETHNIC HISTORIES – 3 units. The course deals with the study of the evolution and structures of the cultural groups that compromise the totality of the Filipino nation. HIST 321 HISTORY OF EAST ASIA – This course offers an overview OF THE HISTORIES OF China, Korea and Japan. It is designed to introduce students to methodological aspects of the study of history in general to provide the chronological framework of the East Asia region. The course will encompass the entire development of East Asia’s civilizations, although the emphasis will be on the early modern and modern periods. HIST 225 HISTORICAL METHODOLOGY – 3 units. This course discusses the historical methodology as a tool for research. Its aim is to expose the students to the different sources of historical information that could be used in writing history, including written accounts, works of arts, oral history and other human constructs that could help historians reconstruct past events. It teaches the students how to evaluate the credibility and authenticity of a particular document and the parameters that classify a scholarly work in the discipline of history. The course also discusses styles of historical writing and the mechanics of documentation. HIST 324 HISTORY OF AFRICA – 3 units. The course centers its study on the development of Africa from the earliest beginning up to the present, with special emphasis on the socio-cultural and political aspects. It attempts to link the present to the past by considering the pageant of events that shaped the nation’s history and provide the students a better view of the direction it takes towards the future. It also covers a broad approach in understanding of the role of the Africa in the International Community considering the variety of its culture. HIST 324 MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY EUROPE – 3 units. This course covers the historical developments that transpired from the industrial revolution to contemporary period in Europe. HIST 411 MODERN EAST ASIA – 3 units. The course will provide an overview of the modern histories of China, Korea and Japan, focusing on the cultural, political and economic relations among these three countries, on the arrival of Western powers and the challenges posed by distinctly foreign cultures, and on their response to such intrusions. The course ends with the major development of the 20th century- the rise of the People’s Republic of china under a socialist regime, the rise of Japan as an imperial. Military and economic power, the emergence of the two Koreas, and the interactions between East Asia and Southeast Asia as they affect development within the region and relations among these countries. HIST 211 PHILIPPINE NATIONALISM AND REVOLUTION – 3 units. This course provides the students with an in depth analysis of the background and growth of Philippine Nationalism. The mainstream of the study is to trace the development of Filipino Nationalism and the struggle for nationhood, which eventually led to independence. HIST 112 PHILOSOPHY OF HISTORY – 3 units. This course will discuss the philosophical and theoretical foundations of the discipline of history. It will start with a brief

overview of the evolution of historiography from the time of the Greeks down to contemporary times. It will identify leading historians and their contributions to development of the discipline. The course aims to expose the students to different historical frameworks and their applicability in various historical researches. HIST 413 PRE-16th CENTURY PHILIPPINES – 3 units. The course will look into the formation of indigenous communities in the Philippines from Prehistoric. HIST 414 REGIONAL AND LOCAL HISTORY – This course is a study of local and regional history. It deals with particular history of places like barangay; municipality or a province. Furthermore, it looks into particular tradition/s in locality. It is a research oriented discipline-utilizing various tools in research. HIST 223 SURVEY OF ASIAN CIVILIZATIONS – 3 units. The course is a survey of civilizations which originated and flourished in West, South, East, Southeast and North Central Asia, looking briefly at their social organizations, religious beliefs and systems, economics, and dominant cultural features. HIST 314 SURVEY OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION – 3 units. This course is the survey of the history of Western Civilization, beginning with its Graeco-Roman foundations, the rise and spread of Christianity, Islamic and Byzantine legacies, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and Reformation, and the transition to modern period with the rise of nation states. The course is intended to provide a broad knowledge of Western civilization to serve as introduction to more specialized courses on Western civilization. HIST 412 WORLD GEOGRAPHY – 3 units. This course deals with the study of world’s geography seeking to understand the characteristics of particular places on earth’s surface. It is concerned with the arrangement of the things that distinguishes one area from one area from one another. It will not only cover the physical but also the social, political, and economic aspects of geography with emphasis on the Philippines. HIST 212 HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES – 3 units. A survey of United States history with emphasis on social, economic, and political issues up through the Civil War. HIST 124 INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY AND WRITING OF HISTORY – 3 units. This course will focus on the meaning and relevance of history and the important the historians play in the society. It will discuss the primary activities of the historians, heir assumptions and imitations, and their social responsibility, to the society. It will train students to evaluate evidence, organize information, clarify and structure concepts, and write historical narratives. The course will also discuss the leading contemporary schools of thought in history and the problems that inform the interpretation and writing of history. HIST 411 ISLAMIC HISTORY AS GLOBAL HISTORY – 3 units. The course is intended to provide a general knowledge of the history of Islam, its beliefs and worldview. HIST 224 ISLAND SOUTHEAST ASIA – 3 units. The course is the surveys of the histories of the countries that comprise island Southeast Asia (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines

and Singapore) from its earliest beginning to their rise into modern nation states after the end of the colonial period. Indian and Chinese cultural influences and trade relations will also be discussed as well as the introduction of Islam and Western (European/ American) influences through the colonial period. The end of the colonial and the rise of independent nation states in the 20th century will also be studied, as well as the relations among these states and the other countries in the region in contemporary times. HUHI 212 LIFE, WORKS AND WRITINGS OF RIZAL – 3 units. The course deals with the study of the life and works of the great Filipino hero, his deals, thoughts, and contributions to the development of the Filipino nation. HIST 311 MAINLAND SOUTHEAST ASIA – 3 units. This course is the survey of the histories of the countries that comprise Mainland Southeast Asia (Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Kampuchea, and Vietnam) from its earliest beginnings to their rise into modern nation states after the end of the colonial period. It will discuss the influences of Hinduism/Buddhism and the rise of classical states as well as the impact and consequences of the colonization of European empires and the resulting development of anti-colonial nationalist and independence movements. Particular attention will be given to the Thailand which, among European colonial rule. The course will also look at the contemporary developments in the region especially in view of the formation as ASEAN which underlies the relations among the various countries of Southeast Asia. HUHI 211 ETHICS – 3 units. The course deals with principles of ethical behavior in society at the level of the person, society, and in interaction with the environment and other shared resources. HUHI 221 READINGS IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY – 3 units. Philippine History viewed from the lens of selected primary sources in different periods, analysis and interpretations. HUHI 221 THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD – 3 units. The course introduces students to the contemporary world by examining the multifaceted phenomenon of globalization. Using the various disciplines of the Social Sciences, it examines the economic, social, political, technological, and other transformations that have created an increasing awareness of the connectedness of peoples and places around the globe. HIST 415 THESIS I – 3 units. The course will equip the students with the needed knowledge and behavioral skills in the conduct of a historical research. The student will be guided to produce as a thesis proposal by the end of the period. HIST 428 THESIS II – 3 units. The course will orient the students on the implementation of a thesis proposal. The student will be guided to implement the research instrument, treat the data and finally present the paper. HIST 246 PRACTICUM – 3 units. The course will orient the students on how they are expected to behave in the classroom. The students through the guidance of the teacher will then be deployed to a pre-selected practicum venue.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

CAMX 311 CHORAL CONDUCTING – 3 units. The course understands the historical and philosophical foundations of music education. It also explores the issues and relevant literatures that inform and challenge music educators in the context of a diverse and changing culture. CAMC 325 COUNTERPOINT – 2 units. This course is about the technique of writing independent melodic lines to create effective music. The student explores the mechanics of basic contrapuntal technique. It is essential knowledge for songwriters, composers and musicians who want to strengthen their skills in composition. CAMY 221 MUSIC TECHNOLOGY LABORATORY – 1 unit. An introduction to music technology software and hardware that focuses on basic acoustics, digital audio and MIDI. Students will complete independent projects in areas such as digital audio, music notation and MIDI sequencing. The business side of music is also discussed. MUTH 411 COMPOSITION – 3 units. This course teaches basic skills in composing either a song or an instrumental piece. This encourages creativity and originality in style when composing. CAMO 411 CHORAL ARRANGING AND ORCHESTRATION – 3 units. This course examines strategies and technique for arranging music for choir and instrumental ensembles such as chamber groups or orchestra. A recital that features the students’ arrangements culminates the course. CAML 421 PEDAGOGY AND LITERATURE ON APPLIED INSTRUMENTS – 3 units. This course equips the student with the effective teaching techniques of individual instruments as well as their history and rich literature. CAML 421 UNIVERSITY CHOIR/ORCHESTRATION – 0 unit. These courses explore the performances of essential literature for large ensembles such as the choir and orchestra. It also gives opportunities for students to perform during official events of the university. CAMX 322 CHORAL CONDUCTING 2 WITH CHORAL LITERATURE – 3 units. This course is a study of specialized techniques of conducting and rehearsal applicable to young singers. It also includes reading and study of choral scores with application via recordings and laboratory experience with choral ensembles. Moreover, this course surveys choral music literature from the perspective of historically significant masterworks and the utilitarian perspective of appropriateness for particular types of ensembles. CAME 222 MUSIC IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – 3 units. Methods of teaching music in elementary school. Includes the development of teaching materials and repertoire. CAME 313 MUSIC IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL – 3 units. This course provides students with opportunities to develop basic teaching and planning skills, necessary for high school music teachers today and be able to develop familiarity with available materials, methods and resources.

CAME 324 MUSIC EDUCATION METHODOLOGY – This course dwells on the different music methodologies in teaching that aims to equip students in exploration of different methods, approaches, and pedagogical techniques, trends in teaching music to different levels of classes from preschool to high school; through observation, analysis and development of different music materials and strategies in teaching music. CAME 426 STUDENT TEACHING IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – 3 units. A course that trains the students in teaching music in the elementary level by applying their knowledge and musical skills that they acquired during the students early training in several instructional settings such as general music, instrumental and vocal ensembles across the level in the elementary, with the assistance of college supervisor, cooperating school and cooperating teacher. This includes observation and participation in preparation for actual teaching. CAME 415 STUDENT TEACHING IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL – 3 units. A course that trains the students in teaching music in the secondary level by applying their knowledge and musical skills that they acquired during the students early training in several instructional settings such as general music, instrumental and vocal ensembles across the level in the secondary, with the assistance of college supervisor, cooperating school and cooperating teacher. This includes observation and participation in preparation for actual teaching. CAME 415 METHODS OF RESEARCH IN MUSIC EDUCATION – This course includes different kinds of research traditions, site and participant selection, data collection and analysis methods, quality standards, and research ethics. The students will conduct an original research study on different fields of music. CAML 421 PIANO PEDAGOGY – This course equips the student with knowledge and skill on how to teach piano effectively and successfully. The course includes methods of teaching piano, appropriate materials, and techniques for all levels, literature etc. It will also prepare and train them to be capable and qualified piano pedagogue in the future. CAMJ 111L APPLIED INSTRUMENT 1 (GUITAR) – 2 units. This is the beginner’s course that teaches the student the fundamental operations in making the guitar sound. It then discusses all the details of reading the standard music notation. The minimal exam repertoire requirement for this level consists of pieces exhibiting the following technique: single note playing using thumb and fingers in the first position, simple arpeggios, 2 note & 3 note chords, free and rest strokes in the upper register of the 1st and 2nd strings, and damping technique. CAMJ 122L APPLIED INSTRUMENT 2 (GUITAR) – 2 units. This course introduces the students to standard classical guitar literature with the works of prominent classical guitar composers such as Milan, Sor, Giuliani, Tarrega, Brouwer as well as transcriptions of J.S. Bach. The minimal exam repertoire requirement for this level consists of pieces exhibiting the following technique: polyphonic works in 2 voices, hammer-ons and pull-offs, vibrato, arpeggios, upper position notes, dynamics, tempo, the use of metronomic markings, full and partial bars, and harmonics (natural and artificial).

This course teaches acoustic guitar techniques and styles to make the student a versatile guitarist with a wide range of guitar technique in his vocabulary. CAMK 213L FUNCTIONAL PIANO SKILLS (FOR NON-PIANO MAJORS) – 1 unit. This course is designed for the non-pianist to learn the basics of piano playing. It will provide them with the knowledge on how to read simple piano pieces, improvise basic chord accompaniment and generally use the piano as a learning tool in the music classroom. CAMZ 224L ELECTIVE (PIANO/VOICE/CELLO,ETC.) – 1 unit. This course is intended for the enrichment of students who want to study another instrument in addition to their main ones. CAMG 411 GUITAR ENSEMBLE 1 – 2 units. This course involves the preparation and performance of simple works for guitar duet, guitar trio, or guitar quartet. It focuses on the fundamentals of ensemble playing. Students are required to study works representing the different styles using reliable music editions. CAMG 422 GUITAR ENSEMBLE 2 – 2 units. This course involves the preparation and performance of intermediate to advanced works for guitar duet, guitar trio, guitar quartet or any ensemble work for guitar and other instrument. Students are required to study works representing the different styles using reliable music editions. CAMT 111 MUSIC THEORY 1 – 2 units. This course begins with a review of music rudiments. The format structure of the course combines lectures and applied exercises in which the basic aspects of elementary Music Theory and its applications begin with major and minor scales, intervals, triads and eventually four-part harmony.

CAMT 122 MUSIC THEORY 2 – 2 units. This course begins with a review of music rudiments and proceeds to the major and minor triads, their inversions and rules in doubling. Continuation of four-part writing in root position and different inversions. Different Cadences will

also be discussed. These concepts are all pre requisite to basic 4-part harmony writing in the next course, Music Theory III. CAMT 213 MUSIC THOERY 3 – 2 units. This course is a continuation of the dominant 7th chord in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd inversions. It introduces the 6/4 chords and its functions. It also discusses modulations, secondary dominants altered dominant and borrowed chords. This will eventually help them create a simple melody for their four- part harmony original composition. CAMT 224 MUSIC THEORY 4 – 2 units. This course is the last of the Music Theory requirements. It discusses more advanced harmony and 20th century Theory leading to the final requirement of the student to compose an original work for vocal and instrumental medium that utilizes any of the materials and techniques learned throughout the semester. CMAS 111 SOLFEGE AND DICTATION 1 – 2 units. Solfeggio is sight reading through singing the so-fa syllables. In this course, the student will be introduced to sight sing diatonic exercises in different intervals and in simple melodic form using both the treble and bass clefs. Dictation, on the other hand is notating music after listening to it. It is also called ear training. In this course, the student will notate rhythms and melodies in different note values. The students will also do rhythmic reading by reciting and tapping. CAMS 122 SOLFEGE AND DICTATION 2 – 2 units. Solfeggio is sight reading through singing the so-fa syllables. In this course, the student will be introduced to sight sing diatonic exercises in different intervals and in simple melodic form using both the treble and bass clefs. CMAS 213 SOLFEGE AND DICTATION 3 – 2 units. This course is a continuation of sight-reading through singing a melody in fixed-do and movable-do. On the other hand, dictation, also called as ear training, is notating music after listening to it. The student will notate rhythms and melodies in different note values. This is the third continuation of developing musicianship. It continues to tackle more difficult singing and ear training exercises. It practices melodic, rhythmic and harmonic dictation. CAMS 224 SOLFEGE AND DICTATION 4 – 2 units. The last required course will continue to sing movable do in different keys. Students will also sightsing different a capella songs from different genre. Sing and Play exercises will also be given to develop coordination between fingers, eyes and voice. At the end of the semester they will perform and sightsing original compositions by the Music Theory 4 class. CAME 221 FOUNDATION OF MUSIC EDUCATION – 3 units. CAMR 111,122,223,224 CHOIR 1-4 – 8 units. The course provides opportunity for the students to sing and perform quality good music as a choir. It is also a participation of the students in AUP Ambassadors (official singing group of the University) as members of the said group. Moreover, the students will form vocal ensembles like duet, trio, quartet, octet, ladies chorus, and male chorus. CAMV 121 VIOLIN LITERATURE – 3 units. This course discusses composers and standard works for the violin from the Baroque period until the 20th century. Background about the composers and the works are discussed, such as when was the composition made, for whom it was made, and when was the piece premiered. Writing of recital program and program notes will also be discussed. CAMF 315 FORMS AND ANALYSIS – 2 units. This course is a lecture format in which the organization and structure compositional elements in and of a music score and/or composition are analyzed and synthesized within the contextual understanding of musicolo-historical period performance practices and styles. CAMH 211 HISTORY OF WESTERN MUSIC I – 3 units. This course discusses important music milestones starting from the earliest record of music (Biblical times) until the Renaissance and Reformation period; Baroque period may be briefly discussed as well. Other historical aspects revolving the world of music are looked into, understanding how these events affect the development of music. Important composers, musical trends, and significant historical events are given emphasis. CAMH 222 HISTORY OF WESTERN MUSIC II – 3 units. This course continues the topics from History of Western Music I, dealing with music from the Baroque period until the 21st Century. Other historical aspects revolving the world of music are to be discussed, understanding how these events affect the development of music. Important composers, musical trends, development of music and technology, and significant historical events are given emphasis. CAMI 122 INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE (STRINGS) – 1 unit. This course studies different orchestra string instruments (violin, viola, cello, double bass). The students will be required to play an instrument in an ensemble performance at the end of the semester. CAMN 111L APPLIED MINOR INSTRUMENT 1 (VIOLIN) – 1 unit. This course explores into the basics of violin playing. Students are introduced to basic violin handling and posture as well as bow hold. Simple pieces and etudes are given to establish basic techniques such as good tone, intonation, good shape of fingers and quick finger motions, and basic bow strokes such as detache, legato, and staccato. Exam requirements: one octave scale and arpeggio (major and minor), one etude, and one main piece. Violin majors are required to memorize all exam repertoire. CAMN 122L APPLIED MINOR INSTRUMENT 2 (VIOLIN) – 1 unit. This course expects students to master basic techniques learned from the previous level and demonstrate comfortable, natural motions while playing. Bow division and simple dynamic contrasts are expected. Students are also introduced to longer pieces. Exam requirements: one octave major and minor scale and

Exam requirements: two octave major and minor scale and arpeggio with shifting at least to 3rd position, one etude, and two main pieces. Violin majors are required to memorize all exam repertoire. CAMN 224L APPLIED MINOR INSTRUMENT 4 (VIOLIN) – 1 unit. This course expects students to master techniques from the previous level. Shifting to higher positions is also introduced, as well as basic vibrato. Other techniques introduced may include double stopping, accented strokes, lifts, and spiccato. Students are also expected to display faster sight reading skill. Exam requirements: two octave major and minor scale and arpeggio with shifting, one etude, and two main pieces. Violin majors are required to memorize all exam repertoire. CAMN 315L APPLIED MINOR INSTRUMENT 5 (VIOLIN) – 1 unit. This course reinforces techniques learned from the previous levels, such as shifting, double stopping, off string playing, and vibrato. Range of pieces and exercises are longer and more difficult and require finer grasp of both left and right hand techniques. Students are expected to display expression in playing in accordance to the periodic style of the pieces required. Sonatinas and sonatas might also be introduced during this level. Exam requirements: at least two octave major and minor scale and arpeggio with shifting, and 8-note slurs, one etude, and two main pieces. Violin majors are required to memorize all exam repertoire. CAMN 326L APPLIED MINOR INSTRUMENT 6 (VIOLIN) – 1 unit. This course reinforces techniques from previous levels and requires students to display mastery of both left and right hand techniques. Pieces required are longer, more difficult, and require a variety of techniques and informed expression. The course is designed to improve the capacity of BMME with emphasis in voice to perform with ease, accuracy and expression vocal repertoire in the Italian language. CAMD 322 GERMAN DICTION – 2 units. A course for BMME with emphasis in voice to improve their capacity to respond with ease, accuracy and expression in German. CAMD 413 FRENCH DICTION – 2 units. A course for BMME with emphasis in voice to improve their capacity to respond with ease, accuracy and expression in French. CAMI 223 INSTRUMENT ENSEMBLE (WOODWINDS AND BRASSES) – 1 unit. This course studies the woodwind and brass instruments. The students will be required to play an instrument in an ensemble performance at the end of the semester. CAMI 224 INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE (CHAMBER MUSIC AND ORCHESTRATION) – 1 unit. This course will teach students ensemble and orchestral playing. This course will cover a brief survey of the traditional music of the many regions and cultures of the world. It will also include basic knowledge on important musical styles, genres, and practices that occur beyond the premise of influence of the Western musical theory and practice. This course will facilitate experience of the world’s musical and cultural traditions through discussions, analysis, and performance. CAMA 411 ART OF ACCOMPANIMENT – 3 units. Art of Accompaniment is the study of the technique and art of musical collaboration on the piano. It will prepare the pianist to be a good collaborating artist to be used in Church evangelism and other concert events. CAMI 111 INSTRUMENT ENSEMBLE 1 (RONDOLLA AND GUITAR METHODS) – 1 unit. This course is divided into two parts. First is dedicated to the study of basic guitar playing and the second is learning to play the Philippine rondalla instruments. In the study of guitar, the students are taught how to read notes on the guitar and how to accompany simple songs. The rondalla study includes basic playing techniques of the banduria, laud, octavina and bass. The class functions as an ensemble that involves rehearsal and performance every meeting. CAMP 321 PHILIPPINE AND ASIAN MUSIC – 3 units. This course is a survey of the music of selected Upland, Christian and Islamic cultures which includes the instrumental and vocal music, its functions and purpose in everyday living. It is also a brief survey of the traditional music of many regions and cultures of Asian countries. COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

CAPS 121 INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY – 3 units. A broad coverage of the conceptual and empirical foundations of psychology in its main fields. The discussion of the theories, concepts and empirical findings focuses on complex human behavior – how and why we think, feel and behave the way we do, how we act and interact with others and why and how we become unique individuals that we are.

CAPS 201 PSYCHOLOGICAL STATISTICS – 5 units. Basic Concept and methods of descriptive and inferential statistics and their use in the design, analysis, and interpretation of psychological studies. CAPS 212 DEVELOPMENT PSYCHOLOGY – 3 units. A study of human development throughout the life span in the areas of physical, social, mental, cognitive, emotional, and moral development. Major developmental theories are tackled. Emphasis is given on the system perspective and the interactive dimensions of human development particularly in the Filipino setting. CAPS 213 BIOLOGICAL PSYCHOLOGY – 3 units. This course discusses the physiological/biological approach to studying behavior. Basic concepts and findings in neuroscience with special emphasis on brain-body relationship, brain-behavior relationship, and min-behavior relationship are treated in the course. CAPS 214 PERSONALITY – 3 units. A survey of major theories of personality and the theoretical and practical issues involved in the scientific study and understanding of personality formation and dynamics. CAPS 215 COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY – 3 units. An introduction to research and knowledge in the psychological study of important cognitive abilities, including sensation and perception, attention, memory and representation, language and thinking. CAPS 226 POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY – 3 units. This course will introduce students to the emerging field of Positive Psychology – the science of positive experiences, positive institutions, and human strengths. For the past several years, psychology was developed mainly on studying mental illness and how to treat patients. The Positive Psychology movement reminds us that psychology is also dedicated to promoting human strengths and virtues and that its goal is not merely to treat but also to prevent illness. The course will evaluate imperical studies on happiness and other positive concepts and students will learn primarily from classroom discussion. CAPS 227 PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT I – 5 units. The orientation of this course is into the rudiments of psychological testing. The principles, methods and uses of psychological testing are tackled. Emphasis is placed on issues of item analysis, reliability, and validity in test construction. The administration, scoring and interpretation of objective, cognitive and affective tests used in various applied fields of psychology particularly the educational, industrial, and government settings are covered. Ethical considerations as well as current trends and issues in psychological testing in the Philippines settings are discussed. CAPS 228 INDUSTRIAL/ORGANIZATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY – 3 units. A course providing an overview of concepts, theories and research findings for effective human interactions and performance in the workplace. Topics include organizational structures and systems, organizational communication processes, leadership, motivation, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision making, team dynamics efforts in human resource development and management, and organizational change and development.

CAPS 299 EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY: THE PSYCHOLOGY OF LEARNING – 3 units. An overview of the field of Educational Psychology including research in the field. Theories of educational psychology and their application in the classroom are discussed. The analysis of classroom problems and the design of teaching-learning interventions are tackled using the practitioner-researcher approach. Biological, cognitive, social and cultural factors in learning and education in the Philippine setting are considered. CAPS 311 ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY – 3 units. An introduction to the nature, causes and possible interventions of psychological disorders. The students are expected to be familiar with nomenclature and classifications of mental disorders, by the end of the course. Indigenous concepts of abnormality and abnormal behavior will also be discussed. Ethical considerations in abnormal psychology/clinical psychology are discussed. CAPS 312 PSYCHOLOGICAL INTERVIEWS AND COUNSELING – 3 units. This course aims to provide students with a basic understanding, the nature, scope and skills used in counseling and other psychological interventions. This course also discusses the roles functions and ethical considerations involved in implementing psychological intervention. Emphasis is on various cognitive, affective and behavioral approaches in counseling. CAPS 313 PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT II – 5 units. This course will provide a student overview of adult assessment of personality and psychopathology. The class will cover clinical and structured interviewing, multi-scale self-report inventories, and performance-based (i.e., projective) measures. Students will become familiar with the administration, scoring, and interpretation of the most common measures within these domains, with a strong emphasis on the MMPI the most frequently used psychological test instrument in clinical practice (including APA accreditation internships). In addition, students will practice integrating personality assessment test results and writing reports. CAPS 314 EMPLOYESS-EMPLOYER RELATIONS W/ STRATEGIC HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT – 3 units. This is an introductory course in employee-employer relations. It will deal with the theories, principles and practices of management to employees and labor unions. This will prepare students to understand, design, evaluate and manage a labor/employee relations program in their particular setting. CAPS 325 CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY – 5 units. The course aims to provide basic understanding of the nature, scope, and techniques used in the field of counseling psychology, including approaches in the assessment and interventions in various psychological disorders. The course also discusses the roles, functions and ethical considerations involved in the practice of the profession. CAPS 326 GROUP DYNAMICS – 3 units. Using experiential/ inductive methods, the course provides students the opportunity to understand the dynamics of group processes and functioning such as communication, problem-solving, decision-making, leadership/membership, collaboration/competition, and self-awareness, particularly in a Philippine organizational setting. CAPS 313 EXPERIMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY – 5 units. The philosophy and methods of science focusing particularly on experimentation in the investigation of problems and issues in

psychology including ethical considerations in the conduct of experimental research. The student is expected to design and conduct experiment in psychology, write research reports, and present and defend the findings of the experiment. CAPS 328 PSYCHOLOGY OF FILIPINO CULTURE – 3 units. The course is a study of concepts and methods in the field of culture and psychology, giving meaning to psychological reality based on the language and worldview of the Filipino. The students will be introduced to indigenous concepts in Sikolohiyang Filipino, and its application in various fields of psychology. They will also be trained in the use of indigenous research methods. Furthermore, issues regarding Sikolohiyang Filipino as a discipline and as a movement will also be discussed. The course will be conducted in Filipino. This will also examine selected psychological behavior and processes in the context of culture with special emphasis on Philippine and Asian Culture. CAPS 400 PRACTICUM – 3 units. A course that will expose students to the different settings where psychology is practiced as a profession, e.g., school setting, industrial setting, government, non-governmental organizations, and hospitals or mental health center. Students are required to complete total of 150 hours of practicum work in one or more of the above settings. The practicum class should meet at least twice a month to discuss the students’ work progress, the observations, insights, reflections, and learning of the students during their practicum work as well as issues in professional psychology including ethics and areas of concern of the students in their practicum work. CAPS 327 RESEARCH I – 3 units. A research methods course which aims to train the students in psychological research beginning from choosing a relevant problem-topic, reviewing the literature, postulating a conceptual framework, to planning for methodology and data analysis. The output is a mature research proposal. CAPS 412 PSYCHOLOGY FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN – 3 units. A course designed to understand children who are set apart from others due to either an advantage or disadvantage in term of their physical, mental and emotional conditions. Discussions of etiological factors, characteristics of each of the condition, assessment procedures and intervention approaches are included in the student’s exploration of human exceptionality. Orientation on the rights and privileges of Filipinos with special needs shall also be discussed as embodied in the Persons with Disabilities Act of the Philippines (9442). CAPS 413 DISASTER AND MENTAL HEALTH – 3 units. This course provides an overview of the impact of disasters on individuals, families and communities. Learners will be introduced to disaster preparedness and how it can be facilitated. The course seeks to provide learners an understanding the impact of disasters on mental health and the principles in providing psychosocial support of survivors. CAPS 414 CURRENT ISSUES – 3 units. This course is will tackle the current issues and research in particular sub-area in psychology. CAPS 415 SEMINAR IN PSYCHOLOGY: RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION – 3 units. This course focuses on employee selection and development. By the end of this course, students

should be able to conduct assessment of competencies, identify development needs and approaches to training and development of employees. Students will also be oriented on the practice skills in recruiting, targeted interviewing, and profiling of applicants. CAPS 425 SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY – 3 units. The scientific study of human social behavior – how and why we think, feel, behave and relate to one another in social situations the way we do. The major theories, concepts, and empirical findings in social psychology are dealt with. Social behavior and social phenomena in the Philippine setting are examined from the social psychological perspective. CAPS 426 BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION – 3 units. As the course unfolds, the students will gain comprehension of the models of behavior modification. The basic principles and procedures of simple behavior change will help students modify their way of reasoning and thinking. At the same time, they will investigate and appraise relevant research and ethical issues pertaining to behavioral change. CAPS 427 INTRODUCTION TO CAREER DEVELOPMENT – 3 units. A three unit course designed for the students to acquire knowledge and skills that are important for developing, implementing and evaluating career development programs. Student will explore different theories on career development and learn how these theories apply to the career development of youth and adults throughout the life span. Exposure to the principles in the practice of vocational, career development and counseling including activities such as decision-making, vocational assessment, job seeking skills in career counseling and ethical and legal issues. The course will also introduce students to a variety of assessment instruments. CAPS 428 RESEARCH II – 3 units. The second part is the implementation of the research proposal. The student is expected to come up with a well-written empirical research paper and is expected to defend the results, the discussion, and the conclusions.
