Advocacy and Engagement As Secretariat to the IQ-RAP Working Group, RDA CEO Glenys Schuntner has continued to engage with key industry stakeholders and secure their advocacy support for IQ-RAP. Most recently National Farmers’ Federation, Agforce and Brisbane Markets Limited have provided letters of support as follow up to IQ-RAP briefings. For a list of engagement activity and letters of support received, visit: http://rdanwq.org.au/iq-rap IQ-RAP advocacy to the State election parties The IQ-RAP Working Group is asking political parties and their candidates to: 1. reference IQ-RAP as an input to the state freight and supply chain strategy, development of regional transport plans and

associated funding programs; 2. reference IQ-RAP as an input to road infrastructure planning for increasing drive tourism; 3. commit to working with Regional Roads and Transport Groups on addressing and funding strategic priorities identified in IQ-

RAP in the future rounds of QTRIP; 4. increase the annual funding of regional roads west of the Bruce Highway and outside South-East Queensland in the period

from 2018-2022; and 5. ensure local councils and businesses have access to opportunities to deliver road projects in regional Queensland. State election regional road commitments (as of 17.11.17) The 33 IQ-RAP council partners cover 82% of the State’s total land area. Here is a summary of commitments to date. 5 projects worth $9.55 million out of the 10 Beef Roads projects worth a total of $60 million are in the IQ-RAP area – that is, 16% of funding is committed to the IQ-RAP area.

3 projects worth $5.9 million out of 11 Better Bridges projects worth $80 million are in the IQ-RAP area, that is 7% of funding is committed to the IQ-RAP area.

IQ-RAP Working Group Chair and Boulia Shire Mayor Rick Britton said it was an honour to be named as an award finalist with such a high caliber of entries from across Australia.

Building Better Regions Fund - Round Two opens

The Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Acting Minister for Regional Development and Acting Minister for Local Government and Territories, the Hon Darren Chester MP announced the opening of Round Two of the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) on Tuesday 7 November, 2017. The $481.6 million BBRF supports the Australian Government’s commitment to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities into the future. BBRF is a competitive, merit based grant program, which supports regional areas through infrastructure projects under the Infrastructure Projects stream and community strengthening projects under the Commu-nity Investments stream.

The Infrastructure Projects Stream supports projects which involve the construction of new infrastructure, or the upgrade or ex-tension of existing infrastructure that provide economic and social benefits to regional and remote areas. The Community Invest-ments Stream funds the following community activities, new or expanded local events, strategic regional plans, and leadership and capability strengthening activities These projects will deliver economic and social benefits to regional and remote communi-ties. Infrastructure activities are not eligible for the Community Investments Stream. Building Better Regions Fund Round 2 - Summary of changes from Round 1 Eligible project locations

Changes have been made to the boundaries

Previously ineligible project locations may be eligible under Round 2

Projects can be located in an excluded area but project benefits must flow directly to an eligible area assessed as part of merit

The declaration confirms the applicant can fund its share of the project

Risk management plan

Procurement plan

They have been incorporated as questions in the application forms

Attachment size limits

Round 1 had a 2MB limit on individual attachment to the application form

This limit has been removed for Round 2

Beef Australia Business Matching Program – Handshakes Beef Australia 2018 in collaboration with its principal partners, the Australian Government Department of Agriculture and Water Resources, the Queensland Government, Meat and Livestock Australia and the Rockhampton Regional Council welcomes international and Australian businesses to participate in the complimentary Beef Australia Business Matching Program – Handshakes. Handshakes provides an ideal opportunity for International agribusiness companies to meet face-to-face with Australian enterprises across the beef supply chain to learn more about their products and services and establish business relationships. The Handshakes program is targeted to Australian and international businesses currently engaged in business activities with the Australian beef industry or strongly considering business activities with the Australian beef industry. In 2018, Handshakes will be targeted to offer participants best value for their involvement. Interested parties are invited to request an Expression of Interest (EOI) via the Request Handshakes EOI link. Beef Australia will then email the appropriate EOI (Australian or International). In completing the emailed EOI, potential participants will be asked to provide company information including a 150 word company profile and their logo.

Community benefit funding programs

Not-for-profit groups operating in Queensland can apply for grants from $500 to $35,000 through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF). This fund is Queensland’s largest one-off grants program, distributing approximately $53 million per year to Queensland communities.

The Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) Community Benefit Funds Unit (CBFU) administers the GCBF. We invite all

eligible organisations to submit grant applications to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund through the GCBF online grants portal.

The Gambling Community Benefit Fund round 95 is now open and will close at 11.59pm on 30 November 2017

Mandatory attachments for both streams are attached directly to the application form.

It is up to applicants to determine the evidence they provide within the 20MB limit.

No “local time” close of application period - Closing time is Tuesday 19 December 2017, 5pm Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time—that is—4pm Queensland time.

RDA will be undertaking BBRF workshops in Mount Isa on 29 November and in Townsville on 1 December which will also be web/ video linked across the region. Programs, Grants and Initiatives Smart Farming Partnerships

The National Landcare Program's new Smart Farming Partnerships is offering multi-year grants of between $250,000 and $4 million to put in place new and innovative sustainable land management practices, which protect and improve the condition of soils, vegetation and biodiversity.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources, Barnaby Joyce, called for groups of skilled organisations

and individuals in the agriculture, fishing, aquaculture and farm forestry industries to come together to apply for the $60 million

Smart Farming Partnerships.

Applications close 21 December, 2017.

Provides small and medium sized businesses with access to expert technology advice to address technology and knowledge gaps,

and collaborate with the research sector in developing new ideas with commercial potential. Support includes up to $50,000 in

matched funding to work on collaborative projects.

Innovation Connections Facilitation provides your business with an Innovation Facilitator to help you to:

identify knowledge gaps

identify opportunities to work with research organisations to test and develop new ideas

connect to other business assistance packages

find the expertise to support your business.

If you choose to implement the suggestions in the report and would like to work with a research organisation, you can apply for an

Innovation Connections Grant.

Austrade Export Market Development Grants

The Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) scheme is a key Australian Government financial assistance program for aspiring and current exporters. Administered by Austrade, the scheme supports a wide range of industries. The EMDG scheme:

encourages small- and medium-sized Australian businesses to develop export markets

reimburses up to 50 per cent of eligible export promotion expenses above $5,000 provided that the total expenses are at least $15,000

provides up to eight grants to each eligible applicant. It also provides businesses with an opportunity to enter and embed themselves in global value chains—something that encompasses 80 per cent of global trade. EMDG recipients include many of Australia’s best known exporters. The vast majority of recipients report that the scheme in invaluable in helping them access new markets, and develop better international business and cultural understanding.

Programs, Grants and Initiatives Resources Ready Program - Resources and Engineering Skills Alliance (RESA) Resources Ready is a business skills capability development program. Full day workshops are conducted once a month over a six month period and support participants to build their business and growth strategy for the resources industry: comprising mining and energy, including oil and gas, engineering and METS sector. At the conclusion of the program participants will have a detailed understanding of what is required to do business successfully in the Resource Industry. They will have a strategy and an actionable list of activities to build their own business in the sector. Resources Ready will provide exposure to key decision makers in the industry and support network development and open collaboration opportunities with likeminded businesses in their region and across Australia. Resources Ready 2018 takes businesses on a coordinated development pathway that provides the tools needed to enter and flourish within the Australian resources supply chain.

Resources Ready is an innovative new business capability development program from RESA. Delivered across Australia to six regional industrial centres over six months, Resources Ready supports companies working in, or seeking to enter the Mining and Energy sectors to build their business capability and improve their resources market perfornmance.This structured program features a blended delivery model, combining local, experienced mentors with leading presenters from around the country. Participants will attend high-energy, monthly workshop sessions combined with interactive online material delivered by subject matter experts.Each node of Resources Ready will provide mentoring from an on-site business mentor. These mentors are experienced facilitators with a background in industry and provide local context. They will support you to build expertise and apply concepts.Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate and build networks in their local region to tackle big opportunities, and also expand their contacts and relationships to other Resources Ready participants in the national supply chain.Resources Ready is for:• Resources sector suppliers looking to grow their business• Established companies looking to diversify and enter the sector• Innovation focused companies looking to apply their ideas to resources• Agile companies with a services focus

Outcomes

Resources Ready will support network development in regions, in line with best practice, with businesses involved in previous RESA programs forming collaborative business development groups and/or starting nodes for clustering opportunities.

Program DesignThe program is designed to provide participants with a range of support during the course; it is based upon learning and skills development methodology similar to that used in MBA and higher degree programs. In session content is recorded and available 24/7 through the RESA portal, along with additional supporting material and information.The program is intended for senior leaders and decision makers within companies, and people in growth and strategic focused roles. It is also suitable for emerging leaders in positions of influence.Key presenters include:• Buyers and Procurement experts from major Resources and Energy companies• Resource and mining industry leaders• Strategic thinkers and innovation experts• Marketing and Social Media professionals• Government support agenciesEach workshop is followed by one-to-one sessions with mentors discussing the participant’s specific issues and supporting the development of the company’s Resources Industry Growth Strategy. This facilitated and integrated delivery approach provides participants with ongoing engagement and networking, building program participants into collaborators on a business journey.
