Harmony Day celebrates Australias cultural diversity. Its about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. "Everyone Belongs" is a wonderfully powerful message to live out in our daily interactions with people and at Kilberry Valley, I am very proud how we bring that to life in our school community. It is something we can certainly celebrate. Our students have been discussing this in their classes and engaging in activities that assist them to realise the special aspects to the various cultures, we not only have at Kilberry, but across Australia, that enrich our life as we share it together. Our English as Additional Language staff organised a tremendous Harmony Day Celebration Concert (Wednesday afternoon) where we were treated to a variety of cultural items to celebrate our differences and the special bond we have as a school community. School Council Annual General Meeting Our School Council AGM will be held next Tuesday 27 th March commencing at 2.00pm. This will immediately be followed by the first meeting of your 2018 School Council. As always, these are open meetings and anyone in our school community can attend. The only thing you are not permitted to do is vote on any issues that arise at Council. Cross Country Event – Congratulations to EVERYONE!! What a fantastic day last Friday. I would especially like to thank the staff and parents who assisted in any way to ensure this was the success it turned out to be. All the students enjoyed their time and it was certainly a blessing that the weather was perfect for the day. These events are a great way to celebrate together and the sense of community was very strong last Friday. * MONDAY 26th MARCH Whole School Photos * THURSDAY 29th MARCH School Finishes 2.30pm * MONDAY 16th APRIL School commences for Term 2 9.00am start Casey Race Swimming Lesson To FRIDAY 20th APRIL Grades 4, 5 & 6 * FRIDAY 27th APRIL Grade 6 Winter Sports KVPS vs Beaconhills

21st March 2018

Dear Parents, 21st March is … Harmony Day!

Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

School Council Annual General Meeting Our School Council AGM will be held next Tuesday 27th March commencing at 2.00pm. I would especially like to thank the staff and parents who

assisted in any way to ensure this was the success it turned out to be. All the students enjoyed their time and it was certainly a blessing that the weather was perfect for the day. These events are a great way to celebrate together and the sense of community was very strong last Friday.

You Can Do It Focus – Using Your Manners I was showing some visitors around the school last week when student (and I am so sorry I cannot remember who it was – but you will know if you read this) saw us coming past the hall and stayed at the door to the administration building so they could hold open it for us. Now that was showing manners, respect and consideration for others. THANK YOU and WELL DONE! Keep up the emphasis on using your manners at all times but especially these 2 weeks while we focus on it. Student Representative Council – Free Dress Day The SRC will be holding a Free Dress Day to raise funds for our new World Vision child Rassel Meah next Wednesday 28

th March. So let’s all come in Free Dress and raise the funds required to support him for the

next 12 months. Gold coin donation if in free dress. Final Day Of Term – Thursday 29th March – Early Dismissal We will dismiss on Thursday 29th March at 2.30pm for the end of term 1. Please ensure you make arrangements for the early pick up on this day. School resumes on Monday 16th April. There will be no assembly on the final day of term Have a great week and keep smiling! I’ve learnt that fire needs three elements : oxygen, radiated heat and fuel. If you take

one away, the fire will die. Floods happen when there is a lot of rain and the ground can’t hold the rain so it floods. – Raymond

This term in geography the Year 5s learnt about fires and floods. I learnt that fires need three main elements that are: heat, fuel and oxygen. If one of the elements were taken away, the fire will stop! Floods are dirty. There are really dangerous and lots of people drown in them. – Roopneet

Here is a snapshot of the flood experiment students have been involved in. Two landscapes…

The landscape before the rain. The landscape during the rain. The flooded landscape after the rain.

Fire can be caused by dry land. Floods can be caused by the drains being blocked. Floods can be dangerous because you can drown. Fires can be dangerous because you can get severe damage from them. – Sarah

This term Year 5 has been learning about floods and fires. We practised the stop, drop and roll technique. There are three elements that cause fire - heat, oxygen and fuel. We found learning about natural disasters interesting. Floods are caused when the ground can’t hold the rainwater. – Dapinder

Here is a snapshot of the fire experiment students have been involved in.

A fire takes hold and embers and ash rise into

the air quickly. Can you see the flame in

the second picture?

Our thoughts go out to those people affected

by the recent floods in Cairns, Queensland and the bushfires in

Victoria and New South Wales.

At Kilberry Valley Primary School, we believe that student success is dependent upon

good attendance at school. Students need to attend school regularly in order to

participate fully and gain maximum benefit from their schooling. Daily attendance

enables students to access a full education, allowing them to reach their full potential.

Students with poor patterns of attendance in primary school usually have poor patterns

in secondary school and often disengage from school. There is a direct link between

school attendance and achievement in later life. Poor attendance also makes it difficult

for children to form positive relationships with their peers therefore, we feel that regular

attendance is essential for KVPS students.

infectious illnesses, in particular: Chicken -Pox, Measles, Mumps or Shingles.

It is also important that while your child

is unwell they remain at home until they are no longer contagious. Please let us know immediately by calling the school office on 9702 8688.

As a school community we value your support in relation to the wellbeing of

all our students.

We have a large number of school
