Guiding Question

• How can my PLC partner(s) and I use Common Formative Assessments to guide instruction?

• How do I develop a performance task that can be used as a Small Goal CFA?

Page 5: Developing Performance Tasks to be Used as Common Formative Assessments

With My PLC Partner(s), I Can…

• Determine how best to assess learning targets.• Create an assessment that will evaluate student

mastery of learning targets.• Develop a rubric that gives students descriptive

feedback and helps me to collect data about student mastery.

Rather than thinking about assessment as a snapshot…

Think of it as a scrapbook page

Page 8: Developing Performance Tasks to be Used as Common Formative Assessments

Think about this…

• What methods do you use to assess your kids?• What works for you?• What works for them?• How do you develop those assessments?

Cumulative Assessments• Multiple choice – from a

test bank• Developed by CIA Staff• Graded Scantron• Addresses the objective

What’s the Process?Identify the learning

targets you want/need to assess with your

Common Formative Assessment.

Create performance task and rubric to assess the subjective targets. (SL,

W)

Teach the targets of the unit. Administer the

Small Goal Assessment.

With your PLC, use the rubric to grade the SGA and to analyze the data to determine student

mastery.

Using the rubric, give descriptive feedback to

your students.

Decide which learning targets, if any, you need

to address again in coming units of study.
