Roles in Conducting ACCESS TestingRoles in Conducting ACCESS Testing

Facilitators These individuals, typically at the state or district level, are

responsible for the overall coordination of test administration activities within the state or district.

Coordinators These individuals, typically at the district or school level, have

responsibility for receiving, securing, distributing, and returning test materials.

Test Administrators These individuals administer parts of the ACCESS for ELL®

test for which they have received appropriate training.

Coordinate with WIDA administrators, MetriTech, and the Center for Applied Linguistics

Schedule school-level testing during the testing window

Enroll test administrators in the online training course and/or provide alternative means of training

Certify or approve test administrators

Arrange for reporting and dissemination of testing results

Arrange and schedule test sessions and generally oversee all aspects of test administration

Make sure that test administration is performed by properly trained test administrators

Coordinate distribution of teacher reports and parent/guardian reports

Test Administrator (TA) ResponsibilitiesTest Administrator (TA) Responsibilities

Assure that pre-ID labels are attached to test booklets correctly or that student data is properly bubbled in on test booklet covers

Administer group components of the test (Listening, Reading, and Writing)

Administer and score the Speaking component of the test

Administer the Kindergarten test

Properly account for test booklet security immediately before, during, and after test administration

Preparing for Your RolePreparing for Your Role

Get registered in the D2L course For facilitators, registration is completed by CAL For coordinators and test administrators, registration is

completed by a facilitator

Read the background documents in the D2L course related to your role

If you will be administering tests to students Practice with the test samples in the D2L course

Samples are included for each language domain Speaking test samples will require the most time

Take the quiz for the tests you will be administering Group components: Listening, Reading, Writing Speaking component Kindergarten (all components)

Registering in D2L as a FacilitatorRegistering in D2L as a Facilitator

Facilitators are designated as “WIDA Instructors,” a category of “Staff”

Send (or give) first name, last name, district or charter school name, and email address to Raquel Sinai

After registration you will receive an email from D2L giving you logon instructions

Registering TA’s Registering TA’s

Registration is done from the Classlist menu within D2L

For one by one registration, select Add Participant

For batch or bulk registration, select Import Participants

Staff include list of facilitators and Students include list of test administrators

Default role of A Student enrolls a Test Administrator

Fill in all fields. Note that StudentID and UserName are the same. Formula for setting up ID and password is described on following slide.

Codes are available in published code list.

Restricted to no more than 6 letters.

No spaces, apostrophes, or special characters.

Letters WIDA must begin all names.

Passwords take the form using the template:

je jo 3987

First 2 letters of first name First 2 letters of last name Same 4 random digits as ID

All letters in password are in lower case.

Use of upper and lower case as indicated is helpful to “read” the entry.

Works with the spreadsheet provided in the D2L course

Follow instructions accompanying the Excel file to create the .csv file.

Import the .csv file into D2L.

Some questions require rating of speech samples

Quiz is “passed” at 80% correct

Quiz results, feedback, and correct answers are available at completion in D2L Grades book

Only persons enrolled as Students in D2L can take a quiz for a grade

Quiz may be retaken as necessary to reach criterion

Only highest graded attempt is recorded in Grades book
