A function generator (with a built-in cycle counter)is contained in the 407 Controller to provide sine, square, triangle, and single ramp commandwaveforms. For tests requiring complex waveforms, the Model 407 includes an external command input

Function Generation

The Model 407 Controller provides completecontrol of the test system hydraulics. The Model407 can be used to control a hydraulic powersupply and/or a hydraulic service manifold to applylow and high hydraulic pressure to the test system. The Model 407 can be used with either solenoidcontrolled (on/off) or proportional type hydraulic

to receive externally generated commands. The function generator waveform can be

output to another Model 407 Controller (or anyexternal device) for synchronization or it can besynchronized to an external device.

Amplitude control is an optional compensationprogram that assures that commanded end levels(peaks and valleys) are achieved in a cyclic test. It tracks the feedback signal from a test andautomatically adjusts the amplitude and set pointcontrols on the Model 407 until desired end levelsand mean are achieved. It does this continuously, assuring that all levels are within tolerance.

Amplitude Control is beneficial in cyclic testsunder load control where test system or specimen

characteristics may vary over time. Its unique, dual-mode control capability makes it especially usefulfor tests where load control is difficult to achieve. The amplitude control can be selected to operateeither the mean (set point) or amplitude (peak-valley, as in acceleration) or both the mean andamplitude at the same time. Amplitude controlworks with internally or externally generated sineand triangular waveforms, over a frequency rangeof 1.0 to 100 Hz.

service manifolds. It is also compatible withhydraulic power supplies that have either 24 VDCor, with an optional interface, line voltage controlcircuitry. In multiple controller configurations, theModel 407 provides first-on/last-off control of thehydraulic power supply in addition to control of alocal hydraulic service manifold.

6

Serial communications is an optional, plug-inmodule that allows the Model 407 to be operatedremotely from a personal computer or workstationvia standard RS-232 or RS-485 communicationports. Up to 32 MTS Model 407 Controllers can beconnected in the same communications chain.Cable lengths from the first to the last chassis canbe up to 300 feet.

Sophisticated external applications can be writtenthat use the serial communications link for testautomation. Any environment that provides accessto the computer’s serial port, such as LabVIEW orVisual Basic, can be used for programming. MTS

PC Serial Communications (Optional)

supplies a complete set of high-level LabVIEWapplications for your immediate use; some examplesof the screens are shown here. A complete set ofLabVIEW low-level drivers is also included so thatyou can custom build high-level applications to runyour specific tests.

Serial communications can be used for remote testmonitoring or for test storage and retrieval via yourpersonal computer. After a test is set up, allparameters in the controller can be uploaded to thePC and saved to disk. Later, the setup can be down-loaded to the Model 407, thus ensuring an identicaltest setup and saving time.
