The gathering gave every participant the opportunity to express his or her views and ask any question or concern the person might have. Looking at the active participation and informative presentations, we can say that the Town Hall meeting was a success, thanks to all who worked hard to make this result possible, including the various presenters--- the book-keeper, David Elsey, the Chair of the PPC, Mike Sawicki, the Felician Sisters, Shelley and Felicity, as well as the various functionaries at the occasion, Diane Garrison who made sure that we were all well fed, Azeem Ghatti who made sure we adhered to the specified time, Mike McCallion who did his best to capture the proceedings, and Mike Pecar who operated the microphone system effectively to insure that everyone heard what was being said wherever they might be sitting. Indeed, the participation was great, and a lot of information was shared. But, as the saying goes, "The devil is in the details." The answer we gave to this important question may deter- mine the direction St. Jude parish may be heading in the short or long-term. One of the lessons Town Hall meetings teach us is, life can be a challenge at times, and therefore calls for patience and tolerance. This is because from time to time some issues that are beyond our control stare at us, often leaving us frustrated or angry. What is the solution? Anger and quipping coming to the church and supporting our parish? Not all! Taking to the exit in anger and frustration is self-defeating, because it never solves any problem, rather it makes the problem worse. Patience, hard work, prayer seem to be the best solution in the final analysis, because nothing is beyond God's mighty power, if we trust in Him. Another lesson from Town Hall meetings is, the realization that people are inherently different. No two persons are exactly alike, not even the so-called identical twins! This means that we are to respect and learn to celebrate our individuality and God- given gifts, instead of attempting to program people to fit into past or future molds. In a Town Hall meeting we realize that those who differ with us or do things differently are not necessarily our enemies or competitors, but rather our collaborators in minis- try, working towards the same goal, namely service of the Lord and his people. REFLECTIONS WITH FATHER MICHAEL : LESSONS FROM TOWN HALL MEETINGS !

Last week, Sunday January 12, 2020 St. Jude church Town Hall meeting took

place, following the 10am Mass. It was well attended despite the icy and unfriendly

weather. The gathering gave every participant the opportunity to express his or her

views and ask any question or concern the person might have. Looking at the active

participation and informative presentations, we can say that the Town Hall meeting

was a success, thanks to all who worked hard to make this result possible, including

the various presenters--- the book-keeper, David Elsey, the Chair of the PPC, Mike

Sawicki, the Felician Sisters, Shelley and Felicity, as well as the various functionaries

at the occasion, Diane Garrison who made sure that we were all well fed, Azeem

Ghatti who made sure we adhered to the specified time, Mike McCallion who did his

best to capture the proceedings, and Mike Pecar who operated the microphone system

effectively to insure that everyone heard what was being said wherever they might be

sitting. Indeed, the participation was great, and a lot of information was shared.

But, as the saying goes, "The devil is in the details." The negative and positive as-

pects of the parish life have been diagnosed and brought to everyone's attention. Now

what shall we do about it? The answer we gave to this important question may deter-

mine the direction St. Jude parish may be heading in the short or long-term.

One of the lessons Town Hall meetings teach us is, life can be a challenge at times,

and therefore calls for patience and tolerance. This is because from time to time some

issues that are beyond our control stare at us, often leaving us frustrated or angry.

What is the solution? Anger and quipping coming to the church and supporting our

parish? Not all! Taking to the exit in anger and frustration is self-defeating, because it

never solves any problem, rather it makes the problem worse. Patience, hard work,

prayer seem to be the best solution in the final analysis, because nothing is beyond

God's mighty power, if we trust in Him.

Another lesson from Town Hall meetings is, the realization that people are inherently

different. No two persons are exactly alike, not even the so-called identical twins!

This means that we are to respect and learn to celebrate our individuality and God-

given gifts, instead of attempting to program people to fit into past or future molds. In

a Town Hall meeting we realize that those who differ with us or do things differently

are not necessarily our enemies or competitors, but rather our collaborators in minis-

try, working towards the same goal, namely service of the Lord and his people.

REFLECTIONS WITH FATHER MICHAEL

LESSONS FROM TOWN HALL MEETINGS !

(continued form front cover)

Perhaps, one of the greatest lessons we learn during a Town Hall meeting, is every parish

has a good number of gifted people, some of whom do not participate actively in the parish min-

istry. By this we mean that, for instance, every parish has the great potential of having larger

choir members than it is currently having, as well as more lectors, ushers, extraordinary minis-

ters of the Eucharist, altar servers, Pantry and St. Vincent De Paul volunteers than is the case

currently etc. Simply put, Town hall meetings open our eyes to the need to offer our gifts and

talents in the service of the Lord and His people.

My fellow reflectors and friends, these lessons are what makes convoking Town Hall meet-

ings necessary. It not only provides a good forum for airing our views on what things are not go-

ing right in our church, but also opens our eyes to the things we ought to do ourselves to make

our faith-community better and more attractive to guests and visitors. It is our hope and prayer

that all who attended St. Jude Town Hall meeting last week, and all who will be attending the

Town Hall meeting on Sunday, January 26, at Our Lady Queen of heaven-Good Shepherd

church, will endeavor to make the sentiments of the Psalmist in our Mass today our own, “Here

am I Lord, I come to do your will." (Psalm 40:8)

Without a doubt, we come to Church to do God's will, not ours. And, God's primary will is

that we love one another. When we do this, other things fall into place.

Have a blessed week!

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR SUNDAY, JANUARY 19, 2020:

1. A reminder that St. Raymond-OLGC Town Hall meeting originally scheduled for this

Sunday has been moved to late Spring or Summer this year due to factors beyond our con-

trol. A new date will be released soon.

2. As we all know by now, the annual Town Hall meeting at Our Lady Queen of Heaven-

Good Shepherd will be held next Sunday, January 26, 2020 following the 10am Mass. Like

in the past, it will be held in the parish hall, and lunch will be served.

All are encouraged to attend, including folks who usually attend the Saturday 4pm Mass.

The input of everyone is needed to continue to move the faith-community in the right direc-

tion. May you be blessed as you come!

3. Before you know it, Lenten season may be here. As in the past years, we will have the

"Lenten Series" Mass every Wednesday of Lent. Mass will be rotated from one parish to an-

other among our three parishes during this sacred period. Please, let's start to get ready. It is

hoped that we will have better attendance than we had during the past Advent Series when

we averaged only 3-5 people. We hope more of us join in and attend the special evening

Masses during Lent.

4. We are pleased to announce that the runners-up of last year's "Urban Spirit of the parish

Award at both St. Raymond-OLGC and Our Lady Queen of Heaven, have been tapped to

receive this year's award. Meanwhile, a deserving person at St. Jude will soon be identified

to follow in this year's prestigious award. Please, let us pray for these folks from our three

parishes for a spirit-filled participation. As we all know, one of the criteria for the award is

that the person must be a lover of the Eucharist, who participants in the celebration regularly

and allow the effects of the Eucharist to permeate all he or she does in the parish. No small

feat! Praise the Lord!

5. We are glad to announce the appointment of Sister Barbara Daskoke, HVM as a part-time

office helper at OLQH-GS for a period of one year, subject to renewal. Please, welcome sis-

ter with warm hugs. She will be working along other regular dedicated volunteers, including

Alloteen Hawk and others in a team, under our office Manager, Angela Vann. Congratula-

tions, Sister Barbara!

6. In honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, in doing our part to keeping the Dream
