In order to pursue his dream of working in the medical profession, Ahmed jumped at the opportunity of registering for the Post Graduates Speciality Nurses at the College of Health Sciences.

With Tamkeen taking control of the financial side of his education along with the registration procedures, Ahmed says, "I have been able to experience the benefit of the programme in terms of both time and money. The programme provided the platform for me to concentrate on my studying."

Breaking into the world of professional photography is a dream for many but, with the help of Tamkeen's Visual Design Training Programmes, Asmaa was given the opportunity of turning that dream into a reality. While on the programme, Asmaa learned how to draw up a business plan and discovered how best to talk to customers in order to sell her ideas. "The programme, indeed, opened up new doors for me with investors, allowing me the means to use my skills to bring ideas to life." She says.

Asmaa is now proud to be a photographer rather than a young student. She has also opened her own studio and has plans to expand on her main focus on food photography to include other subject matters. Asmaa recently took second place in Tamkeen's Mashroo3i Youth Business Awards and this, she says, has opened more doors. The future looks bright indeed for Asmaa, who says: "I would like to thank Tamkeen for giving me this chance to prove myself."

Being a graduate having majored in media marketing, the Tamkeen programme was the perfect opportunity for Afnan to continue her studies with a view to gaining employment that was suited to her degree major. With further qualifications under her belt, Afnan is able to benefit from a greater understanding of marketing techniques and tools. In particular, she is able to better judge the needs and wants of customers in today's market.

With new responsibility comes new opportunity for personal and professional advancement. This turns into reality when the company Aminah works for, expanded its business into Africa in 2010. Aminah by then assumed the functions of Human Resources within her division. After Aminah signed up for the Tamkeen coaching and mentoring workshops in addition to the Recruitment and Selection training workshops, she was promoted to the position of Senior HR Specialist, in charge of international recruitment of senior staff members for the division. This development in her career meant her having to work with people of diverse nationalities, some of whom were based in harsh environments; many in remote locations. "I have been able to adopt a more professional manner, with improved listening skills and a better understanding of the team's underlying difficulties and requirements." Aminah comments. Aminah also signed up through Tamkeen for CMI qualification which she successfully completed. This development in her career meant she is ready to acquire more resposiblities in her field.

Jassim, with his interest in calligraphy and an eagerness to extend his artistic skills into photography, joined Youth City 2030.

Through the programme, Jassim learned more about the basics of photography that would enhance his photographic skills. These included getting to know about the intricacies of studio lighting and how to edit pictures on Photoshop. As for calligraphy, he became highly skilled in writing the Al-Rouqa font, as well as the correct way of holding the writing

instruments so that his work might be marked by care and precision.

In the future, Jassim plans to own his own photographic equipment and studio and to become a certified calligrapher in a variety of fonts.

With little experience in dealing with people, Jalila was looking for a way to improve her skills. She found what she needed in one of Tamkeen's programmes.

Jawad's dream was to be a professional nurse so that he could be of service to his country and be of help to those who needed it. Herz believes that planning is the key to success in any business. With this in mind, and with a strong will to shape the future for his own benefit, Herz joined one of Tamkeen's Talent Management Human Resources Workshops.

Attending the workshops has given Herz a better understanding of how to develop a strategic leadership human resource plan. This has provided him with a sense of direction which in turn led to greater stability and the realisation of expectations for all stakeholders, whether employees, customers or vendors.

Of the programme, Herz explained, "The programme has shown me the importance of succession planning and that, if done well, will prove to be an important ingredient in the long-term success of any business."

And of his personal experience of attending the workshops, he added, "There were over 35 participants attending the workshops, coming from many different sectors of Bahrain's business community, so the workshops gave me a wonderful chance to acquire new and up to date concept about human resource leadership."

I was able to demonstrate an understanding of the work process and to display my newly acquired knowledge of how to prepare accounting reports and statements.

Hasan decided to follow his career in accounting to the highest levels of the profession and thought of the perfect starting point for gaining the knowledge and skills to succeed, which is Tamkeen's training Programme. Once he had the AAT qualification under his belt, Hasan found there were immediate rewards. "I was able to demonstrate understanding of the work process and to display my newly acquired knowledge of how to prepare accounting reports and statements," Hasan said, "I was promoted

from the operations department to the accounting department, thanks to my new skills." He added. But Hasan is not sitting back and waiting to see what the future will bring. He already has plans to study for the higher ACCA qualification with the hope of making Chief Accountant.

Husain has entrepreneurial ambitions and in order to get himself off on the right footing in the preparation of his business plan, he joined one of Tamkeen's Leadership and Management Workshops Training Programmes. Now, after completing the programme and with a better understanding of company finances, Husain can boast increased profits in his business. "I acquired the ability to read and analyse profit and loss statements; I have an enhanced

knowledge of standard procedures in finance; and I have greater control of cash flow." Husain said. In addition to his new skills and knowledge, Husain is more systematic in his work, something which is reflected in improved record-keeping, better planning and projections of finances and a tighter system of monitoring budgets. Hussain grasped the importance of applying commercially effective recycling programmes on a national and worldwide scale, for this reason he embarked on his chosen Tamkeen programme "Mashroo3i" that engages young Bahrainis between the age of 15 and 26 in a business plan competition. The programme is designed to help contestants learn all about making business plans and a business prototype and to inspire them to have an open attitude towards business as an option for their future career.

Participants submit either a short video explaining their business idea or a brief description in words. The best business ideas are shortlisted on the basis of Profitability, Feasibility and Innovation and are invited to join the competition. "I learned many new skills, including how to deal with consumers, how to generate and provide a marketable product and, last but not least, how to turn these skills into financial benefit." Hussain said. From a personal perspective, Hussain learned, to 'think big', he became more flexible in the formulation of new ideas and when making important decisions. Husain is currently busy with his university studies which are allowing him to follow his interest in the solar system. However, he is determined to continue his work towards helping establish a culture of responsibility for the environment in Bahrain, where recycling becomes second nature to all.

I learned many new skills, including how to deal with consumers, how to generate and provide a marketable product and, last but not least, how to turn these skills into financial benefit.

Hanan sees nursing not as a job but as a definition of who she is and, because of this, she believes the programme chose her rather than her choosing this career path. There are many benefits Hanan gained from the programme but among the most important she lists are the discovery of her vocation and what this meant to her as a person, an increase in her level of self-confidence and, most important of all, the philosophy of never giving up. Duaa's interest in other cultures, particularly in the Japanese culture, encouraged her to take a position as a systems engineer with the Japanese company Yokogawa as a Tamkeen-supported trainee on the Automation Engineering Training & Employement Programme. During her time on the programme, Duaa gained valuable experience in leading a team and working under pressure to meet deadlines. A shortage of female occupational health and safety specialists in Bahrain was not a barrier to Zahra's plans to find a niche in this increasingly important field of speciality. With her determination to turn her interest into professional involvement, Zahra took on the challenge of breaking into a traditionally male-dominated area of work and, with Tamkeen's support, succeeded in her ambition. As well as getting to know more about health and safety, she also found a job, and the knowledge she picked up on the programme has served to guide her in carrying out her duties effectively. With a view to developing her career in the field of Islamic finance, Zahraa has seen the importance of working to improve her leadership skills. To this end, Zahraa received the necessary training at Thomson Reuters, as a part of Tamkeen's Investment Support Programme, that is extended to companies that set up in Bahrain. "I have become more knowledgeable about the world of Islamic finance marketing and have a greater level of confidence when it comes to initiating new projects." Zahraa says. In addition, she has seen some changes in the way she approaches her work. For instance, she is finding it easier to work professionally within a team and to establish new guidelines for the fulfillment of projects. Salem's creativity and excellence in producing photographs have already earnedhim the attention of those in a position to help further his career, Salem joined Youth City 2030 one of many initiatives by the General Organisation for Youth & Sports where Tamkeen has been a Strategic Partner of the programme for four years.

Attending the workshop has given Salem an added confidence, allowing his personality and presentation skills to flourish. Having the responsibility of information security requires Salman to keep abreast of the latest developments and ensure that his duties and knowledge comply with industry standards. Attending Tamkeen's programme has given Salman a better understanding of the required standards and best practices which in turn has allowed him to work faster while ensuring maximum security is maintained when carrying out his duties.

Having a background in finance already, Maryam wanted to learn more about Islamic Finance. Being a recent law graduate from the United Kingdom, Maryam's main challenge was to adapt from one system to another.
