From Rouzer:“Capt. Jones, I am happy to inform you that last night the Natural Resources Management Act which included our bill text establishing WWII Heritage Cities…was passed by the House of Representatives….We are now the closest we’ve ever been to having this become a reality.

Criterion 1 – What did the city do for the war effort? …Built ships and planes, bases, troops, etc.
Criterion 2 – What has the city done to preserve its WWII history? …Memorials, veterans groups, events, etc.

Here’s What the Law States:Criterion 2 = Achievements by a city and environs to preserve the heritage and legacy of its war effort contributions…and to preserve WWII history:
- Identification, preservation, restoration, interpretation of WWII structures and sites
- Establishment of museums, parks, markers- Establishment of memorials to area men
- Organizing/recognizing groups of veterans and home-front workers
- Presentation of cultural events- Public relations outreach through media and books
- Recognition & ceremonies remembering wartime events
