Urea Breath Test (UBT)
A noninvasive, nonradioactive breath test for effective, proactive H pylori management to:• Accurately detect active H pylori infection using
patient breath samples1-3
• Determine whether treatment for an H pylori infection has been successful2,3
• Provide cost-effective testing relative to other diagnostic methods2
UBT provides the ability to differentiate between active and resolved infections1,2
• Antibody testing cannot distinguish between active infection and recent exposure to infection1,2,4
• Accuracy of blood antibody tests differs based on geography and varying local H pylori strains4
• Reduces the number of patients inappropriately treated1
Accuracy, simplicity, and convenience for H pylori detection
Urea Breath Test for H pylori
“ Because of its lower specificity, serologic testing leads to more treatment of patients without active infection, more antibiotic resistance, and wasting of resources.”

Get results in a few easy steps for you and your patientBaseline breath sample is collected prior to ingesting 13C-urea (a naturally occurring, nonradioactive carbon isotope) prepared in a Pranactin®-Citric solution
Second breath sample is then collected after ingestion of 13C-urea
• 13C-urea is degraded by H pylori-associated urease, producing ammonia and 13CO2
• The 13CO2 is absorbed in the blood and then exhaled in a postdose breath sample
Presence of H pylori is indicated by an increase in the ratio of 13CO2 to 12CO2 between pre- and postdose samples.
