What are the must-haves for any kitchen? Options that offer accessibility and convenience, such as pots and pans drawers, pull-out garbage bins and storage racks, are must-haves in today’s kitchens. For those with limited space, tall and deep pull-out pantries are amazing for handy and
plentiful storage. Lastly, soft-close doors and drawers are an investment that is worth every penny.
Your favourite kitchen design? The optimal idea is a transitional tall kitchen, with clean simple lines and just enough detail to make an impact at first glance. For those from a more traditional background we recommend starting with face-framed construction and adding design elements from there.

How do you start a design project? For me it’s typically always fabric. I fall in love with a fabric and design the entire space around that.
What good elements of design should every space have? Beautiful fabrics, art that speaks to you, a touch of metallic, a touch of wood, pillows, pillows and more pillows.
Advice to clients? Work with what you have. Don’t feel you need to throw everything out and start from scratch. What you don’t see in that perfect looking photo in the magazine is that coffee table book you and your partner bought on a special trip, the hand-me-down vase you love from your grandmother and the chair you found at the side of the road that you lovingly had reupholstered. Build your new space around those gems so it’s uniquely you.

What services do you offer? I take pride in offering more than just the standard. At Jeremy Aykroyd Design, clients can expect to have access to international sources for furniture, lighting and fabrics cultivated through my years of travel in Europe – bespoke interiors, individually tailored to each client’s taste and budget.
What are some of your favourite trends right now? Trends are like fashion, in that they are perpetually changing. I tend not to follow trends. Instead, my focus is on timeless, beautiful design, lasting quality and function.
What elements of design should be in every space? A successful space should evoke an emotional response. Similar to a work of art, the room will encourage the eye to travel across the canvas, stimulating a sense of wonder and discovery. Simultaneously in concert with one another, the interior architecture, scale and balance, colour and light are strung together in harmony to tell a story that is true to the character of the home’s inhabitants.
