RegistrationDelegates are strongly encouraged to register online before arriving in Gwangju. Upon arrival, registered delegates should pick up their name badges at the registration desk located on the 1st floor in the KDJ Center. The registration desk will be open on June 12th.

Only delegates who have registered will be allowed to participate in JCI Asia-Pacific Conference events. Admission will be restricted to delegates wearing Conference badges and holding event entry tickets, when necessary.

Travel VisaKorea requires individuals from some nations to obtain visas before entering the country. If you do need a visa, check with the Korean embassy or consulate in your country as soon as possible for visa requirements, as the process can take several months. Visas cannot be obtained upon arrival in Korea. The Korean Government also advises that, when traveling to Korea, you may be asked to present one or more of the following documents: a hotel reservation, return ticket or some form of proof that you have sufficient funds to cover your visit.

Be sure to request a letter of invitation from the Conference Organizing Committee by emailing your request to [email protected], and don’t forget to provide your passport information, which is needed to complete the letter. Letters of invitation will only be issued after registration payment has been received.

LanguageHangeul, Korea’s official alphabet, was first invented by King Sejong during the Joseon Dynasty. Syllables are formed by the selective combination of vowels and consonants to create words. The official language of the 2013 JCI Asia-Pacific Conference is English.

Internet AccessFree Wi-Fi Service is available in KDJ Center for delegates.

About Gwangju, KoreaWith a population of 1.5 million, Gwangju Metropolitan City is the fifth largest City in South Korea. It is the leading city of the western south region, which is being sought after for its cutting-edge industry and culture, and a core middle city leading the development of the southwestern region. For a long time, Gwangju has been known as a hometown of justice, art and beauty because it’s citizens have never turned a blind eye to injustice and enjoy art, flavor and taste.

ClimateKorean weather shows distinct seasonal changes. The climate of Korea is relatively dry climate affected by seasonal wind. The temperature in Gwangju is expected to range from -10˚C to 0˚C during the Conference. It is windy and snowy in Gwangju and the relative humidity is 65-70%. The weather is subject to change. The Conference Organizing Committtee advises attendees to bring a heavy coat.

GeographyA city located 400km from the nations capital, Seoul, lies at 126˚ 37` of east longitude and 37˚ 28` of north latitude. San Francisco, Washington and Madrid are all found along the same latitude.

Currency and Credit CardsKorea’s official monetary unit is the won. Foreign currency and traveler’s checks can be exchanged into Korean Won at foreign exchange banks and other authorized money exchange locations. Credit cards, including VISA, American Express, Diners Club, Master Card and JCB, are accepted at major hotels, department stores and large restaurants. The exchange rate is subject to fluctuation.

SmokingSmoking is prohibited in most public places and any indoor facilities. There is a smoking lounge on the 4th floor of KDJ Center, which is next to the location for General Assembly.

ElectricityIn Korea, 220 volt outlets are most commonly used (two round pins). If your appliance plug has a different shape, you may need a plug adapter.

Tax and TippingValue Added Tax (VAT) is levied on most goods at a standard rate of 10%. In major tourist spots, a 10% VAT plus a 10% service charge is added to the bills.
