Combining water- saving technology with a contemporary, ergonomic design, the Axor Starck Organic range offers a collection of

unique pieces that are destined to become bathroom icons. Inspired by organic forms and minimalist design, the Axor Starck range offers a highly tactile experience, defi ned by smooth, curved edges and organic, twig- like forms. The standouts of the collection are certainly the basin mixers,

which feature a fl uid design that harmoniously melds the waterspout and temperature control function into a single, beautifully unifi ed mixer.

What was the client brief with this project? It was very much driven by the architect who had just returned from Kathmandu and was inspired by the internal courtyard concept. We also built on the idea of not having the gardens looking overly ‘designed’.

What was your main inspiration? A er we talked with the client we realised that we needed to incorporate a lot of native plants from SE Queensland. We then mixed in a few exotics and really focused on the overall look as we wanted to achieve something a li le rambling that had a structured yet seemingly unkept wildness about it.

Were there any obstacles to overcome with this site? The site was very steep and the soil was fairly poor so we had to improve that. Then there was also the issue of the close proximity to the neighbours - as the house fi lled much of the block we needed to blur the site line and maximise every space available.

What are you particularly proud of? The big thing was the increasing engagement of the client a er the job was completed. As the garden evolved over time so has his interest in gardening. He still involves me to this day as the garden continues to grow.

Tell us a li le about the design? The goal was to plant things for the future, so we utilised the Queensland Kauri Pine which is planted on a lot of the hills in Brisbane so in the future it will be something that stands out and then in the central courtyard we planted a Wallemi Pine – they were two key, long term plants which we then surrounded with rainforest natives and exotics to create a lot of green on green and lots of leaf texture.

Pullenvale-based Baldwin Aquatic combined the fi nest in fi nishes along with enduring style

to create this residential pool that manages to play a starring role in the home’s overall design while also complementing and enhancing the connection to the far-reaching views beyond.

Following on from the concept of the outdoor room, a key trend to emerge during 2013 has been the increasing use of traditionally exterior fi nishes in indoor applications.

Feature bricks, timber cladding and even cement sheeting are being specifi ed for internal use, with the benefi ts that originally made them such popular choices still applying.

This includes the ability to save time and money through minimal installation time along with bringing an innovative edge to the fi nished look.

The new Cemintel Designer Series off ers a range of cladding in unique modern textures and colours such as Urban Grey, as shown here.

New Hamptons Style‘New England’, ‘Hamptons’ and ‘Cape Cod’ - three similar design aesthetics that embody bright, white personal spaces and relaxed yet elegant chic.

All geographically located around the East coast of America’s Connecticut, the look translates perfectly to Queensland’s temperate climate making it a popular, timeless choice for designers and homeowners alike.

This fresher take sees dynamic turquoise take the place of so blue with quirky touches mixed in with the more traditional fi nds.
