University College Cork is committed to providing entry routes
to its Honours Degree Programmes to students who have been
awarded appropriate qualifications such as QQI FET (FETAC)
Level 5 and 6 qualifications. This brochure outlines QQI FET and
the other routes for students who wish to gain entry to Honours
Degree Programmes in UCC. The specific module requirements for
entry to each degree programme are also outlined.
Students wishing to gain entry into the first year of any of
the following UCC Programmes, apply through the Central
Applications Office (www.cao.ie).
Students seeking entry to a level beyond first year apply directly
to the Admissions Office, UCC.
Q Q I S C O R I N G
UCC only counts the best eight modules from a full Level 5/6
award. The scores from these eight modules, taken at a single
sitting, are added up to give a tally which is used to rank students
and reserved places are then offered in order of merit.
Please consult www.qqi.ie for further information on the QQI FET
(FETAC) awards system and scoring scheme.
GARDA VETTING
Students entering UCC programmes which involve placements with children
and vulnerable adults will be subject to Garda Vetting. For QQI FET entry, these
programmes include:
CK111 Early Years and Childhood Studies
CK114 Youth and Community Work
CK116 Sports Studies and Physical Education
Science Education through CK402, CK404, CK406,
CK408
All programmes in the College of Medicine
and Health

This table lists the awards eligible for entry for
the programme(s). The information provided is
the award code and award title that is linked to
the specific programme(s). Award codes begin
with 5M for level 5 awards and 6M for level 6
awards. Older awards have a different naming
convention.
D I S T I N C T I O N S R E Q U I R E D
This outlines the minimum number of distinctions
(greater than 80%) required to compete for a
place on the specified programme. These are
a minimum entry requirement and having the
required number of distinctions in the right
modules does not guarantee a place. All places
are offered on a competitive basis.
This allows you to determine for each eligible
QQI FET (FETAC) award, what the links are
to UCC programmes. The award code is
listed along with the official award title and
any associated older code for the award. It is
organised by Level 5 programmes and then
Level 6 programmes.
There is a listing for each UCC programme or
a group of programmes that outlines the:
• Eligible awards for entry into the
programme(s)
• Any specific module requirements
• Minimum number of distinctions
required
• Places available and
• Any special conditions

Some entry routes specify particular modules
that need to be undertaken at a certain grade to
satisfy entry requirements. This can be specific
modules or the choice of a number of modules.
Some programmes do not have any module
requirements. Module codes begin with 5N for
level 5 modules and 6N for level 6 modules.
Modules from older awards have a different
naming convention.
S P E C I A L C O N D I T I O N S
Some programmes require additional conditions
to satisfy the entry requirements. This could be
the undertaking of a supplementary test (e.g.
music or drama) or some other conditions as
outlined for that particular programme.
