Students studying on these programmes possess up to date design, technical and communicative skills. In their third year, our students have the option to complete a work placement to develop these skills and consolidate their learning in industry.

Academic Support

Students receive academic support throughout the module specificallytailoredtoenablethemtobeworkready.They will be trained in presentation skills and supported in developing professional attitudes and working practices.

Recruitment

The placement team in the School of Arts & Creative Industries will be happy to discuss and support all aspects of recruiting a work placement student. We can liaise over job descriptions, advertise opportunities, collate CV’s, applications and portfolios as well as assist in arranging interviews, circulating feedback etc.

We can also provide guidance on placement agreements and health and safety.

Timings

Our Design suite students can complete their work placement in Trimester 2 of their third year (January to May) and recruitment is usually conducted in November/December.

Weofferaflexiblerangeofworkplacementmodules to accommodate business requirements, project work and student needs.

Design & Media Work Based Learning (Minor) Students are required to work a minimum of 120 hours. The workcanbecarriedoutflexibly,part-timeandbescheduledto suit both the candidate and business. Ideally candidates will work one or two days per week over 12 weeks.

Design & Media Work Based Learning (Major) Students are required to work a minimum of 240 hours. The workcanbecarriedoutflexibly,part-timeandbescheduledto suit both the candidate and business. Ideally candidates will work three or four days per week over 12 weeks.

Design & Media Work Based Learning (Extended) (Not BDEs Graphic Design or BDes Design & Digital Arts) Students are required to work a minimum of 400 hours or approx. 12 weeks. The work can be carried out flexiblyandbescheduledtosuitboththecandidateand business. Ideally the candidate will work full-time over 12 weeks and can extend in to the summer.
