Narrative Text

This piece begain where my midterm left off, on the edge of a board, po-sitioning to dive. The Aquathermae Center is my exploration of water’s states of change that occure while diving. {water cycles and how this was the engergy behind my midterm] .... My research however, was on the ac-tural native environment of the space. What is less unknown of the New York landscape besides the ancient rivers and channels that flow below the city, is that this metropolitious was a metroplitian of wetlands along the East Hudson River. as a point of interest, wetlands are extreamely impor-tant to ecosystems because it promotes atmospheric maintainece through series of complex relationships between the water, micro-organisms, and plant life there. More specifically nature’s way of storing carbon in plant communities and soil instead of realing it into the atmophere as carbon dioxide. A cycle, again, involving water. I wanted to incorperate this murky history into the experience of my vision of the Aquatheremae Rehyguvenation Center.

Although most might find swamp like areas to be bug infested, disease and bacteria mustering locations, however I find beauty in the micro world. I want to make man feel small like the cells in our bodies. My idea is to create a sereies of dark spaces that evoke the sensory experience with water using such techiques s sounds, lighting effects, sculpture, and vi-sual effects ( detail). Water is a constat feaute isn the desing coming rom the floors wall, stairs, and ceilings are mini waterfalls with metalic oily effect, in the shadows of artificial space. One flows throught the space by entering thorugh doors that lead into an antrium. The hall passages diffuse the exterior light to prevent all natu-ral light from entering the interior atrum. This feature forces the human to trust their environment, and enter with a since of wonder and caution i Guest are greeted by a large structural post/sculptrual piece with light-ing effects. The entrance opens up into a froir for activies such as gath-ering and information about the hydrothermae center are given. The center sculptrue is ment to be experienced around friends and family. Small or large gathering are encouraged, and also meeting fellow neighbors and new member of the community. This pier is ment to be the new hang out center. thermal dynmics

The visitor feels small compared to the scale of this sturcture. Creat-ing masses which are bigger than the human body. juxatapositon .. eli lily building for childrens to expore in down town Indianapolis, IN. Tall incl-soed spaces. Humans are minutes compared to the scale. Magical and scien-tific things occur here and there is so much to explore, It makes you want to seek out {discover] through the design.
