The Brief For this project we designed 100 m2 ‘shell apartment’ in Battersea, South West London for a young design professional. The client wanted an open plan living space between her kitchen, dining and lounging area with ample storage, a master bedromm with ensuite bathroom, guestroom, guest bathroom, utility room and an office area she hide when she can entertain friends and family.

ConceptThe client’s design esthetic is based on well-thought out, purposefull, and considered functionality with clean lines and a minimalistic finish with a ‘curated’ touch. She has an afinity for the minimalistic design that resonates in the scandinavian and japanese esthetic but she is not committed to specific style or colour palette, I wanted to create a harmonious BALANCE of the natural elements in her space to establish a design with a purpose. By incorporating opposing elements to balance out the straight lines and simple design to ensure that that the design stays true to her nature and revolves around the swedish concept, Lagom.

Her master bedroom will be serene and calming with a luxerious en suite bathroom. The guestroom will include a working space that can be closed off when she needs to forget her work but will also have extra storage for her guests. The layout will also include a guest bathroom with a shower and storage next to a large utility rooom that can also serve as a storage area for larger items.

    Design Development

‘Lagom’ describes a balance of not too much, not too little. A balanced environment finds a dynamic equilibrium within all the components such as weight, colour, material, and light to lead the line of sight and emphasize the perception of space by juxtaposing objects with similar visual weights in a considered layout rather than justbalancing everything symmetrically. I want to ensure a cohesive harmony by balancing one element with another opposing one, with one larger space with another smaller one. This is accomplished not through symmentry but through a well thought out and purposful allocation of space and materials.

    The Brief

Our client, Sweaty Betty, has asked for a con-cept proposal for an eye catching exhibition to celebrate their brand values and create a won-derful experience for their community. The pur-pose for the exhibition is to reflect their identity, generate public and media interest, and pro-mote brand recognition. The size of the stand will be 10 x 10 meters and it will be designed for the OM Yoga Show. Concept

Sweaty Betty’s athletic wear goes beyond colourful prints och high quality materials, they are a tool for the transformation of the mind, body, and community which is built on individual connections. It is through unconditional inclusivity and connectivity we find our own empowerment in our health, mind, body, and community which is built on individual connections. Transformation is the key to empowerment, by brightening your inner light we connect with the people around us and we can support and empower our sisters.

    Design Proposal

The space will consist of one large light installation, a recharge pod, and two smaller interactive light installations. The layout is inspired by the forma-tion of a sunrise where the main light installation encircles the recharge pod which is placed in the ‘center of the sun’. The visitors can enter and exit the main installation from either side to experience how we can reinforce each other’s light through our own, symbolizing empowerment, support and inclusivity. The Recharge pod will be a chair facing a Light box where one visitor at a time can get a 5 minute light treatment so that they can ‘recharge’ their light. The spray art installation will be on the back side of the front exhibition wall where visitors can spay paint a message or piece of art that will consist of water activated lights. The second small-er light installation will be two stands where a visitor can change the colour of two LED rods by touch, making different combinations to reflect their emo-tions through colour.

    LONDON FLAT DETAILThe Brief

Our design practice is working on the interiors for the extensive refurbishment of a suburban property near London. While confirmation of planning permission is being awaited, oursenior designer has asked me to create a de-tailed design for a wall between an informal kitchen-diner and the small home-cinema room.

    Design Proposal

The design in this proposal is focused on a detailed design for a ribbon fire in an open plan dining area and a custom design for a recessed TV and integrated AV in a cinema room. The mood pictures provided have a monchromatic and neutral colour palette which create a calming effect and cohesive finish. The mood is fresh, modern, elegant, edgy, and have contrasting natural elements that yields to a warm and inviting space. There is an element of industrial detailing with minimalistic straignt lines of the steel and met-al finishes which create balance and empha-sizes the different textures in the room.

    Design Proposal

To meet this esthetic, I have focused my design on black and cream hues, by incorporating natural finishes and by using strong geometric shapes to compliment the dimensions of the space. The fireplace needs to be a visual focal point of the wall to help seperate the large open space yet still needs to blend in with the overall design esthetic. I used juxtaposing squares coming out of the wall in different limestone finishes and colours so that wherever you stand in the large open space the firepalce design feature will have different depths, di-mensions, and colour ratios. I have framed in the beau-tiful stone shapes with a natural unfinished ash wood panel and used a polished concrete on the overall wall finish to contrast all the natural materials and create a balanced design and visual harmony in the space. For the smaller cinema rooom I kept the design dark, edgy, and warm so that the room would be a great space to watch movies in. The recessed TV will be framed by a

black stained Ash hardwaood cabinetry with untreat-ed natural Ash details to create balance and highlight the different wood finishes. I will also incorporate met-al mesh on few of the cabinet doors to help give the room a bit more of an industrial feel and bring in the metal finishes. I am aiming for this design to feel clean, harmonious and solid yet not too overbearing. All of the shelfing units for the specified electronics have a metal mesh front so that the remotes can still reach the dig-ital boxes while the doors to the cabinets are closed. All these elements are integrated to give the space a sophisticated and confident design that is cool, rustic, natural and elegant.

    SOHO HOUSE

    The Brief

SOHO House has asked us to design a space for short stay accomodation and working areas and shoud foster “creativity in all its forms” and have considerations for both ‘public’and private spaces. The design will acco-modate 5 studio spaces and other creative spaces for colleagues or other members to reside in the Soho House public spaces without compromising the integrity of the residents privacy.

    Concept

The enhancement of creativity through space will enable people to connect and create and build on each other’s ideas. By linking our creative rythems with one another we can build and collaborate through the space we live in by linking inspiration through our daily flows and activities. Rythmic links is for the creatives soul.

The overall planning of the desigdn is to cater the creative professionals with a exclusive entrace followed by a welcoming lounge and individual working spaces. I have also included a creative room, printing room, bathrooms and general kitchen area for larger meals and catering events and a yoga and mediatation room on the ground floor. As you walk up the stairs to the mezzanine area I have designed a space that can be open to other SOHO member or as an event space with a private entrance to ensure that the other areas remain undistrubed.

Through out the spaces there are varying sizes of archways to create a sense of dimension in areas that are smaller and less open. By keeping these entrances door-less and with a curature I hope to achieve a sense of rythem through visual dimensions.

I have also placed marble pillars throughout the spaces. I want to give something historical new life by reimagining them with more structured and geometric forms. By placing them in a corner of a room the space gains weight and purpose and by having them on either side of the elevator entrance I hope to give something regal and significant as a nod to history and heritage that is so important to the SOHO design ethos.

I have designed an installation in the ceiling of the mezzanine where rows of light and soft fabric hanging on rails from one end to the other with fans on each end of the room which will cause the fabric to sway back and forth in a rythmic motion. I hope that by changing the movement above the vistitors, it will in turn encourage the energy of the room and ultimately cause and effect the flow of creativity by linking creative rythem.
