NORTHUMBRIA CHRISTIAN UNION

The christian union is a university society which exists to give students at university the chance to hear & respond the the good news of Jesus Christ. Whilst being a member & on the committee of the society for a year I was able to do some design work for them to promote some of the events

they put on. This included material for there 2014 freshers week events which involved designing an A5 handout which doubled up as an A3 poster to use around campus. I was also involved in the re-designing of the christian union’s website & online content throughout the year too.

LOKALE

Basic tools used by designers and architects in workshop / studio environments. Often tools end up lost and aren’t at hand when you need them, we seek to provide a product which would make it easy to access your most used tools. A place to keep your essentials, in a durable product which you’ll use day in day out.

During this project I was able to gain access to an engraving machine which allowed us to create a stamp of the logo which could be used to emboss into leather, other materials and also be used with inks & prints.

As this is a work in progress, there’s still much to do to bring the toolpouch to a finalised product which would involve sourcing a local leather supplier, finalising the technical drawings and exploring cutting & treatment techniques.

MMC-12 CHAIR

For this project I produced a full scale chair in which I had 15 hours to construct. Taking influences from Scandinavian furniture I aimed to create a chair which could be used as a lounge/occasion chair. The aesthetics of the chair derive from the restraint in materials used and clean lines produced by combing the materials.

Letting nothing distract from the pure nature of the chair. The strength comes from the legs (made from mild steel) which are the connected to the base of the chair via three countersunk screws on each side which are suppressed underneath the top 1mm layer of plywood.

WORDS WITH IMPACT

This publication was part of my design work for a Copyright firm who needed branding. This involved developing a logo, print work and promotional material. Inspired by the likes of Brockmann and the Swiss style. I wanted to create artwork that was functional but as the time created a seamless blend of photography, type and imagery. Using grid

system methods and remaining consistent throughout the work. Not detail was to small. Carefully deciding the alignment, space, and use of colour. I hoped to create a simple coherent package of design which has a clear purpose but also has flexibility for the future.

NORTHUMBRIAN WATER

Northumbrian Water the regional water supplier for the North East approached Northumbria University to tackle the problem of flooding in the region. They informed us these were often due to poor useage of the water system & after some intital research we concluded that most people aren’t aware of the problems they cause, so we sought to inform people in a playful manner.

WATERAWARE*SEEKING TO RAISE CURIOSITY

“The Wateraware project seeks to raise the awareness of sewage problems. We sought to arouse curiosity through a creative approach, developing a campaign that changes peoples bad habits for the better.”
