The block that I was to individually design was at the far end of the site. It enjoys views of both Valletta and the industrial side of
Senglea.
The building consisted of an exhibition centre for the Senglea
Historcal Society and boutique hotel rooms linked to the
other buildings on the upper levels. The main concept was to link
the industrial to the traditional.
boutiquehotel SECTION A-A
This was a fourth year project in which a boutique hotel was designed to be located in Fort Campbell in Selmun.
The site was originally designed to be camouflaged,
and this was a concept I wanted to extend to the new structure. The proposed hotel building is designed to
follow the landscape and is a walkable
extension of the intriguing landscape.

INTERIORS
japanesegarden
The culmination of the
journey occurs at the central
space where one can enjoy
the stillness within the garden.
Gravel represents the sea
while boulder-like exhibition
stands represent islands.
There is a sense of
discovery as hills and trees
hide what is to come.
Bridges challenge one with a
difficulty, in order to inspire
meditation.
Portals create a sense of
movement while
symbolically cleansing the soul
This was a fourth-year landscape architecture project in which
groups of students were to design a Japanese Garden for the Bonsai Group. The location of the garden is in Floriana, below Argotti Gardens. The garden had to include a Bonsai nursery and exhibition space while having the possibility of being used as a relaxation space by the public.
ZONING PLAN
apartment interior
The project was to design the interior
of an apartment for a young
fashion designer, inspired by
Vivienne Westwood.
Working and relaxation areas blend into each other, with a
catwalk-like element flowing through the social spaces.
This third year project was to design a new faculty of education for the University of Malta. The main concept was to have a building in
which effective education
could take place; a building where
one can be motivated and can
enjoy the experience by being in
flow.
: a central element links the factors of flow throughout the building.
Circulation spaces are distorted by coloured
reflections, creating a sense of curiosity.
This distortion also reflects one’s sense of time when in flow.
“Flow is the mental state of operation in which the
person is fully immersed in whatever he or she is
doing by a feeling of energized focus, full
involvement, and success in the process of
the activity.” Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

This group project was part of an Urbanism
credit that I took while on Erasmus at the
Università Politecnica delle Marche. It
involved the regeneration of a landslide
zone.

PLAN
SECTION A-A
This was a second year project to design the interior
and exterior of an existing shell-form shop in Piazza Tigne.
jewellerystore 4. Cash-desk 5. Store 6. Hand-crafting area
One’s first view of the jewellery is
a distorted image, which
draws the customer towards it,
only allowing a clear view after
moving around the cabinet or
peering through the top.
The changing idea of what
is to be discovered is reflected
in the kaleidoscopic image,
depending on the viewpoint.
This ever-changing element is repeated in the
customisation area where the
jewellery can be
transformed.
By fragmenting a piece of
jewellery and stripping away its intricacy, an
ever-changing,
kaleidoscopic view of
the jewellery is created
whose visual intensity draws interest towards it,
only becoming clear on
close inspection.
A fragmented image
rips a whole apart,
focusing on the detail and
giving hints, helping you
solve the puzzle.
A pixelated image
reduces the piece of
jewellery to patches of colour, creating a
sense of curiosity as to
what the image really
represents.

SECTION B-B
This was a second year project to design a public convenience in St
George’s Square, Valletta. The structure designed was reflective and
not large in size so as not to dominate the piazza. The geometry of the
seemingly random shape was brought about through a study of
proportional distances between symbolic elements of the site.

paviliondesign
This first year project
concerned the design
of a pavilion within a
given site. The main
exercise was model-
making and drafting in
ink, while developing
a visual concept into
a usable building.
chapelreuse
This project involved the conservation of
a chapel within Majjestral Park in Ghajn Tuffieha. The new use given to this chapel
was that of an interpretation centre to the natural park.
The space is kept flexible with the use of
moveable exhibition stands. An audio-visual
room at the centre of the building can also
guide the flow of people. The bell-tower is
transformed into a viewing platform through the installation of a staircase.

working models
The design of a chair
and a poster used to
advertise it was part of a
first year project. This was
mainly an exercise in
visual presentation.
I participated in this workshop, titled
“emerging space”, together with 19
other participants and 2 tutors, during the
European Architecture Students Assembly of
2011 in Cadiz, Spain.
The workshop focused on the creation of a
physical space which is constantly changing in time. We attempted to understand the
needs of the people of Cadiz and how the
city can be improved through this.
This was done by building experimental
installations, sometimes with the help of
citizens themselves, in selected spots in Cadiz
to try to generate a new quality. The
temporary structures which were created
could easily be changed depending on
observations. The main building material
was fruit crates, which were borrowed from
farmers, making this a sustainable project.
