PSA Information

Even though this film has a comedictone, the underlying true story that it isbased off of deals with a serious matter,Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).Previously known as Multiple PersonalityDisorder, DID is a mental process, whichproduces a lack of connection in aperson’s thoughts, memories, feelings, actions, or sense of identity. DID andother Dissociative Disorders are nowunderstood to be fairly common effects ofsevere trauma in early childhood, mosttypically extreme, repeated physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse.

What is DID?Dissociation is a mental process, whichproduces a lack of connection in aperson’s thoughts, memories, feelings, actions, or sense of identity. During theperiod of time when a person isdissociating, certain information is notassociated with other information as itnormally would be. For example, duringa traumatic experience, a person maydissociate the memory of the place andcircumstances of the trauma from hisongoing memory, resulting in a temporarymental escape from the fear and pain ofthe trauma and, in some cases, a memorygap surrounding the experience. Becausethis process can produce changes inmemory, people who frequently

dissociate often find their senses ofpersonal history and identity are affected.

Most clinicians believe that dissociationexists on a continuum of severity. Thiscontinuum reflects a wide range ofexperiences and/or symptoms. At one endare mild dissociative experiences commonto most people, such as daydreaming, highway hypnosis, or “getting lost” in abook or movie, all of which involve “losingtouch” with conscious awareness of one’simmediate surroundings. At the otherextreme is complex, chronic dissociation, such as in cases of Dissociative Disorders, which may result in serious impairment orinability to function. Some people withDissociative Disorders can hold highlyresponsible jobs, contributing to society ina variety of professions, the arts, and publicservice — appearing to function normallyto coworkers, neighbors, and others withwhom they interact daily.

There is a great deal of overlap ofsymptoms and experiences among thevarious Dissociative Disorders, includingDID. Individuals should seek help fromqualified mental health providers to answerquestions about their own particularcircumstances and diagnoses.

Information provided by The SidranInstitute. More information on DID can befound here at:http://www.sidran.org/didbr.html

By Johnny Wu

Being a computer geek since 1983, I’vealways found technology to befascinating. The same can be said for anykind of creative visual endeavor. Ever sinceI was young, I have been fond of creatingvisual arts that poked fun at my teachers(moku-comics), competing in artcompetitions, and organizing visual-related events (dancing, choreographedshows, etc). Slowly, this fondness hasbuilt up inside me and now enhances my creativity.

Blending art and technology is what enables me toexcel in creating a different short film style thanyou see commonly today. Each has its own genreand taste, and each is completed with the use ofmy own resources (computers, cameras, lights, andpersonal skills). All my films have a style totallydifferent from each other.

Each project has helped me to understand thedifferent areas of filmmaking and truly pushes me

to my limits by helping me strive to learn the manystyles of visual arts. All of this is possible withthe help of technology.

I hope to continue doing projects of the creativenature and also breaking rules in “indie” filmmaking. To me, making an independent film is an expressionof ideas, concepts, dreams, and sometimes evenfantasies. While transforming my stories into avisual interpretation, I also crave the need to breakthe different molds set by most independentfilmmakers. I do not play by the rules, nor createmy films based on the rules set by most people inthe filmmaking industry.

I believe in creation that is not limited by thesociety.
