Urban Escape StudiosSince we started landscaping gardens in Sussex over twenty years ago, we have met many clients wanting to work from home, or needing space for their hobbies and interests outside work.

We established Urban Escape Studios in 2008 to combine our love of gardens and the outdoors, with clever design and environmentally friendly construction to make the best use of the space we have around us.

Urban Escape Studios are designed to suit you and your individual lifestyle. Our garden rooms and offices are the perfect space to work or relax in, being beautifully constructed, environmentally friendly, and great to look at too.

We have built dozens of garden rooms in and around Sussex, and they are used as home offices, gyms, guest rooms, yoga studios, playrooms, music and art studios, therapy rooms, and much more.

The DesignOur team will visit your home to discuss what you want from your garden studio, and advise on the best layout, shape of studio, materials

and finishes, and other extras. We will measure and survey the area and will answer

any questions you might have about the build, timelines and payment.

The Construction We clean up the site at the end of each day, and aim to keep disruption to a minimum for you and

your neighbours. Our fantastic team can build one of our smaller studios in one week, and the largest in two weeks, so you won’t have to wait

long to move into your perfect garden room!

The QuoteOur studio design details the size, materials and the associated quote. We undertake all works, from digging foundations to installing electrics, plumbing, heating and decorating, so there are

no additional costs.

The DepositOnce you are ready to go ahead withe the build,

we request a 10% deposit to secure your booking. The deposit is refundable up to a month before work is scheduled to start.

The whole package

The FoundationsWe use heavy duty concrete pile foundations which lift the studio off the ground, leaving a

breathable space, removing the risk of rising damp and condensation. Depending on the size of your

garden room there will be 9-24 piles, and the underside of the studios are protected by a

moisture barrier.

The InteriorOur studio walls and ceiling are plaster boarded, skim-coated and painted in two coats of white

emulsion. Commercial grade laminate flooring is fitted over an underlay as standard and can be

upgraded to engineered oak, carpet or rubber. We fit wall lights and double sockets internally, and

up/down lighters externally.

The StructureThe floor, walls and roof are constructed using

170mm thick structurally insulated panels (SIPs) which offer highly efficient thermal values and

exceptional strength. They make our studios warm in the winter and cool in the summer, with good

sound-proofing.

The RoofWe use single ply rubber (EPDM) which is fully

adhered to the roof and finished with black trim. All of our studios can have a planted sedum roof,

which not only looks spectacular when flowering, but also offers a sanctuary to insects, bees and

birds and helps insulate your garden room.

Astana Our original and most popular range, with clean elegant lines.

Abri Includes 60cm roof overhang on the front of the studio.

Abode Includes corner doors with full length glass panels.

Let’s create your perfect garden roomWe have many additional options for you to tailor your studio and its surroundings to your taste.

Silvered Western red cedar Oiled Western red cedar cladding

Cladding Our standard Western red cedar cladding silvers naturally over time, but can be oiled to keep the warm red colouring. Other options include Siberian larch which can be painted in a variety of colours or composite cladding.

Landscaping The Urban Escape Studios team includes a professional garden designer and experienced landscapers who can transform your garden while your studio is being built, ensuring your new outdoor room sits perfectly in your garden.

Extras We want to help create your perfect space, so let us know if you want us to add a bathroom, kitchen or sauna, or if you want to include a log burner, underfloor heating or air conditioning.

As standard, all our buildings are fitted with double glazed uPvc French doors and a top-hung picture window. We have a variety of doors and windows for your garden room, including aluminium French and bi-fold doors, additional windows, and roof lights.

We will discuss options with you during the initial planning stages, and associated costs will be included in our quote.
