RAUKANTEX MATERIALSAT A GLANCE

Discover the variety of RAUKANTEX edgeband materials:

RAUKANTEX in PPThis ecologically safe material has become a firmly established material in virtually all furniture ranges over the last few years. It uses less energy during manufacturing and can later be recycled or incine-rated. During incineration it only produces carbon dioxide and water (as per natural gas). RAUKANTEX PP is suitable for use on all conventional edgeban-ding machines in a continuous operation or on CNC machinery. The patented universal primer system guarantees optimum bonding of the edgeband with EVA, PA and PUR-based hot-melt adhesive types. The edgeband material is UV light fast (at least to level 7 of the wool scale EN IsO 4892-2, Process B), is extremely resistant to heat, has a low shrinkage and is resistant to solvents. some applications, such as tight radii on the processing centre, are only possible with RAUKANTEX PP.

RAUKANTEX in PMMAPolymethylmethacrylate is a hard material with a high scratch resistance. RAU-PMMA edgeband is therefore particularly robust and durable. Furthermore, the edgeband is UV resistant, light fast, at least to level 7 of the wool scale to EN IsO 4892-2, process B and can be incinerated or recycled. As a natural material RAU-PMMA is clear, whereby all transparent, translucent and muted tones can be adjusted. RAU-PMMA edgeband can be processed on all usual edgebanders

RAUKANTEX in PETPolyethyl-terephthalate is a hard, highly transparent polymer material with good light fastness ≥ level 6 to EN IsO 4892-2, Process B. RAU-PET is physiologically safe and in Cat. 2 of the PAK requirements and is also classified in the fire classification UL 94 HB. Processing waste can be incinerated or recycled.

RAUKANTEX in ABSABs is another member of the thermoplastic materials family for edgeband. This impact, light and heat resistant material can be recycled or incinerated. ABs is also chlorine-free. ABs is as easy to process as PVC and can be processed on all usual edgebanders.

RAUKANTEX in PVCPVC is more versatile than any other material and has formed the basis for edgeband for decades: RAUKANTEX in PVC has universal material properties, which makes this material the most used edgeband material worldwide. PVC is easy to process, self-extinguishing, light fast to at least level 7, has good chemical resistance, can be recycled and, if burned correctly, incinerated. Furthermore, PVC with its low primary energy consumption during manufacture and low eco and human toxicity in water marks it as one of the materials with a good eco-balance.

RAUKANTEX LASER EDGEPURE POLYMER – TOTAL SEAMLESS INTEGRATION

Edgeband materials for laser technology

Ever increasing demands on design and appearance as well as high product quality and functionality play a significant role in furniture production. The revolutionary process of laser welding represents a key piece of technology for fulfilling these requirements.

This innovative technology makes it possible to bond the edgeband and board permanently, without seams and without adhesive whilst optimising the production process.

During the process of bonding the edgeband and board together the usual adhesive component in the production equipment is replaced with a highly efficient laser. This melts the polymer functional layer to the bottom of the co-extruded edgeband material and bonds the components together per-

manently. This makes it possible to completely do away with adhesive in edgeband processing and to create a permanently invisible seam between the board and the edgeband.

The previous distracting glue seam which had mostly negatively influenced the overall appearance due to rubbing down, becoming dirty and yellowing is completely eliminated as a result of this. This creates a high quality appearance with seam-less integration.

RAUKANTEX basic-edge – the supporting edge

Thicker worktops in the kitchen, more stable furniture sides and frames, overhang look for cover boards and table tops - there is one solution to fulfil this variety of customer requirements and to ensure optimum handling of the components: RAUKANTEX basic edge. The edge enables even thinner surface layers to be created using lightweight construction boards. On one hand it connects the lightweight surfaces to each other and on the other offers a solid basis for the

application of the decorative edgeband. In addition to this, RAUKANTEX basic edge ensures the required pressure stability and guarantees smooth machine processing of the lightweight construction boards.

RAUKANTEX soft – soft closure sealing technology The RAUKANTEX soft sealing edgeband makes soft lines out of hard edges. The edgeband is applied to two or four sides of the narrow surfaces, where they can be processed on the butt joint or mitre.

The specially developed buffer element which is applied to the edge insulates the sound of impact when closing cabinet doors, sliding doors and dra-wers and offers protection from dust and dirt. RAU-KANTEX soft is available in PP and PVC in a wide range of designs and colours. In addition to this, RAUKANTEX soft is perfectly matched in colour to those displayed in the decorative design combination board collections. The edgeband is also available exstock as part of the REHAU EXPREss COLLECTION in selected dimensions, colours and decorative designs.

Antimicrobial surfaces – no chance for bacteria and germs in hygiene-relevant areas, e.g. in hospitals or in the food industry, antimicrobial materials are of extremely great importance. The innovative edgeband has its area of application here.

The ABs edgeband with antimicrobial additive in the lacquer layer has been able to demonstrate a strong bactericide effect against certain bacteria. The growth of bacteria is inhibited and the establishment of bacteria is prevented.

RAUKANTEX flex edge – extremely adaptable RAUKANTEX flex edge is an extremely durable, impact resistant and flexible edgeband. Thanks to its elasticity the edgeband itself is very easy to manage even with the smallest radii below 35 mm and fits perfectly.

The innovative PP formulation has a wide range of processing possibilities and is fully recyclable, odourless, heat-resistant and physiologically harm-less. A variety of decorative print or embossing is available. There are no limits even regarding colour. RAUKANTEX flex edge covers the whole gloss level spectrum.

RAUKANTEX floor - flexible workplace design Flexible organisation of working areas is needed not only in areas of production but also in offices. Communication and power cables need to be integrated into the office environment.

Raised floor systems offer the greatest number of options for quick and flexible installation of cables. REHAU’s comprehensive range of tooling and technical expertise means that we can find edgeband solutions for all conventional raised floor systems. If there is a fire, the edgeband expands to seal the panels together. All material and board types are tested for creak resistance and eliminate static. They can also be printed with your company logo.

RAUKANTEX lite – unusual light display On the shelf in the living room, on the bathroom furniture on the kitchen worktops, but also in shop fitting - indirect lighting provides a special feel-good factor and stylish ambience.

With the new RAUKANTEX lite REHAU offers an inno-vative edgeband which - in addition to its conventional application - can also be used as back-lighting.

In order to achieve this application, a cavity must be milled into a chip or MDF board (38 or 50 mm wide). An LED band (optionally also an RBg band) is inserted into the cavity. The minimum covering layer is 8 mm. The translucent edge in the centre is applied to the board. In the case of free shapes on the BAZ [edgebanding centre] (glue application to the edge) a recessed glue application roller must be used which leaves the central area of the edge free.

When switching on the LEDs the light is transmitted through the translucent areas of the edgeband. The application can also be modified to suit a honeycomb board.

Lacquered edgebands The use of lacquered surfaces provides furniture manufacturers with big advantages for small series production in particular. A cost saving can be achieved in the production process in comparison to pure MDF primarily by lacquering edged chipboards.

Here the application area of the lacquered RAUKANTEX edgeband starts with a specially developed formulation for optimum lacquer adhesion. It is designed on the covering and full-surface lacquering with conventional lacquer types.

The advantages of using RAUKANTEX laser edge are expanded further for over-lacquering due to a quality of the end product which leaves nothing to be desired. The use depends on the material, but must also be tested at the customer for individual lacquer solutions.
