Teams
Teams will be created by instructors Real World environment Work with diverse group including students
from other majors
Peer review will be conducted midway through the project and at the end of project, which will effect course grade Teamwork lecture will cover this in more depth

Design Contest
Sun God Robot Contest
The first MAE3 robot contest related to UCSD’s Sun God, and we repeat the tradition 10 years later
Playing Field
• Each robot starts in a starting area on opposing sides of the stadium• Rings are held in holders on both sides of the table.• A center ring will roll to whichever side has a ring removed first• The robot starting size is limited to a 10 inch cube

Contest Scoring
• 1 points for every ring removed from the holder
• 5 points for every ring that is placed on the Sun God’s wing
• 10 points for every ring that is placed on the Sun God’s crown
• Tie breaker rings are worth double in all categories, and also break ties.
Some Rules
Scoring for fan placement will take place after the 1 minute contest, and all parts have stopped moving.All referee rulings are final.
Contest Overview
Each team will build a robot using parts from a kit including DC motors, a solenoid, timing belts, Aluminum and Acrylic parts, and …The maximum starting robot size is define by starting boxThe robot will be completely controlled by electrical switches
Some More Rules
The robot may not damage the playing fieldRobots may interact with each other, but cannot intentionally damage another machineAny safety hazards will be disqualified.

If you cannot make final’s time your team can run your robot, and you can show instructor improvements at other time in finals week.
Team Formation
Teams will be assigned randomly (you don’t get to choose your team members in industry) If there is someone in your section that you do not want to work with, then send your tutor an email a week before teams are formed.
