R.V.College of Engineering, Bangalore
R.V.College of Engineering (RVCE), Bengaluru,India, is one of India's premier technical institutes.
Established in 1963, RVCE is celebrating its Golden
Jublee this year. The college currently has about5200 students and over 400 faculty and 250 supportingstaff. RVCE currently offers 12 Bachelor& 22 Master
programs (~annual intake of about 1750 students), and
carries out research and consultancy activities in all the15 departments, with provision for PhD Studies.RVCE has set a vision Leadership in Quality
Techni cal Education, Research & Innovation,
through Teamwork, wi th a f ocus on Development of
Sustainable and I nclusive Technology. RVCE is anAutonomous Institution affiliated to VisweswarayaTechnological University, Belgaum. The institute has
been rated among the top 6 institutions in India forIndustry-Academic Collaboration by the recent(Nov,2012) AICTE-CII-PWC survey. Over 22companieshave invested in labs and facilitated course
in the college. The facultyis actively involved in R &D activities (~ 100 projects) and consultancy incollaboration with public and private agencies withfunding to tune ofover Rs 30 Crores.
Dept.of Electronics & Communication Engg.
The Electronics & Communication Engineeringdepartment was established in the year 1972. Thedepartment offers a B.E. Program (intake of 180) and2 M.Tech programs; one in VLSI Design &
Embedded Systems, and the other in CommunicationSystems. The programs in the department are one ofthe most sought after programs under VTU. TheDepartment is recognized as a research center byVTU.The department has many funded projects invarious areas including Communication, Signal
processing, VLSI, Large Area & FlexibleMicroelectronics, MEMS, Vacuum Nanoelectronics,Solar Cells, Sensors and Emerging ElectronicMaterials & Devices and Pico & Nano Satellites.
The department was part of an intercollegiate teaminvolved in developing and launching Indias First
Pico Satellite. The department is also a part of aninterdisciplinary team at RVCE, includingTelecommunication, Instrumentation, Physics,Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical & Biotechnology insetting up Indias First fabrication facility for Large
area & Flexible Microelectronics (Macroelectronics)& Vacuum Nanoelectronics among EngineeringColleges. E&C department also host labs from
companies including Intel, Texas Instruments, NXPand Freescale Semiconductors.

The topics covered in the workshop include:
Design of Thin film Transistors, Diodes, Solarcells, sensors and Hands-on training on
modeling and characterization of TFT, sensors
using Silvaco/TCAD tool.
Various concepts of RTL Synthesis, STA andHands-on training on Digital Synthesis Flow
and Static Timing Analysis using Cadence tools.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:Large Area and FlexibleMicroelectronics(LAFM)is the key enabler of allmodern day ICT facilitating technologies includingflat panel displays, touchscreens, photocopiers, scanners, printers, medical imaging systems for X-rays, and cameras. Flexible electronics deals withcircuits developed using Thin Film Transistors(TFT).The International Technology Roadmap forSemiconductors (ITRS) envisages that of the
expected over $5 trillion growth in thesemiconductor and electronics industry by 2030,
based on the More Than More (MTM) paradigm, large area and flexible microelectronics is expectedto be key enabler of all man-machine and machine-environment related activities to the tune of $4Trillion. Thus LAFM is predicted in future to beall pervading including healthcare, environmentalmonitoring, entertainment, display, humanmachine interactivity, energy conversion &management, storage, communication and wirelessnetworks.
Synthesis is a process by which an abstract level ofspecification is converted into a designimplementation in terms of logic gates. StaticTiming analysis is a procedure with which analysisof the timing parameters of the netlist are
performed without the need for simulation. Thisinvolves delay calculations at various stages of thedesign cycle, such as synthesis, layout etc.
The workshop hopes to combine conventionalVLSI design aspects along with the keyfundamental features of LAFM and give a brief
overview of this emerging futuristic area ofelectronics. Especially showcasing, how with alittle bit of effort, we could engage in trulyadvanced area of technology even in our ownacademic environment and develop novel devicesand system such as System on Chip (SoC) andSystem in Package (SiP).
Visit to some of the growth and characterizationfacilities in the campus related to LAFM. Theworkshop will be conducted by experts fromIndustr , R&D and Academia.
