The objective of this design
To convert the solar energy to the electrical energy by using solar
cells, then Converting this electrical energy to mechanical energy
by using dc motor to run the Bicycle beside the human
paddling.
What is solar energy?
Solar power is electricity produced directly from sunlight. Solar
thermal power refers to a process where the suns energy heats a
working fluid that eventually is used to do work in an engine or a
turbine. Solar photovoltaic power (PV) takes advantage of the
photovoltaic effect so that when sunlight hits a PV panel, it
releases electrons from special layers of silicon and pushes them
across an electric field.
These electrons then travel through an external circuit to return
to their initial state, and in the process create electric
current.
Why solar energy?
- Adding a solar electric system in your home or business is an
easy way to take advantage of regional incentives, invest in your
home or businesses' value and protect the environment by using
clean renewable energy.
Throughout the world, the combination of the price of electricity,
available free sunshine, and incentives offered by local and state
governments now position grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) as an
attractive investment.
- Once considered to be too expensive, today's PV systems produce
electricity that has a quantifiable cash value.
How does a solar cell work?
1-Solar Panels convert sunlight directly into electricity.
2-Inverter converts the solar electricity (DC) into household
current (AC) that can be used to power loads in the house.
3--System Monitor is an easy-to-read digital meter that shows the
homeowner the amount of electricity generated both cumulatively and
daily.
4-Utility Meter tracks power usage and production, spinning forward
when electricity is used from the grid, and spinning backwards,
generating a credit, when the solar system creates more electricity
than is used in the house.
Flashlight Beam Analogy
The more perpendicular a flashlight beam is to a wall,
the brighter the beam on the wall, and the less area the beam
covers.
Area of ground receiving the ray on flat ground (B)
is larger than area on Sun-facing slope (A).
Thus more energy is received per unit area on the slope.
Advantages:
1- Completely zero-emission.
2- Silent.
3- Renewable.
4- No fuel is consumed therefore the power is "free".
5- Panels warranted for 20-25 years.
6- Extremely simple design with no moving parts
7- Excellent for remote cabins or homes.
8- Independent of utility price fluctuations
Disadvantages:
1- Initial purchase price is high.
2- Storage batteries will need to be replaced after about 3-5
years.
Facts about Solar energy:
A 1 kilowatt home solar system installed costs about 33000SR.
A 1 kilowatt system take 1 day to install.
A sunny location receives about 5.5 hours of sunlight on average
throughout the year.
A cloudy location receives about 2.5 hours of sunlight on average
throughout the year.
The main components of a solar home system are the solar panel,
an inverter, a battery, wiring, and support structure.
A typical silicon cell Solar panel will have a life in excess of 20
years.
A solar energy system can provide electricity 24 hours a day.
Solar modules DO produce electricity on cloudy days.
A typical high power solar module generates 100 Watts and measures
about 60 cm by 120 cm
What is SOLAR BIKE?
-These are bicycles to which an electric motor, battery, and a
solar panel have been added to assist the human power provided by
the rider.
-In competition, solar bikes derive about half of their energy from
the rider and half from the electric system.
-Top bikes are averaged more than 40 km/hr.
Why We choose the TRICYLE?
- The idea of this project is to develop this type.
- To let it easer in use.
- more efficient and more comfortable.
- there are many components used in this design for that we will
choose the TRICYCEL to overcome the suitable space.
- carrying more component and it help to hold this component
safely
NEED ANALYSIS
- The bicycle is one of the important need in transport , some
country use the bicycle as alternative of the cars
- There is a wide range of bicycle user, some use the bicycle for
transportation, and some use it in racing or just for fun
- The human power is too weak comparing with machine power , and
the rider could suffer from a fatigue so there is a need for an
additional source of power to solve this problem
- There is a need for a green energy , one kind of this energy is
the solar energy. Which is clean and easy to get , specially in our
environment.
- Must people, on there drive to work, go less than 70 km the ring
and speed of the solar bicycle is perfect for such task? It is
cleaner and you never have to buy gas or change the oil.

Tricycle wheels, 50.9cm diameter.
Solar panels, 12 volt, 87 W
Motor, dc motor, 12 volt, Maximum load current is 175 mA. Power
rating is 1.4 W .
Battery, 12 volt, 70W
Charging time, 10 hr
Maximum speed , 15 km
How it works?
Solar panels transfer energy to 12 volt deep cell batteries located
on the bike's frame just below the chair. From there, a small
electric motor between the rear wheels powers the bike. The whole
system is on a continuous feedback loop, enabling the bike to
partially recharge while in use thus extending the bike's range. A
simple gearbox located between the motor and the chain gear which
gives you variable speed control.
The rider can switch from pedal power to solar power easily, and
when not in use, the solar panels continue to recharge the
batteries. The motor's maximum is 1/2-horsepower.
