Description of Project - Advanced Technology Building

This project involves the new construction of an advanced technology building (approximately 55,000 SF) on the campus of Victor Valley Community College. It also includes a new bridge and associated sitework.

Site preparation includes removal of asphalt paving, concrete paving, concrete curb, site clearing and grading. It also includes excava-tion of basement and imported backfill.

Site development includes asphalt paving, con-crete paved fire lane, concrete paving, con-crete curb, concrete ramp, site drainage, site lighting, allowance for land-scaping and maintenance, concrete retaining wall, metal guardrail, metal handrail, concrete stairs and railing, road markings, exterior sign-age, concrete seat and mis-cellaneous accessories.

Site utilities includes domes-tic and fire water, site gas distribution, meter and seis-mic shut-off valve, sewage, central plant well water and chilled water distribution, temporary cooling tower con-nection, main normal power feeders, telecommunication feeders and trade demolition, including protection and rerouting of existing lines.

Concrete includes reinforced concrete column bases, wall footings, and elevator pit. It also includes reinforced concrete columns, retaining walls, slab on grade, concrete curb, equipment pads, concrete topping and finish, concrete stairs and architectural concrete topping at deck surface.

Masonry include reinforced concrete block.

Steel includes steel framing, metal decking,

metal fascia, metal guardrail and miscellane-ous metals. It also include metal stairs and railings, and elevator pit ladder.

Wood and plastic includes plywood sheathing, base cabinet, wall cabinet, knee space and countertops.

Thermal and moisture protection includes wa-terproofing, rigid insulation, batt insulation, built-up roofing, metal tile roofing, walkway pads, cant strip, cover flashing, metal gutter, metal coping, roof hatch, caulking and sealant.

Doors and windows includes exterior aluminum framed windows with insulated glazing, interior aluminum win-dows and glazing, aluminum glazed doors, metal doors, slid-ing glass door, revolving door, wood door, and roll-up door.

Finishes include partitions of metal furring, metal stud fram-ing, gypsum board, gypsum board sheathing, and shaft liner. Finishes of carpet, ce-ramic tile, vinyl composition, sheet vinyl, quarry tile, con-crete sealer, carpet tile, carpet mat, column cover, acoustical tile and paint.

Specialties include corner guards, toilet parti-tions, toilet and bathroom accessories, grab bars, mirrors, shelving, markerboards, interior signage, fire extinguisher and cabinets, tele-phone enclosure and shelf, entrance mat, pro-jection screens, display case, horizontal blinds, receptionist desk and access flooring.

Plumbing includes sanitary fixtures and rough-in, backflow preventor, condensate drainage, water heater (gas and electric), industrial cold water, gas distribution and surface water drain-age, including elevator drainage.


Description of Project - Advanced Technology Building

Heating, ventilating and air conditioning in-cludes gas fired boiler, thermal expansion and circulation, hydronic distribution, air handling units, including split heat pumps and fancoil units, sound attenuation, terminal VAV reheat boxes, air distribution supply, return and ex-haust ductwork, underground concrete en-cased ductwork, diffusers, registers and grilles, DDC controls and instrumentation, testing and balancing, and unit ventilation exhaust.

Electrical includes main normal power distribu-tion, machine and user convenience power, lighting and power specialties, telephone/data including conduit and cable, centralized clocks, A/V security conduit only and fire alarm sys-tem.

Fire protection includes complete automatic wet sprinkler system.

Pictures are taken frequently during construction. The following pages represent activities that took place during the month of June 2006. Photos are taken on a digital camera and then transferred to CD-ROM for archiving. At the completion of the project, the CD-ROM (s) will be transmitted to the Maintenance and Operations Department for future reference. Besides creating a visual diary of the construction activities, they serve as a reference for future work that may need to be done. Locations of utilities, valves, clean-outs, storm drain trenches, and grading activities are typically cataloged. By utilizing the latest technology in monitoring the projects, Cal K-12 assures that the information will be accessible when the next modernization or upgrades are performed at campuses throughout the District.
