Student Input We recently had 49 of our 52 students from Year 5 to Year 12 complete the student Attitudes to School Survey. This survey provides schools with valuable data on students’ views of their wellbeing, teaching and learning and school in general, in order to support school improvement. The results should be available in July. NAPLAN The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual national assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. All students in these year levels are expected to participate in tests in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. NAPLAN is the measure through which governments, education authorities, schools, teachers and parents can determine whether or not young Australians are meeting important educational outcomes in Literacy and Numeracy. We urge you to ensure that your children are at school on the testing days Tuesday May 12
th Language Conventions and Writing, Wednesday 13
th May Reading and
Thursday 14th May Numeracy.
2014 Annual Report to the School Community School Council will present the 2014 Annual Report to the School Community at 7.00pm on Wednesday the 17
th of June. The Annual Report is prepared to inform parents and the wider school community of the
School’s successes, activities and achievements throughout the year. Please contact the College for a copy of 2014 Annual Report, view it on the school website or you are welcome to attend the presentation evening in June. New Smoking Bans New regulations regarding smoking in Victoria came into effect from the 13
th of April 2015. Smoking is
banned within four metres of an entrance to all primary and secondary schools in Victoria, and within the school grounds, under an amendment to the Tobacco Act 1987. A similar ban applies to the entrances and grounds of Victorian child care centres and kindergartens. We thank you for your cooperation in complying with these new regulations. Parents and Friends Last term an article inviting parents interested in reconvening the Parents and Friends Association was in the school newsletter. Unfortunately, we had no calls from parents regarding the 2 office bearer positions or membership. Therefore, the Parents and Friends Association will go into ‘recess’ until the School Council Election process in March 2016. Every Day Counts Student attendance is a key performance indicator of student engagement and wellbeing and we are striving to improve our attendance rates and minimise our student absence rates. Thanks to all of the parents who advise us when their child/ren are absent. We hope the SMS messaging system is a convenient method of communication.

Mr Smith’s Maths Problem!
Gym and fitness equipment needed!!
Last week’s question was:
I am a 2 digit number that can be divided by 2 with no remainder. My first digit is double my second digit.
My 2 digits add up to 6. What number am I?
ANS: 42
For those who wish to get their mathematical minds thinking, try finding an answer to this week’s question:
A class of 23 students has 7 more boys than girls in it. How many girls are there in the class?
Students of the Week Campbell Greig for his great reading work.
Liam Harper for his great persuasive writing.
Student Banking
Derrinallum P-12 College is currently undergoing construction to build a gym/fitness
centre for the students. We are already in possession of some equipment to be used,
however, we are asking that if you no longer need or want equipment you have at home
or know somebody wishing to get rid of equipment, the school and the students would
greatly appreciate donations. Coming Soon!
School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Run through participating schools nationally, children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens which they can redeem for exciting rewards. At Derrinallum P-12 College, students can bank each Tuesday.
