When Terry Vredenburgh joined Dermatologist Medical Group of North County(DMGNC) as the CEO in 2007, she had a wealth of experience in revenue cyclemanagement, having overseen revenue cycle at nine clinics in over three counties. When she started with DMGNC, the practice had already outsourced their billing withthe same company for many years.

Unfortunately, their accounts receivable was not in good shape. “I was appalled athow poorly the accounts receivable was,” said Vredenburgh. “So one of my first taskswas to look for a billing company that would capture some of the money that wasbeing lost - it was like a sieve and money was dropping through, it was crazy.”

While looking for a new revenue cycle company, Vredenburgh began speaking withCHMB. She knew the points that a billing company should be hitting and CHMB’sexperts hit all of those points. “I focused my search on CHMB and was really pleasedwith what I found,” said Vredenburgh.

CHMB’s clean follow up rules for claims was another reason Vredenburgh decided topartner with CHMB. “Everything was automated - if a claim didn’t get paid in a certainnumber of days, then CHMB had someone working on it. Claims are able to be tracked ina system and there are clear tracking guidelines for those accounts receivables, which isan absolute necessity,” said Vredenburgh.

Vredenburgh Views CHMB’s Team as an Extension of Her Internal CBOThe ability for DMGNC’s internal team to work closely together with CHMB’s RCM team on aregular basis was key to DMGNC’s improvements in workflow and financial performance.“One of the things I like about CHMB’s RCM team, and I see them as my team, is that we worktogether to improve workflows on both sides. I meet with my Account Manager once amonth, in-house, face to face, which is great,” said Vredenburgh.

DMGNC’s Account Manager goes the extra mile for DMGNC and in one scenario brought ina CHMB RCM expert in-house at DMGNC to train their team on an issue they were facingregarding subscriber ID prefixes. “She went the extra step and brought in her expert to teachmy staff on how to look at those prefixes and it helped all of us,” said Vredenburgh.

DMGNC not only works closely with CHMB’s RCM team, but they collaborate with CHMB’sClient Services and IT teams. For instance, CHMB’s IT team developed a modulespecifically for DMGNC that was designed to work alongside their Allscripts PM. “Before weadopted EHR in 2012, we had needs for modules that we didn’t have. We have adermapathologist on staff and we diagnose our own slides in-house. We needed a way oftracking and reporting from diagnosis to treatment, which was not a component of thesoftware. Since we see a lot of skin cancers, it is imperative that every biopsy is accounted for,”said Vredenburgh. The module that CHMB created was essential for patient care and served asa bridge to the billing side.

CHMB: Working With Your Team to Deliver All of Your Practice’s NeedsSince working with CHMB in 2009, DMGNC found that not only does CHMB perform their RCMservices, CHMB’s other teams collaborate to bring solutions. “There are so many benefits to theCHMB team that go beyond their RCM. They were more than just an RCM team - they were ableto meet the needs of other parts of our practice,” said Vredenburgh. As an expert in RCM, Vredenburgh knew that CHMB was a great fit for DMGNC, “With my previous experience, I knowwhat to look for in an RCM team and CHMB meets all those points.”
