Duanne Olivier took eight wickets in the match to inspire

Derbyshire to a 101-run victory over Middlesex on the opening day

of the season at The County Ground.

Luis Reece also hit an unbeaten 157 on Day Three to put the hosts in a

commanding position, before Olivier took 4-82 on the final day to steer

Derbyshire to their first home win in the Specsavers County

Championship since September 2014.

The hosts were put into bat on the opening morning, and they were

reduced to 167-7 before a quick-fire 60 from Hardus Viljoen propelled

Derbyshire to a first innings total of 265.

Viljoen hit nine boundaries, including four sixes, as he and Tony

Palladino (25) put on a vital eighth wicket stand of 81 runs from 92 balls.

Derbyshire’s bowling attack wasted no time taking wickets, as Middlesex

faltered to a total of 157, with Derbyshire taking a healthy 108-run lead

into the second innings.

Olivier claimed first innings figures of 4-26, alongside Palladino (2-28)

and Ravi Rampaul (2-43) as only six Middlesex batsmen notched

double figure scores.

Openers Ben Slater and Reece started the second innings strongly, but

the former fell one short of his century as the pair put on a 219-run

opening wicket stand.

Reece continued, remaining unbeaten on 157 while Wayne Madsen (52)

also added a half-century before the hosts declared on 333-3 to set

Middlesex a target of 441.

Viljoen and Olivier continued their fine form to reduce the visitors to 95-

5, before a resilient 65-run partnership between Paul Stirling (42) and

John Simpson (24).

There were also spirited efforts from James Harris (64 not out), Toby Roland-Jones (46) and Tom Helm (52) but ultimately Middlesex fell 102 runs short of the required total.

Gary Wilson hit an unbeaten 64 as Derbyshire drew with

Leicestershire in a rain-affected match at the Fischer County

Ground.

Luis Reece also took 3-58 on day three whilst there were also notable

contributions with the bat from Hardus Viljoen (43) and Alex Hughes

(42) before Derbyshire declared on 251-8.

With no play possible on the first two days, Derbyshire battled well in

tough conditions to take five wickets for 114 runs on the final day and

earn maximum bowling points, taking 10 points from the match.

Derbyshire chose to bowl first, but the hosts started strongly as Michael

Carberry (45) and Paul Horton (66) put on an opening-wicket

partnership of 94, before Reece got the breakthrough to remove both.

Reece then took his third as Leicestershire slipped to 179-3 before Colin

Ackermann, Ned Eckersley (54), Neil Dexter (47) and Ben Raine (47) all

added useful runs with the bat to help the home side reach a total of 381

all out.

Derbyshire’s response got off to a slow start as both Reece and Wayne

Madsen fell without scoring as the visitors slipped to 9-2.

Ben Slater scored 27 to pass 3,000 career first-class runs before falling

to Raine shortly after, caught behind by Eckersley.

Spirted efforts from Alex Hughes (42) and Gary Wilson (64 not out)

steadied the ship as the pair brought up their half-century partnership.

Wilson continued his fine form alongside good contributions from Matt Critchley (38) and a quick-fire 43 from Hardus Viljoen to accelerate the innings before Derbyshire declared on 251-8 to bring the match to an end.

Wayne Madsen hit 144 on day one but Derbyshire fell to an eight-

wicket defeat against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

Madsen was at his fluent best to reach his 26th first-class century for the

Club with ease, while Matt Critchley also took 3-68 in the first innings and

Ben Slater top scored with 68 on day three.

It was the hosts who got off to a strong start as Derbyshire were reduced to

84-4 before Madsen steadied the ship for Derbyshire.

The South African found a partner in Gary Wilson, as the pair came togeth-

er for a vital partnership to double the score before the wicketkeeper-

batsman was caught at slip for 34.

Madsen continued to accelerate the innings for the visitors as he reached

his 26th first-class century for the Club with a trademark sweep for four.

Matt Critchley (30) also contributed with the bat, before Duanne Olivier

joined compatriot Madsen at the crease to add a valuable 40 runs and earn

a third bonus batting point, as Derbyshire were all out for 318.

Olivier got an early breakthrough in Warwickshire’s reply to leave the score

at 18-1, before strong partnerships between Will Rhodes (50), night-

watchman Chris Wright (72) and Ian Bell (44) saw the hosts recover to 172

-3.

There were also big contributions from Jonathan Trott (76), Matthew Lamb

(79) and Tim Ambrose (40) as the hosts took a 121-run lead after the first

innings.

Luis Reece and Madsen then fell early as Derbyshire were reduced to 10-

2, before Ben Slater battled alongside Alex Hughes (38) to recover to 98-3.

Slater reached his half-century, but he was out to Jeetan Patel for 68 be-

fore Wilson (13) fell four balls later as the visitors slipped to 138-6.

Viljoen hit a quick-fire 44, but Derbyshire faltered to a total of 209, leaving

Warwickshire 89 runs to win.

Derbyshire were given some hope when Olivier took the early wicket of

Rhodes (4) in the third over, before Critchley removed Sibley (7) to reduce

the hosts to 29-2.

However, Bell (34 not out) and Trott (35 not out) played resolutely to guide Warwickshire to an eight-wicket victory.

Both sides scored heavily as Derbyshire drew with Durham at The

County Ground.

Wayne Madsen, Matt Critchley, Billy Godleman and Ben Slater all hit half-

centuries in the first innings, before Tony Palladino took 4-87 on day three.

The hosts started well as Slater and Luis Reece powered to a century

partnership to put Derbyshire in a good position on day one.

Slater (55) then fell to Nathan Rimmington, before Reece (48) and Alex

Hughes were also dismissed in quick succession as Derbyshire were

reduced to 126-3.

Madsen (85), Critchley (64) and Godleman (61) advanced the score to 346-6,

before Daryn Smit and Palladino came together to add further valuable runs.

Their partnership was worth 62 runs before Palladino (29) was bowled by

Cameron Steel, as Smit (45 not out) ran out of partners with Derbyshire

posting a first-innings total of 427.

Steel and Aiden Markram (30) responded well in Durham’s reply, reaching

their fifty partnership before Hardus Viljoen removed the latter and Will Smith

shortly after without scoring.

Duanne Olivier then dismissed Steel for 31, as Graham Clark and Paul

Collingwood added a 54-run partnership before both fell in quick succession

as the visitors slipped to 175-5.

However, Michael Richardson and wicketkeeper-batsman Stuart Poynter

accelerated the score for Durham as the pair combined for a record-breaking

278-run partnership that saw both batsmen reach centuries.

Olivier returned to get the breakthrough as Poynter eventually fell for 170,

before Palladino claimed his 300th wicket in all formats for Derbyshire shortly

after as Durham were 520 all out, leading by 93 runs.

Mark Wood got Durham off to a good start, as he removed the top three

batsmen to reduce the hosts to 97-3.

Godleman (25), Critchley (40) and Daryn Smit (34) all made starts as they

battled in tough conditions, before Wood returned to take career-best figures.

The England international finished with figures of 6-46, before the sides shook hands with the score at 279-9 to bring an end to the contest as Derbyshire took 10 points and Durham took 11 points from the fixture.

2nd innings

2nd innings

Duanne Olivier took 10 wickets but Derbyshire fell to a 95-run defeat

against Durham at Chester-le-Street.

The South African took 5-20 in the first innings, whilst Ben Slater also notched

100 runs in the match.

Derbyshire put the hosts into bat and their choice was soon justified as

Durham faltered to 26-4.

Olivier removed Cameron Steel (1) and Michael Jones (10), whilst Hardus

Viljoen also claimed a pair of wickets to put the visitors in the ascendancy.

Durham continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, as they slipped to 66-6

before Olivier returned to claim his five-wicket haul.

He had Ryan Davies (2) caught in the slips, before removing Nathan

Rimmington and Matt Salisbury without scoring to bowl the hosts out for 96.

Chris Rushworth bowled Billy Godleman (2) in the third over of Derbyshire’s

reply, before Slater and Wayne Madsen combined for a 58-run partnership to

steady the ship.

Slater (32) then fell before Rushworth claimed his second shortly after to

remove Madsen (36) and reduce Derbyshire to 93-4.

Matt Critchley (38) battled well, before Tony Palladino (32) and Alfie Gleadall

(27 not out) rallied to add valuable lower-order runs for Derbyshire and help the

visitors to a 109-run first innings lead.

Tom Latham stood firm in Durham’s reply and passed his half-century whilst

wickets fell around him, to take the score onto 121-3 before he was dismissed

for 68.

Gareth Harte accelerated the innings, as he combined with Rimmington (42)

for a century partnership before he was last man out for 114 to give Durham a

267-run lead.

Derbyshire faltered in reply, as opening bowlers Rushworth and Salisbury

combined well to take two wickets each and reduce the visitors to 35-4.

Slater (68) was the only batsman to pass 50 as he combined for a fifty

partnership with Callum Brodrick (19).

Brodrick then fell as the visitors collapsed, before there was a late resistance from Palladino (29 not out) and Olivier (18), but ultimately Derbyshire fell short of the 268 target as Rushworth returned to claim his five-wicket haul.

2nd innings

2nd innings

Alex Hughes hit an unbeaten century on day three as Derbyshire se-

cured a hard-fought draw against Glamorgan at Swansea.

The 27 year-old recorded his first century of the season, while Tony Palladi-

no took seven wickets in the match and clinched the draw for Derbyshire

with a spirited, near two-hour innings on the final day.

Palladino led the charge for the visitors as he removed three of the top four

batsmen to reduce Glamorgan to 52-5 early on.

Chris Cooke (69) steadied the ship for the hosts with his quick-fire half-

century, before Palladino struck again as Glamorgan recovered to 162-7.

Palladino then claimed his five-wicket haul, castling Prem Sisodiya for 38 as

Andrew Salter (72 not out) pressed on but eventually ran out of partners as

Glamorgan were 283 all out.

Openers Ben Slater and Harvey Hosein started well, with the pair’s partner-

ship worth 90 before the latter was out for 35.

Slater (52) passed his half-century before falling shortly after as Alex

Hughes came to the crease to accelerate the score.

He brought up his ton whilst Gary Wilson (44) and Matt Critchley (54 not

out) also made good contributions to give the visitors a 79-run lead.

Spinners Critchley and Hamidullah Qadri came into the attack early to take

advantage of the turning pitch, as the pair took three quick wickets to reduce

Glamorgan to 48-3.

However, Usman Khawaja (116) and Kiran Carlson (152) came together,

putting on a 289-run stand as both recorded centuries to elevate the hosts

into a good position on 341-5.

David Lloyd also hit 43 from 26 balls before Glamorgan declared on 403-7,

setting Derbyshire a target of 325 to win.

Batting conditions were becoming more difficult as wickets fell at regular

intervals, but Wayne Madsen showed his class to record his third half-

century of the season.

He then fell for 55, before Critchley soon followed to leave the score at 93-6.

Wilson (26) provided some resistance, and a gutsy display from Palladino (30 not out) alongside Duanne Olivier (6 not out) ensured Derbyshire took 11 points from the draw.

Derbyshire v Leicestershire Leicestershire won by 6 wickets The County Ground, Derby 25 - 27 June 2018

Toss: Toss uncontested; Leicestershire decided to field Umpires: B Taylor, S O’Shaughnessy Points: Leicestershire 21, Derbyshire 4

Matt Critchley hit an entertaining 86, but Derbyshire lost to

Leicestershire by six wickets at The County Ground.

Wayne Madsen also notched 80 on day one while Hardus Viljoen also

took five wickets in the historic first-ever day/night Specsavers County

Championship match in Derby.

The hosts were put into bat as Ben Slater reached 46 to take the score

to 93-1, before he fell as three wickets fell without score.

Madsen continued his fine form before Matt Critchley (31) and Hardus

Viljoen made quick contributions to accelerate Derbyshire onto 232-7.

Madsen then fell before Duanne Olivier and Ravi Rampaul were both

out without scoring as the hosts finished 245 all out.

Leicestershire reached 168-1 in reply after Paul Horton hit 88, but

collapsed to 196-5 as Tony Palladino picked up two wickets.

There were contributions from Lewis Hill (20) and Callum Parkinson

(34) but wickets fell at regular intervals as Palladino added another two

wickets to his tally to restrict the visitors to 297 all out.

Pakistan international Mohammad Abbas found movement off the pitch,

causing early problems for Derbyshire as they slipped to 17-3.

Alex Hughes (30) provided some resistance but Abbas claimed his

fourth to remove him and captain Billy Godleman (10) in quick

succession.

Critchley hit 12 boundaries in his 86, before Abbas returned to take the

final two wickets and record figures of 6-46.

Derbyshire were 184 all out, leaving Leicestershire needing 133 runs to

win.

The wicket of Sam Evans (2) in the third over gave Derbyshire some

early hope, but Horton (48) alongside Colin Ackermann (58) put

Leicestershire within reach of victory.

Olivier and Viljoen both claimed two wickets but it was only a consolation as Neil Dexter and wicketkeeper-batsman Hill hit the remaining runs to win by six wickets.

2nd innings

Matt Critchley took ten wickets in the match to inspire Derbyshire to a

39-run victory over Northamptonshire at Queen’s Park.

The all-rounder claimed career-best figures of 6-106 in the second innings,

while Wayne Madsen hit 116 on day three.

Derbyshire won the toss and batted first, but it was Northamptonshire who

seized the initiative early on to reduce the hosts to 53-4.

Harvey Hosein was in good touch alongside Matt Critchley (37) as they

accelerated the innings before the former fell for 58 to leave the score at

150-6.

Gary Wilson (66) also passed fifty and Dan Wheeldon (33 not out), on his

first-class debut, added valuable lower-order runs to elevate Derbyshire to a

total of 260 all out.

Openers Luke Procter (30) and Ben Duckett added 53 runs before Duckett

fell for 29 as Derbyshire took three wickets in quick succession.

However, Alex Wakely came to the crease to play a captain’s innings,

alongside Steven Crook (60) as the pair combined for a 120-run partnership.

Wakely eventually fell to Critchley for 106, before the spinner added to his

tally to claim figures of 4-88 as Northamptonshire took a 29-run lead.

Despite losing Billy Godleman (16) early on, the hosts pressed on to take the

score past 100 as Ben Slater (53) reached his sixth half-century of the

campaign.

Wayne Madsen (116) was in fine form as he accelerated the innings, whilst

there were also good contributions from Hosein (38) and Critchley (51) on a

turning pitch.

Hardus Viljoen (23) was last man out as Seekkuge Prasanna took his fourth

wicket, with Northamptonshire requiring 314 runs to win.

Derbyshire reduced the visitors to 48-2 but Procter and Wakely both hit 68

as Northamptonshire looked comfortable in their pursuit.

However, Matt Critchley got turn and bounce from the pitch as he claimed

his five-wicket haul and the visitors collapsed from 187-3 to 265-8.

Nathan Buck (10) was then victim to excessive spin as Critchley took his sixth to seal victory, with Derbyshire earning 21 points from the fixture.

Billy Godleman hit 122 on day two but Derbyshire fell to a 243-run

defeat against Sussex at Hove.

Wayne Madsen and Alex Hughes also made half-centuries, while Lockie

Ferguson took four wickets on his first-class debut for the county.

Derbyshire started well to reduce the hosts to 65-3, but Harry Finch made 82

before falling to Palladino.

Ben Brown and David Wiese then combined for a 142-run stand to put

Sussex in a strong position.

Brown reached 116 before Ferguson got the breakthrough, before then

claiming his third to remove Wiese for 93.

There were also some lower-order contributions as the hosts reached a total

of 440 all out.

Derbyshire’s openers looked comfortable in a 70-run stand, before Ben Slater

fell for 24.

However, Godleman continued alongside Madsen (72) to take the score to

200 before the latter was dismissed by Chris Jordan.

Alex Hughes then combined with the Derbyshire captain for an 85-run

partnership but Godleman was eventually bowled for 122.

Godleman’s departure lead to Derbyshire losing wickets at regular intervals

as the visitors collapsed from 285-3 to 389 all out, trailing by 51 runs.

Sussex openers Luke Wells and Phil Salt started strongly in reply as the pair

combined for a 191-run partnership, before Critchley got the vital

breakthrough to remove Wells for 78.

Salt (148) then fell as wickets tumbled at regular intervals, before Jofra

Archer hit a quick-fire 31 to take the score to 353-6 as Sussex declared

leaving Derbyshire a record 405 runs to win.

Openers Slater and Godleman negotiated the new ball as they battled hard to

reach the half-century partnership, but the latter fell soon after for 14.

Slater was then forced to retire hurt on 40 before Danny Briggs struck twice

to reduce Derbyshire to 89-5.

Alex Hughes (20) and debutant Anuj Dal (25) were both at the crease for over an hour with the visitors looking to secure a draw, but Ferguson (1) was last man out as Derbyshire fell 243 runs shy of the target.

Wayne Madsen hit 93 but Derbyshire lost by six wickets to Kent at

The County Ground.

Billy Godleman, Alex Hughes and Harvey Hosein all hit half-centuries,

while Tony Palladino also claimed his 13th five-wicket haul for the Club.

Hardus Viljoen got an early breakthrough to remove Sean Dickson (4) in

the third over, but Zak Crawley (96) and Joe Denly responded with a

170-run partnership for the visitors.

Denly (106) passed his century before Heino Kuhn (51), Grant Stewart

(85) and Matt Henry (81) recorded fifties to accelerate the score.

Palladino then took his fifth wicket with Adam Riley (23) last man out as

Kent posted 561 all out.

Tom Lace (40) started well on debut alongside Godleman as the pair

shared a 69-run opening stand.

Godleman reached 71 before being bowled, however, Madsen (93) and

Hughes (66) continued to push the hosts onto 301-4.

Sean Ervine made 26 but no other batsmen passed 20 as Derbyshire

collapsed to 400 all out, with Kent asking the hosts to bat again.

Openers Lace and Godleman recorded another half-century partnership

but the captain fell shortly after as wickets started to fall at regular

intervals.

Riley removed four of the top six batsmen to reduce Derbyshire to 137-

6, before Harvey Hosein came to the crease to record his second half-

century of the season.

Viljoen (23) and Palladino (30) both provided lower-order resistance, but

Hosein (66 not out) eventually ran out of partners as Denly came into

the attack to take the final four wickets.

Derbyshire then reduced the visitors to 20-1 in pursuit of the 110 target

as Lockie Ferguson removed Dickson for 13.

However, Crawley (34) and Kuhn (24) shared a 57-run partnership before Daniel Bell-Drummond (22 not out) and Sam Billings came to the crease to guide Kent to a six-wicket victory.

Glamorgan 2nd innings

Tony Palladino claimed his maiden ten-wicket match haul as Derby-

shire defeated Glamorgan by 169 runs at The County Ground.

Palladino recorded figures of 6-29 in the first innings after Billy Godleman

had scored 95 on day one.

Tim van der Gugten took two of the first three wickets to reduce Derby-

shire to 50-3 in difficult batting conditions under the lights.

However, Godleman battled well as he added important partnerships with

Gary Wilson (26) and Matt Critchley (26) to steady the ship.

Godleman eventually fell five short of his century before Tony Palladino

(16 not out) and Ravi Rampaul (18) added 27 for the last wicket as Der-

byshire posted 251 all out.

The visitors reached 83-2 in reply, before Palladino came into the attack

to take his first wicket, removing Kiran Carlson (23).

Palladino continued his fine form with the ball to reduce the visitors to 94-

7 before David Lloyd (25) attempted to stop the rot, but the experienced

Palladino removed him to claim his fifth wicket as Glamorgan closed their

innings on 121.

Derbyshire were reduced to 29-2 in reply, before Alex Hughes recorded

his third half-century of the campaign to take the score to 141-5.

Hughes then fell for 57 as the hosts slipped to 146-8, before Harvey Ho-

sein added 31 to push Derbyshire to a 171 total and set Glamorgan 302

runs to win.

After taking six in the first innings, Palladino opened the bowling to take

the first three wickets and reduce the visitors to 33-4.

Making his first appearance for Derbyshire, Martin Andersson (4-25) then

rallied to take the next four wickets in quick succession and put the hosts

in a commanding position.

Chris Cooke (67) played a spirited innings as he passed his half century but only delayed the inevitable as Palladino returned to take the last wicket of Michael Hogan (11) and guide Derbyshire to victory.

Derbyshire recorded their highest-ever run chase against Northampton-

shire as they scored 234-9 to win a dramatic game by one wicket at

Wantage Road.

Harvey Hosein recorded a spirited half-century to guide Derbyshire to victory,

after Wayne Madsen and Alex Hughes had also hit fifties earlier in the match.

Derbyshire chose to bowl first and the decision was soon justified as the

hosts faltered to 36-2 with Tony Palladino taking both wickets.

The hosts recovered to 137-4 as Ben Curran (51) reached his half-century

before Alex Hughes 4-57) came into the attack to take four wickets and leave

the score at 170-8.

However, Saif Zaib (57) then came to the crease to add valuable lower-order

runs and elevate Northamptonshire to 255 all out.

The visitors slipped to 12-2 in reply, but Tom Lace (38) and Hughes com-

bined for an 82-run partnership to steady the ship.

Hughes reached 75 before falling to Nathan Buck, as Brett Hutton rallied to

claim his five-wicket haul.

Harvey Hosein (30) and Tony Palladino (26) provided some resistance, but

Derbyshire were bowled out for 222, trailing by 33 runs.

Ravi Rampaul struck early to remove Curran (11), but Ricardo Vasconcelos

hit 62 as he recorded half-century partnerships with Luke Procter (21) and

Richard Levi (46) to accelerate the score to 155-3.

Matt Critchley then got the breakthrough to remove Vasconcelos, before

Hardus Viljoen came into the attack to take four wickets in quick succession.

Northamptonshire slipped to 190-8 before Palladino returned to take the final

two wickets and restrict the hosts to 199 all out.

Billy Godleman was bowled without scoring in the second over, but Lace and

Madsen put on a 94-run stand to put Derbyshire in a good position in pursuit

of the 233 target.

Madsen made 62 but wickets fell at regular intervals as the visitors slipped to

158-6.

However, Harvey Hosein was in fine form as he battled his way to 54 not out as wickets tumbled around him, before Rampaul hitting the winning runs to inspire Derbyshire to a nail-biting victory.

Billy Godleman and Matt Critchley both hit centuries but

Derbyshire lost by 117 runs against Middlesex at Lord’s.

Godleman carried his bat, scoring 105 in the second innings while

Critchley also took six wickets in the match.

The hosts started well as they reached 166-3, before Sam Robson and

Max Holden accelerated the score with a 132-run partnership.

Robson (134) eventually fell after passing his century, as Palladino

struck twice in consecutive balls to remove him and then Robbie White

without scoring.

Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals before Holden (119 not out)

recorded his ton alongside Tim Murtagh (39) in a 66-run final wicket

partnership as Middlesex posted 423 all out.

Derbyshire struggled in reply as they slipped to 62-4, before Critchley

came to the crease to steady the ship.

The all-rounder struck 14 boundaries before he was dismissed by Harris

for 105 to leave the score at 243-7.

Harris then claimed two more to take his tally to four, but Hardus Viljoen

(31 not out) and Lockie Ferguson (16) added valuable lower-order runs

to take Derbyshire to a total of 295.

Openers Nick Gubbins (19) and Robson recorded another half-century

partnership as the hosts reached 126-3 before the latter eventually was

run out by Critchley for 73.

Critchley then took four wickets in quick succession as Middlesex strug-

gled before declaring on 199-7, setting Derbyshire a target of 328 runs.

Godleman was in fine form in the second innings as he passed fifty but

he struggled to find a partner as Derbyshire reached 108-3 at Lunch.

Gary Wilson (22) and Godleman combined for a half-century partnership

but the former was castled by Harris shortly after.

The Derbyshire captain continued battling to reach his century, but he eventually ran out of partners as Derbyshire were bowled out for 210.

Luis Reece recorded career best figures of 7-20, but Derbyshire

lost by two wickets against Gloucestershire at The County Ground.

The all-rounder hit 59 on his return from injury, while Alex Hughes also recorded an unbeaten half-century in the second innings.

Reece opened the batting with Billy Godleman as the pair looked comfortable in reaching 39-0 before the captain was bowled by Craig Miles for eight.

He then passed his half-century before Miles returned to dismiss him as Tom Lace (6) also fell shortly after.

Alex Hughes (22) and Matt Critchley (26) both made starts but couldn’t convert them into a big score as Derbyshire struggled with Miles picking up his fourth.

Miles (5-50) then claimed his five-wicket haul to remove Anuj Dal (12) as the hosts were all out for 184.

Tony Palladino got the early breakthrough to take his 50th wicket of the season, before Reece took the next four wickets in quick succession to reduce Gloucestershire to 100-5.

The visitors struggled as Reece continued his fine form to tear through the batting line-up, taking his tally to seven wickets as Gloucestershire were all out for 163.

However, Gloucestershire responded to reduce Derbyshire to 32-3 early on, as Ryan Higgins picked up two wickets.

Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, but Hughes was resilient in tough batting conditions to help the hosts recover to 114-6.

Hughes (55 not out) then passed his half-century before eventually running out of partners as Derbyshire were 157 all out, setting the visitors a target of 179 to win.

Lockie Ferguson got the hosts off to the perfect start to remove Chris Dent with the first ball of the innings as the visitors slipped to 54-3 early on.

Benny Howell then hit a quick-fire 58 to accelerate the score, whilst there were also contributions from Ben Charlesworth (23) and Jack Taylor (16) as Gloucestershire edged closer to victory.

Ferguson returned to remove Taylor and Higgins (5) in quick succession, but Miles came to the crease to strike the winning runs as Derbyshire lost by two wickets.
