Mobility project ‘Integration, Enrichment & Enterprise 2’ (2013-15) to Denmark, Finland, Germany and Estonia – 200,000 EURO

DENMARK 07.10.2013 - 09.11.2013

The Engine Shed apprentices George Evans and Jordan Green spent five weeks at the Danish Meat Trade College in Roskilde

By working at the school’s kitchens, bakeries and front of house, they had an opportunity to enhance their vocational skills and practice recipes that are very different to those in the UK

The programme included cultural visits to Copenhagen, Tivoli Amusement Park and Roskilde Cathedral. In addition, participants were hosted by a Danish family at their home for a traditional Danish meal

At the end of the five weeks, students prepared a lavish three course meal for 30 guests and completed their placement evaluation

In 2013, Derby College arranged placements for four Osnabrück Technical College apprentices at the Bombardier in Derby, Tuthill Pumps in Ilkeston, Tarpey Harris in Denby and Evo Energy in Chilwell, Nottingham for six weeks (06.10 – 08.11.13) and hosted the Principal of Osnabrück Technical College Johannes Brockmeyer and the International Projects Coordinator Gunter Willmann to discuss further cooperation and student and staff exchanges between the two colleges.

GERMANY

FROM 16.03.2014 - 29.03.2014

10 ICT, Motor Vehicle and Engineering students and 2 staff will spend two weeks at Osnabrück, Germany

Students will work at the local large and SME companies which are selected by the Osnabrück Technical College

In addition to supervising participating learners, staff will also have an opportunity to work shadow their German colleagues, share good practice and discuss further cooperation

The planned programme will also include cultural visits to Osnabruck Old Town, Zoo and other local attractions. Derby students will be hosted by the Envoy of Derby City in Osnabrück, Mr Rob Bentley

In 2013, Derby College arranged 10 weeks work experience placements for two Lappia College adult Animal Care learners at the Animal Care unit at the Broomfield Hall and at the Derby Kennels.

College also hosted Ms Raija Paasimaa to discuss further cooperation and student and staff exchanges between the two colleges.

In February and March 2014 Derby College is again hosting Animal Care students as well as staff from the International Team from Lappia College.

FINLAND

FROM 30.03.2014 - 12.04.2014

8 Animal Care, Child Care, Public Services and Media and students and 2 staff will spend two weeks at Lappia, Finland

Students will work at the local large and SME companies which are selected by the Lappia College

In addition to supervising participating learners, staff will also have an opportunity to work shadow their Finnish colleagues, share good practice and plan for further partnership work

The planned programme will also include cultural visits to Rovaniemi Santa Park , Ice Hotel & Restaurant and other local attractions.

In February 2013, Derby College arranged 5 weeks work experience placements for eight Motor Vehicle, Business, Multimedia and Hairdressing learners from Tartu Kutsehariduskeskus. Students worked at The Garage, Sensi Salon and offices of Derby College and at the local companies.

College also hosted International Projects Coordinator Andrei Atkasov to discuss partnership work and student and staff exchanges between the two colleges.

In spring 2014 Derby College is again hosting a group of students from Tartu.

ESTONIA

FROM April to June 2014 (two groups)

A total of 31 Hair, Beauty & Media Make up, Catering, Construction, Floristry, Business, Retail, Media and Web page design learners and accompanying staff will spend two weeks each at Tartu Kutsehariduskeskus and Independent Beauty School.

Students will work at both schools’ commercial enterprises, local large and SME companies which are selected by host colleges.

In addition to supervising participating learners, staff will also have an opportunity to work shadow their Estonian colleagues, share good practice and plan for further partnership work

The planned programme will also include trips and tours and cultural visits to AHHAA Science Centre and other activities.

Partnership project ‘Greenmiles’ (2012-14) with partners from Belgium, Germany and Sweden – 25,000 EURO

The project aim is to research the following key areas and develop a theoretical European best practice sustainability model for the motor industry and transportation:

• Vehicle end of life and recycling• Electric and hybrid vehicles/technology as genuine alternative transport options• Environmentally friendly driving techniques• Future technologies supporting the reduction of vehicle emissions

Another aim is to raise the awareness of all participants in the possibility of joining the European labour market and working in a country other than their own and to create closer links between the students vocational qualification, their working life and social outlook

1st mobility was hosted by Provinciale Scholen voor Tuinbouw en Techniek Campus Boom, Belgium in November 2012

2nd mobility was hosted by Derby College, United Kingdom in February 2013

3rd mobility was hosted by Handwerkskammer für Ostthüringen in Gera, Germany in November 2013

4th mobility is due to be hosted by Bäckadalsgymnasiet, Jönköping, Sweden in February 2014

Partners are looking to extend the successful project to include new partners under the new Erasmus+ funding opportunity

Partnership project ‘ECO-Traditional Techniques for Construction and Landscape Sectors’ (2013-15) with partners

from Croatia, Finland, Greece and France – 20,000 EURO

The aim of the partnership project is to respond to the needs of the labour market by investigating, collecting, sharing and learning sustainable construction and landscape building techniques to improve employment opportunities for young people

An additional aim is to develop an awareness of the extent and diversity of opportunities in learning and work and become aware of employment opportunities in different European countries

1st partnership mobility was jointly hosted by Obrtničko učilište-ustanova za obrazovanje odraslih and Udruženje Obrtnika Grada, Zagreb, Croatia in November 2013. Partners discussed labour market needs with regards to skilled workforce and visited ‘Krapje – Architectural Heritage Village’ with traditional wooden architecture from 18th and 19 th centuries to observe the conservation work done at this remarkable cultural heritage site as well as recently renovated Croatian Concert Hall and French Pavilion (built 1936) and Art Pavilion (built 1890) which are undergoing renovation programme

2nd mobility will be hosted by Derby College, United Kingdom in February 2014 with demonstrations and workshops in traditional decorative interior techniques

3rd mobility will hosted by Etablissement Régional d'Enseignement Adapté ‘Les Terres Rouges’, St Barthelemy D'Anjou, France in October 2014 with demonstrations and workshops in traditional joinery and carpentry techniques

4th mobility will be hosted by Professional Lyceum of Vrodados, Chios Island, Greece in March 2015 with demonstrations and workshops in traditional stone, masonry and landscape techniques

5th mobility will be hosted by Espoon seudun koulutuskuntayhtymä Omnia, Finland in May 2015 with demonstrations and workshops in traditional landscape and exterior finishing techniques

Partnership project ‘Fashion with Traditional Aspects’ (2013-15) with partners from Austria, Cyprus and Spain – 20,000 EURO

The aim of the partnership project is to investigate, collect and share sustainable design and dressmaking techniques and materials such as recovery and recycling - making sustainable fashion out of locally sourced materials by using re-fashioning and repairing, using unwanted factory surpluses, offcuts or materials which would otherwise be thrown away

With this project, participants will further broaden their horizons and have a chance to see how students study and work in other countries, thus realising the possibility of increased success of young peoples’ transition to the labour market.

1st partnership mobility was hosted by Derby College in November 2013. In addition to re-fashioning workshops, provided by Trish and Ian Gardener, participants also had an opportunity to visit John Smedley Knitwear Factory in Matlock, Sir Richard Arkwright’s Cromford Mills, Nottingham Lace Market and sample traditional English food such as High Tea, Fish & Chips and Roast with Yorkshire Pudding

2nd mobility will be hosted by Städtische Höhere Lehranstalt und Fachschule für Mode, Austria in May 2014. Making sustainable fashion out of unwanted factory surpluses, offcuts or materials which would otherwise be thrown away

3rd mobility will hosted by Escuela de Arte y Superior de Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales de Valladolid, Spain in September 2014. Finding alternative retail opportunities for the fashion creations of the project.

4th mobility will be hosted by Larnaca Technical School Cyprus in March 2015. Making sustainable fashion out of fabrics composed of recycled fibres or products.

New Erasmus+ opportunities…

The programme has been allocated an overall budget of €14.7 billion for the seven year period from 2014 – 2020

77% of the budget is aimed for education and training activities

22 % this is for Vocational Education and Training field and 5% for Adult Education

The UK National Agency for Erasmus+ is a consortium led by the British Council with Ecorys UK as a key partner

Erasmus+ supports EU transparency and recognition tools in particular Europass, Youthpass, The European Qualifications Framework (EQF), the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), the European Credit System for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET), the European Quality Assurance Reference Framework (EQAVET), European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR), as well as EU wide networks in the field of education and training supporting these tools, in particular the National Academic Recognition Information Centre (NARIC)  A common purpose of these tools is to ensure that skills and qualifications can be more easily recognised, within and across national borders, in all subsystems of education and training as well as in the labour market. The tools should also ensure that education, training and youth policies further contribute to Europe 2020 objectives of competitiveness, employment and growth through more successful labour market integration and more mobility and to reach its education and employment headline targets

Learners and Staff travel to another EU country for:

This action is all about providing opportunities for individuals to improve their skills, enhance their employability and gain cultural awareness.

What’s possible?•Vocational traineeships for apprentices and students in initial vocational training•Youth Exchanges•European Voluntary Service activities•Professional development and training for staff in all sectors of education, training and youth

KEY ACTION 2 – Co-operation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices

This action is all about enabling organisations to work together in order to improve their provision for learners and share innovative practices.

Strategic Partnerships in the field of education, training and youth are collaborative projects allowing organisations to improve provision, tackle common issues and share innovative practice. Under Erasmus+ one organisation will lead the project and manage the activities and funding on behalf of the partnership. Different sizes of partnership are possible so that more organisations can get involved.

What’s possible?•Projects focusing on sectoral and cross-sectoral co-operation•Projects working with industry•Bilateral and multilateral partnerships, depending on the sector•Implementation of innovative activities•Flexibility in terms of activities and partners.

PRIORITIES within current framework:

•developing basic and transversal skills, such as entrepreneurship, digital skills and multilingualism in all fields of education and training, using innovative and student centred pedagogical approaches and developing appropriate assessment and certification methods, based on learning outcomes

•enhancing Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) uptake in teaching and learning, through the support of learning and access to open educational resources (OER) in the education and training fields, supporting ICT based teaching and assessment practices and by promoting the transparency of rights and obligations of users and producers of digitised content

•promoting stronger coherence between different EU and national transparency and recognition tools, so as to ensure that skills and qualifications can be easily recognised across borders

•supporting the adjustment of funding and investment in education and training to new needs and the development of improved funding approaches for skills development, in particular through partnerships and cost sharing; stimulating debates on efficient and sustainable investment in education and training at European and national level involving all the relevant stakeholders.

In addition,  as regards to Vocational Education and Training, priority will be given to projects developing:

•partnerships between education and employment (in particular companies and social partners)

•a short cycle post-secondary or tertiary qualifications in accordance with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) and focused on potential growth areas or areas with skills shortages as regards to Adult Education, priority will be given to projects contributing to:

•a reduction in the number of low skilled adults (re-skilling and up-skilling of adults

•increasing incentives for adult training by providing information on access to lifelong learning services, such as information on the validation of non-formal and informal learning and career guidance

•offering tailored learning opportunities to individual learners.
