The journey to build this superb, iconic 21st century building was complicated but highly rewarding. It was a journey I am so proud to have had which has proved to be an outstanding achievement by Derby City Council and all those involved. Derby Arena will put Derby on the map, providing a variety of cultural performances, superb sporting opportunities and encouraging tourism and business development to the city.

ABOUT THE ARENA
DID YOU KNOW?
Derby Arena has been built as part of Derby City Council’s Leisure Strategy. Clad in beautiful Olympic colours, the Arena is one of the UK’s first Olympic legacy projects to be carried out since London 2012. £28 million has been invested in Derby Arena, including funding from Sport England. This iconic building was designed by Faulkner Brown and built by Bowmer and Kirkland.
Derby Arena has a 5,000 audience capacity for events – 1,500 fixed spectator seats and the infield can be used
flexibly to seat 2,000 or allow standing room for
up to 3,500.
The futuristic building, clad in Olympic colours, has a footprint of 14,500m2 or 156,000ft2 and incorporates 1700 tonnes of steel – that’s the
equivalent of 200 London buses. If the steel was to be laid out end to end it would stretch to the length of a marathon.
The Arena’s state-of-the-art gym is powered by leading Wellness company, Technogym and includes the most advanced cardio consoles on the market – with great in-exercise entertainment, you can check
out Facebook, read your emails or watch YouTube whilst working out.
The Arena is one of only five indoor velodromes in the UK alongside the National Cycling Centre Manchester, Wales National Velodrome, Newport, Lee Valley VeloPark,
London and the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Glasgow.
The steepest part of the cycle track is 42 degrees –
the inspiration for the name of our café.
Top cyclists can reach up to 45 miles per hour on the track.
265,000 nails were hand-driven into the 250 metre track. If all the wood for the track, from the Russian spruce forests of Siberia, was put
end to end it would reach from Derby to Leicester.
EVENTSThe Arena is home to a programme of high-profile events from sports to comedy, rock & pop and even pantomime!
WHAT’S ON…
CAFÉ 42 With its name inspired by the steepest gradient of the cycle track, the Arena’s licensed café serves a delicious and nutritious range of hot and cold refreshments.
Breakfasts Cereals, smoothies & hot sandwiches | Sandwiches Sandwiches, paninis, flatbreads | Light bites Jacket potatoes, soups & salads | Main meals Burgers, hot dogs, daily specials | Snacks | Hot & cold drinks Costa Coffee.
